1. फिर क्या तू लिब्यातान अथवा मगर को बंसी के द्वारा खींच सकता है, वा डोरी से उसकी जीभ दबा सकता है?

1. Dost thou draw leviathan with an angle? And with a rope thou lettest down -- his tongue?

2. क्या तू उसकी नाक में नकेल लगा सकता वा उसका जबड़ा कील से बेध सकता है?

2. Dost thou put a reed in his nose? And with a thorn pierce his jaw?

3. क्या वह तुझ से बहुत गिड़गिड़ाहट करेगा, वा तुझ से मीठी बातें बोलेगा?

3. Doth he multiply unto thee supplications? Doth he speak unto thee tender things?

4. क्या वह तुझ से वाचा बान्ध्ेगा कि वह सदा तेरा दास रहे?

4. Doth he make a covenant with thee? Dost thou take him for a servant age-during?

5. क्या तू उस से ऐसे खेलेगा जैसे चिड़िया से, वा अपनी लड़कियों का जी बहलाने को उसे बान्ध रखेेगा?

5. Dost thou play with him as a bird? And dost thou bind him for thy damsels?

6. क्या मछुओं के दल उसे बिकाऊ माल समझेंगे? क्या वह उसे व्योपारियों में बांट देंगे?

6. (Feast upon him do companions, They divide him among the merchants!)

7. क्या तू उसका चमड़ा भाले से, वा उसका सिर मछुवे के तिरशूलों से भर सकता है?

7. Dost thou fill with barbed irons his skin? And with fish-spears his head?

8. तू उस पर अपना हाथ ही धरे, तो लड़ाई को कभी न भूलेगा, और भविष्य में कभी ऐसा न करेगा।

8. Place on him thy hand, Remember the battle -- do not add!

9. देख, उसे पकड़ने की आशा निष्फल रहती है; उसके देखने ही से मन कच्चा पड़ जाता है।

9. Lo, the hope of him is found a liar, Also at his appearance is not one cast down?

10. कोई ऐसा साहसी नहीं, जो उसको भड़काए; फिर ऐसा कौन है जो मेरे साम्हने ठहर सके?

10. None so fierce that he doth awake him, And who [is] he before Me stationeth himself?

11. किस ने पुझे पहिले दिया है, जिसका बदला मुझे देना पड़े ! देख, जो कुछ सारी धरती पर है सो मेरा है।

11. Who hath brought before Me and I repay? Under the whole heavens it [is] mine.

12. मैं उसके अंगों के विषय, और उसके बड़े बल और उसकी बनावट की शोभा के विषय चुप न रहूंगा।

12. I do not keep silent concerning his parts, And the matter of might, And the grace of his arrangement.

13. उसके ऊपर के पहिरावे को कौन उतार सकता है? उसके दांतों की दोनों पांतियों के अर्थात् जबड़ों के बीच कौन आएगा?

13. Who hath uncovered the face of his clothing? Within his double bridle who doth enter?

14. उसके मुख के दोनों किवाड़ कौन खोल सकता है? उसके दांत चारों ओर से डरावने हैं।

14. The doors of his face who hath opened? Round about his teeth [are] terrible.

15. उसके छिलकों की रेखाएं घमण्ड का कारण हैं; वे मानो कड़ी छाप से बन्द किए हुए हैं।

15. A pride -- strong ones of shields, Shut up -- a close seal.

16. वे एक दूसरे से ऐसे जुड़े हुए हैं, कि उन में कुछ वायु भी नहीं पैठ सकती।

16. One unto another they draw nigh, And air doth not enter between them.

17. वे आपस में मिले हुए और ऐसे सटे हुए हैं, कि अलग अलग नहीं हो सकते।

17. One unto another they adhere, They stick together and are not separated.

18. फिर उसके छींकने से उजियाला चमक उठता है, और उसकी आंखें भोर की पलकों के समान हैं।

18. His sneezings cause light to shine, And his eyes [are] as the eyelids of the dawn.

19. उसके मुंह से जलते हुए पलीते निकलते हैं, और आग की चिनगारियां छूटती हैं।

19. Out of his mouth do flames go, sparks of fire escape.

20. उसके नथ्ुानों से ऐसा धुआं निकलता है, जैसा खौलती हुई हांड़ी और जलते हुए नरकटों से।

20. Out of his nostrils goeth forth smoke, As a blown pot and reeds.

21. उसकी सांस से कोयले सुलगते, और उसके मुंह से आग की लौ निकलती है।

21. His breath setteth coals on fire, And a flame from his mouth goeth forth.

22. उसकी गर्दन में सामर्थ्य बनी रहती है, और उसके साम्हने डर नाचता रहता है।

22. In his neck lodge doth strength, And before him doth grief exult.

23. उसके मांस पर मांस चढ़ा हुआ है, और ऐसा आपस में सटा हुआ है जो हिल नहीं सकता।

23. The flakes of his flesh have adhered -- Firm upon him -- it is not moved.

24. उसका हृदय पत्थर सा दृढ़ है, वरन चक्की के निचले पाट के समान दृढ़ है।

24. His heart [is] firm as a stone, Yea, firm as the lower piece.

25. जब वह उठने लगता है, तब सामथ भी डर जाते हैं, और डर के मारे उनकी सुध बुध लोप हो जाती है।

25. From his rising are the mighty afraid, From breakings they keep themselves free.

26. यदि कोई उस पर तलवार चलाए, तो उस से कुछ न बन पड़ेगा; और न भाले और न बछ और न तीर से।

26. The sword of his overtaker standeth not, Spear -- dart -- and lance.

27. वह लोहे को पुआल सा, और पीतल को सड़ी लकड़ी सा जानता है।

27. He reckoneth iron as straw, brass as rotten wood.

28. वह तीर से भगाया नहीं जाता, गोफन के पत्थर उसके लिये भूसे से ठहरते हैं।

28. The son of the bow doth not cause him to flee, Turned by him into stubble are stones of the sling.

29. लाठियां भी भूसे के समान गिनी जाती हैं; वह बछ के चलने पर हंसता है।

29. As stubble have darts been reckoned, And he laugheth at the shaking of a javelin.

30. उसके निचले भाग पैने ठीकरे के समान हैं, कीच पर मानो वह हेंगा फेरता है।

30. Under him [are] sharp points of clay, He spreadeth gold on the mire.

31. वह गहिरे जल को हंडे की नाई मथ्ता हैे उसके कारण नील नदी मरहम की हांडी के समान होती है।

31. He causeth to boil as a pot the deep, The sea he maketh as a pot of ointment.

32. वह अपने पीछे चमकीली लीक छोड़ता जाता है। गहिरा जल मानो श्वेत दिखाई देने लगता है।

32. After him he causeth a path to shine, One thinketh the deep to be hoary.

33. धरती पर उसके तुल्य और कोई नहीं है, जो ऐसा निर्भय बनाया गया है।

33. There is not on the earth his like, That is made without terror.

34. जो कुछ ऊंचा है, उसे वह ताकता ही रहता है, वह सब घमणिडयों के ऊपर राजा है।

34. Every high thing he doth see, He [is] king over all sons of pride.
