1. फिर क्या तू लिब्यातान अथवा मगर को बंसी के द्वारा खींच सकता है, वा डोरी से उसकी जीभ दबा सकता है?

1. Whoever might vainly hope to do so need only see him to be overthrown.

2. क्या तू उसकी नाक में नकेल लगा सकता वा उसका जबड़ा कील से बेध सकता है?

4. I need hardly mention his limbs, his strength, and the fitness of his armor.

5. क्या तू उस से ऐसे खेलेगा जैसे चिड़िया से, वा अपनी लड़कियों का जी बहलाने को उसे बान्ध रखेेगा?

5. Who can strip off his outer garment, or penetrate his double corselet?

6. क्या मछुओं के दल उसे बिकाऊ माल समझेंगे? क्या वह उसे व्योपारियों में बांट देंगे?

6. Who can force open the doors of his mouth, close to his terrible teeth?

7. क्या तू उसका चमड़ा भाले से, वा उसका सिर मछुवे के तिरशूलों से भर सकता है?

7. Rows of scales are on his back, tightly sealed together;

8. तू उस पर अपना हाथ ही धरे, तो लड़ाई को कभी न भूलेगा, और भविष्य में कभी ऐसा न करेगा।

8. They are fitted each so close to the next that no space intervenes;

9. देख, उसे पकड़ने की आशा निष्फल रहती है; उसके देखने ही से मन कच्चा पड़ जाता है।

9. So joined one to another that they hold fast and cannot be parted.

10. कोई ऐसा साहसी नहीं, जो उसको भड़काए; फिर ऐसा कौन है जो मेरे साम्हने ठहर सके?

10. When he sneezes, light flashes forth; his eyes are like those of the dawn.

11. किस ने पुझे पहिले दिया है, जिसका बदला मुझे देना पड़े ! देख, जो कुछ सारी धरती पर है सो मेरा है।

11. Out of his mouth go forth firebrands; sparks of fire leap forth.

12. मैं उसके अंगों के विषय, और उसके बड़े बल और उसकी बनावट की शोभा के विषय चुप न रहूंगा।

13. उसके ऊपर के पहिरावे को कौन उतार सकता है? उसके दांतों की दोनों पांतियों के अर्थात् जबड़ों के बीच कौन आएगा?

14. उसके मुख के दोनों किवाड़ कौन खोल सकता है? उसके दांत चारों ओर से डरावने हैं।

15. उसके छिलकों की रेखाएं घमण्ड का कारण हैं; वे मानो कड़ी छाप से बन्द किए हुए हैं।

16. His heart is hard as stone; his flesh, as the lower millstone.

17. वे आपस में मिले हुए और ऐसे सटे हुए हैं, कि अलग अलग नहीं हो सकते।

17. When he rises up, the mighty are afraid; the waves of the sea fall back.

18. फिर उसके छींकने से उजियाला चमक उठता है, और उसकी आंखें भोर की पलकों के समान हैं।

18. Should the sword reach him, it will not avail; nor will the spear, nor the dart, nor the javelin.

19. उसके मुंह से जलते हुए पलीते निकलते हैं, और आग की चिनगारियां छूटती हैं।

19. He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood.

20. उसके नथ्ुानों से ऐसा धुआं निकलता है, जैसा खौलती हुई हांड़ी और जलते हुए नरकटों से।

20. The arrow will not put him to flight; slingstones used against him are but straws.

21. उसकी सांस से कोयले सुलगते, और उसके मुंह से आग की लौ निकलती है।

21. Clubs he esteems as splinters; he laughs at the crash of the spear.

22. उसकी गर्दन में सामर्थ्य बनी रहती है, और उसके साम्हने डर नाचता रहता है।

22. His belly is sharp as pottery fragments; he spreads like a threshing sledge upon the mire.

23. उसके मांस पर मांस चढ़ा हुआ है, और ऐसा आपस में सटा हुआ है जो हिल नहीं सकता।

23. He makes the depths boil like a pot; the sea he churns like perfume in a kettle.

24. उसका हृदय पत्थर सा दृढ़ है, वरन चक्की के निचले पाट के समान दृढ़ है।

24. Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had the hoary head of age.

25. जब वह उठने लगता है, तब सामथ भी डर जाते हैं, और डर के मारे उनकी सुध बुध लोप हो जाती है।

25. Upon the earth there is not his like, intrepid he was made.

26. यदि कोई उस पर तलवार चलाए, तो उस से कुछ न बन पड़ेगा; और न भाले और न बछ और न तीर से।

26. All, however lofty, fear him; he is king over all proud beasts.
