1. फिर क्या तू लिब्यातान अथवा मगर को बंसी के द्वारा खींच सकता है, वा डोरी से उसकी जीभ दबा सकता है?

1. 'Or can you pull in the sea beast, Leviathan, with a fly rod and stuff him in your creel?

2. क्या तू उसकी नाक में नकेल लगा सकता वा उसका जबड़ा कील से बेध सकता है?

2. Can you lasso him with a rope, or snag him with an anchor?

3. क्या वह तुझ से बहुत गिड़गिड़ाहट करेगा, वा तुझ से मीठी बातें बोलेगा?

3. Will he beg you over and over for mercy, or flatter you with flowery speech?

4. क्या वह तुझ से वाचा बान्ध्ेगा कि वह सदा तेरा दास रहे?

4. Will he apply for a job with you to run errands and serve you the rest of your life?

5. क्या तू उस से ऐसे खेलेगा जैसे चिड़िया से, वा अपनी लड़कियों का जी बहलाने को उसे बान्ध रखेेगा?

5. Will you play with him as if he were a pet goldfish? Will you make him the mascot of the neighborhood children?

6. क्या मछुओं के दल उसे बिकाऊ माल समझेंगे? क्या वह उसे व्योपारियों में बांट देंगे?

6. Will you put him on display in the market and have shoppers haggle over the price?

7. क्या तू उसका चमड़ा भाले से, वा उसका सिर मछुवे के तिरशूलों से भर सकता है?

7. Could you shoot him full of arrows like a pin cushion, or drive harpoons into his huge head?

8. तू उस पर अपना हाथ ही धरे, तो लड़ाई को कभी न भूलेगा, और भविष्य में कभी ऐसा न करेगा।

8. If you so much as lay a hand on him, you won't live to tell the story.

9. देख, उसे पकड़ने की आशा निष्फल रहती है; उसके देखने ही से मन कच्चा पड़ जाता है।

9. What hope would you have with such a creature? Why, one look at him would do you in!

10. कोई ऐसा साहसी नहीं, जो उसको भड़काए; फिर ऐसा कौन है जो मेरे साम्हने ठहर सके?

10. If you can't hold your own against his glowering visage, how, then, do you expect to stand up to me?

11. किस ने पुझे पहिले दिया है, जिसका बदला मुझे देना पड़े ! देख, जो कुछ सारी धरती पर है सो मेरा है।

11. Who could confront me and get by with it? I'm in charge of all this--I run this universe!

12. मैं उसके अंगों के विषय, और उसके बड़े बल और उसकी बनावट की शोभा के विषय चुप न रहूंगा।

12. 'But I've more to say about Leviathan, the sea beast, his enormous bulk, his beautiful shape.

13. उसके ऊपर के पहिरावे को कौन उतार सकता है? उसके दांतों की दोनों पांतियों के अर्थात् जबड़ों के बीच कौन आएगा?

13. Who would even dream of piercing that tough skin or putting those jaws into bit and bridle?

14. उसके मुख के दोनों किवाड़ कौन खोल सकता है? उसके दांत चारों ओर से डरावने हैं।

14. And who would dare knock at the door of his mouth filled with row upon row of fierce teeth?

15. उसके छिलकों की रेखाएं घमण्ड का कारण हैं; वे मानो कड़ी छाप से बन्द किए हुए हैं।

15. His pride is invincible; nothing can make a dent in that pride.

16. वे एक दूसरे से ऐसे जुड़े हुए हैं, कि उन में कुछ वायु भी नहीं पैठ सकती।

16. Nothing can get through that proud skin-- impervious to weapons and weather,

17. वे आपस में मिले हुए और ऐसे सटे हुए हैं, कि अलग अलग नहीं हो सकते।

17. The thickest and toughest of hides, impenetrable!

18. फिर उसके छींकने से उजियाला चमक उठता है, और उसकी आंखें भोर की पलकों के समान हैं।

18. 'He snorts and the world lights up with fire, he blinks and the dawn breaks.

19. उसके मुंह से जलते हुए पलीते निकलते हैं, और आग की चिनगारियां छूटती हैं।

19. Comets pour out of his mouth, fireworks arc and branch.

20. उसके नथ्ुानों से ऐसा धुआं निकलता है, जैसा खौलती हुई हांड़ी और जलते हुए नरकटों से।

20. Smoke erupts from his nostrils like steam from a boiling pot.

21. उसकी सांस से कोयले सुलगते, और उसके मुंह से आग की लौ निकलती है।

21. He blows and fires blaze; flames of fire stream from his mouth.

22. उसकी गर्दन में सामर्थ्य बनी रहती है, और उसके साम्हने डर नाचता रहता है।

22. All muscle he is--sheer and seamless muscle. To meet him is to dance with death.

23. उसके मांस पर मांस चढ़ा हुआ है, और ऐसा आपस में सटा हुआ है जो हिल नहीं सकता।

23. Sinewy and lithe, there's not a soft spot in his entire body--

24. उसका हृदय पत्थर सा दृढ़ है, वरन चक्की के निचले पाट के समान दृढ़ है।

24. As tough inside as out, rock-hard, invulnerable.

25. जब वह उठने लगता है, तब सामथ भी डर जाते हैं, और डर के मारे उनकी सुध बुध लोप हो जाती है।

25. Even angels run for cover when he surfaces, cowering before his tail-thrashing turbulence.

26. यदि कोई उस पर तलवार चलाए, तो उस से कुछ न बन पड़ेगा; और न भाले और न बछ और न तीर से।

26. Javelins bounce harmlessly off his hide, harpoons ricochet wildly.

27. वह लोहे को पुआल सा, और पीतल को सड़ी लकड़ी सा जानता है।

27. Iron bars are so much straw to him, bronze weapons beneath notice.

28. वह तीर से भगाया नहीं जाता, गोफन के पत्थर उसके लिये भूसे से ठहरते हैं।

28. Arrows don't even make him blink; bullets make no more impression than raindrops.

29. लाठियां भी भूसे के समान गिनी जाती हैं; वह बछ के चलने पर हंसता है।

29. A battle ax is nothing but a splinter of kindling; he treats a brandished harpoon as a joke.

30. उसके निचले भाग पैने ठीकरे के समान हैं, कीच पर मानो वह हेंगा फेरता है।

30. His belly is armor-plated, inexorable-- unstoppable as a barge.

31. वह गहिरे जल को हंडे की नाई मथ्ता हैे उसके कारण नील नदी मरहम की हांडी के समान होती है।

31. He roils deep ocean the way you'd boil water, he whips the sea like you'd whip an egg into batter.

32. वह अपने पीछे चमकीली लीक छोड़ता जाता है। गहिरा जल मानो श्वेत दिखाई देने लगता है।

32. With a luminous trail stretching out behind him, you might think Ocean had grown a gray beard!

33. धरती पर उसके तुल्य और कोई नहीं है, जो ऐसा निर्भय बनाया गया है।

33. There's nothing on this earth quite like him, not an ounce of fear in that creature!

34. जो कुछ ऊंचा है, उसे वह ताकता ही रहता है, वह सब घमणिडयों के ऊपर राजा है।

34. He surveys all the high and mighty-- king of the ocean, king of the deep!'
