1. फिर क्या तू लिब्यातान अथवा मगर को बंसी के द्वारा खींच सकता है, वा डोरी से उसकी जीभ दबा सकता है?

1. 'Can you pull in Leviathan with a hook, and tie down its tongue with a rope?

2. क्या तू उसकी नाक में नकेल लगा सकता वा उसका जबड़ा कील से बेध सकता है?

2. Can you put a cord through its nose, or pierce its jaw with a hook?

3. क्या वह तुझ से बहुत गिड़गिड़ाहट करेगा, वा तुझ से मीठी बातें बोलेगा?

3. Will it make numerous supplications to you, will it speak to you with tender words?

4. क्या वह तुझ से वाचा बान्ध्ेगा कि वह सदा तेरा दास रहे?

4. Will it make a pact with you, so you could take it as your slave for life?

5. क्या तू उस से ऐसे खेलेगा जैसे चिड़िया से, वा अपनी लड़कियों का जी बहलाने को उसे बान्ध रखेेगा?

5. Can you play with it, like a bird, or tie it on a leash for your girls?

6. क्या मछुओं के दल उसे बिकाऊ माल समझेंगे? क्या वह उसे व्योपारियों में बांट देंगे?

6. Will partners bargain for it? Will they divide it up among the merchants?

7. क्या तू उसका चमड़ा भाले से, वा उसका सिर मछुवे के तिरशूलों से भर सकता है?

7. Can you fill its hide with harpoons or its head with fishing spears?

8. तू उस पर अपना हाथ ही धरे, तो लड़ाई को कभी न भूलेगा, और भविष्य में कभी ऐसा न करेगा।

8. If you lay your hand on it, you will remember the fight, and you will never do it again!

9. देख, उसे पकड़ने की आशा निष्फल रहती है; उसके देखने ही से मन कच्चा पड़ जाता है।

9. See, his expectation is wrong, he is laid low even at the sight of it.

10. कोई ऐसा साहसी नहीं, जो उसको भड़काए; फिर ऐसा कौन है जो मेरे साम्हने ठहर सके?

10. Is it not fierce when it is awakened? Who is he, then, who can stand before it?

11. किस ने पुझे पहिले दिया है, जिसका बदला मुझे देना पड़े ! देख, जो कुछ सारी धरती पर है सो मेरा है।

11. (Who has confronted me that I should repay? Everything under heaven belongs to me!)

12. मैं उसके अंगों के विषय, और उसके बड़े बल और उसकी बनावट की शोभा के विषय चुप न रहूंगा।

12. I will not keep silent about its limbs, and the extent of its might, and the grace of its arrangement.

13. उसके ऊपर के पहिरावे को कौन उतार सकता है? उसके दांतों की दोनों पांतियों के अर्थात् जबड़ों के बीच कौन आएगा?

13. Who can uncover its outer covering? Who can penetrate to the inside of its armor?

14. उसके मुख के दोनों किवाड़ कौन खोल सकता है? उसके दांत चारों ओर से डरावने हैं।

14. Who can open the doors of its mouth? Its teeth all around are fearsome.

15. उसके छिलकों की रेखाएं घमण्ड का कारण हैं; वे मानो कड़ी छाप से बन्द किए हुए हैं।

15. Its back has rows of shields, shut up closely together as with a seal;

16. वे एक दूसरे से ऐसे जुड़े हुए हैं, कि उन में कुछ वायु भी नहीं पैठ सकती।

16. each one is so close to the next that no air can come between them.

17. वे आपस में मिले हुए और ऐसे सटे हुए हैं, कि अलग अलग नहीं हो सकते।

17. They lock tightly together, one to the next; they cling together and cannot be separated.

18. फिर उसके छींकने से उजियाला चमक उठता है, और उसकी आंखें भोर की पलकों के समान हैं।

18. Its snorting throws out flashes of light; its eyes are like the red glow of dawn.

19. उसके मुंह से जलते हुए पलीते निकलते हैं, और आग की चिनगारियां छूटती हैं।

19. Out of its mouth go flames, sparks of fire shoot forth!

20. उसके नथ्ुानों से ऐसा धुआं निकलता है, जैसा खौलती हुई हांड़ी और जलते हुए नरकटों से।

20. Smoke streams from its nostrils as from a boiling pot over burning rushes.

21. उसकी सांस से कोयले सुलगते, और उसके मुंह से आग की लौ निकलती है।

21. Its breath sets coals ablaze and a flame shoots from its mouth.

22. उसकी गर्दन में सामर्थ्य बनी रहती है, और उसके साम्हने डर नाचता रहता है।

22. Strength lodges in its neck, and despair runs before it.

23. उसके मांस पर मांस चढ़ा हुआ है, और ऐसा आपस में सटा हुआ है जो हिल नहीं सकता।

23. The folds of its flesh are tightly joined; they are firm on it, immovable.

24. उसका हृदय पत्थर सा दृढ़ है, वरन चक्की के निचले पाट के समान दृढ़ है।

24. Its heart is hard as rock, hard as a lower millstone.

25. जब वह उठने लगता है, तब सामथ भी डर जाते हैं, और डर के मारे उनकी सुध बुध लोप हो जाती है।

25. When it rises up, the mighty are terrified, at its thrashing about they withdraw.

26. यदि कोई उस पर तलवार चलाए, तो उस से कुछ न बन पड़ेगा; और न भाले और न बछ और न तीर से।

26. Whoever strikes it with a sword will have no effect, nor with the spear, arrow, or dart.

27. वह लोहे को पुआल सा, और पीतल को सड़ी लकड़ी सा जानता है।

27. It regards iron as straw and bronze as rotten wood.

28. वह तीर से भगाया नहीं जाता, गोफन के पत्थर उसके लिये भूसे से ठहरते हैं।

28. Arrows do not make it flee; slingstones become like chaff to it.

29. लाठियां भी भूसे के समान गिनी जाती हैं; वह बछ के चलने पर हंसता है।

29. A club is counted as a piece of straw; it laughs at the rattling of the lance.

30. उसके निचले भाग पैने ठीकरे के समान हैं, कीच पर मानो वह हेंगा फेरता है।

30. Its underparts are the sharp points of potsherds, it leaves its mark in the mud like a threshing sledge.

31. वह गहिरे जल को हंडे की नाई मथ्ता हैे उसके कारण नील नदी मरहम की हांडी के समान होती है।

31. It makes the deep boil like a cauldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment,

32. वह अपने पीछे चमकीली लीक छोड़ता जाता है। गहिरा जल मानो श्वेत दिखाई देने लगता है।

32. It leaves a glistening wake behind it; one would think the deep had a head of white hair.

33. धरती पर उसके तुल्य और कोई नहीं है, जो ऐसा निर्भय बनाया गया है।

33. The likes of it is not on earth, a creature without fear.

34. जो कुछ ऊंचा है, उसे वह ताकता ही रहता है, वह सब घमणिडयों के ऊपर राजा है।

34. It looks on every haughty being; it is king over all that are proud.'
