1. श्रेष्ठगीत जो सुलैमान का है।।

1. The song of songs, which is Solomon's.

2. वह अपने मुंह के चुम्बनों से मुझे चूमे! क्योंकि तेरा प्रेम दाखमधु से उत्तम है,

2. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, for thy love is better than wine.

3. तेरे भांति भांति के इत्रों का सुगन्ध उत्तम है, तेरा नाम उंडेले हुए इत्रा के तुल्य है; इसीलिये कुमारियां तुझ से प्रेम रखती हैं

3. Because of the savor of thy good ointments, thy name is as ointment poured forth; therefore do the virgins love thee.

4. मुझे खींच ले; हम तेरे पीछे दौड़ेंगे राजा मुझे अपने महल में ले आया है। हम तुझ में मगन और आनन्दित होंगे; हम दाखमधु से अधिक तेरे प्रेम की चर्चा करेंगे; वे ठीक ही तुझ से प्रेम रखती हैं।।

4. Draw me, we will run after thee. The king hath brought me into his chambers.' 'We will be glad and rejoice in thee; we will remember thy love more than wine; the upright love thee.'

5. हे यरूशलेम की पुत्रियों, मैं काली तो हूं परन्तु सुन्दर हूं, केदार के तम्बुओं के और सुलैमान के पर्दों के तुल्य हूं।

5. I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

6. मुझे इसलिये न घूर कि मैं साँवली हूं, क्योंकि मैं धूप से झुलस गई। मेरी माता के पुत्रा मुझ से अप्रसन्न थे, उन्हों ने मुझ को दाख की बारियों की रखवालिन बनाया; परन्तु मैं ने अपनी निज दाख की बारी की रखवाली नहीं की!

6. Look not upon me because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me. My mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

7. हे मेरे प्राणप्रिय मुझे बता, तू अपनी भेड़- बकरियां कहां चराता है, दोपहर को तू उन्हें कहां बैठाता है; मैं क्यों तेरे संगियों की भेड़- बकरियों के पास घूंघट काढ़े हुए भटकती फिरूं?

7. Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon; for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?'

8. हे स्त्रियों में सुन्दरी, यदि तू यह न जानती हो तो भेड़- बकरियों के खुरों के चिन्हों पर चल और चरावाहों के तम्बुओं के पास अपनी बकरियों के बच्चों को चरा।।

8. If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

9. हे मेरी प्रिय मैं ने तेरी तुलना फिरौन के रथों में जुती हुई घोड़ी से की है।

9. I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.

10. तेरे गाल केशों के लटों के बीच क्या ही सुन्दर हैं, और तेरा कण्ठ हीरों की लड़ों के बीच।

10. Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.'

11. हम तेरे लिये चान्दी के फूलदार सोने के आभूषण बनाएंगे।

11. We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.'

12. जब राजा अपनी मेज के पास बैठा था मेरी जटामासी की सुगन्ध फैल रही थी।

12. While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

13. मेरा प्रेमी मेरे लिये लोबान की थैली के समान है जो मेरी छातियों के बीच में पड़ी रहती है।।

13. A bundle of myrrh is my wellbeloved unto me; he shall lie all night between my breasts.

14. मेरा प्रमी मेरे लिये मेंहदी के फूलों के गुच्छे के समान है, जो एनगदी की दाख की बारियों में होता है।।

14. My beloved is unto me as a cluster of henna in the vineyards of Engedi.'

15. तू सुन्दरी है, हे मेरी प्रिय, तू सुन्दरी है; तेरी आंखें कबूतरी की सी हैं।

15. Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.'

16. हे मेरी प्रिय तू सुन्दर और मनभावनी है। और हमारा बिछौना भी हरा है;

16. Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant. Also our bed is green.

17. हमारे घर के बरगे देवदार हैं और हमारी छत की कड़ियां सनौवर हैं।।

17. The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.
