1. हाय उन पर जो सिरयोन में सुख से रहते, और उन पर जो सामरिया के पर्वत पर निश्चिन्त रहते हैं, वे जो श्रेष्ठ जाति में प्रसिद्ध हैं, जिन के पास इस्राएल का घराना आता है!

1. Woe [to] those secure in Zion, And those confident in the mount of Samaria, The marked of the chief of the nations, And come to them have the house of Israel.

2. कलने नगर को जाकर देखो, और वहां से हमात नाम बड़े नगर को जाओ; फिर पलिश्तियों के गत नगर को जाओ। क्या वे इन राज्यों से उत्तम हैं? क्या उनका देश तुम्हारे देश से कुछ बड़ा है?

2. Pass ye over [to] Calneh and see, And go thence [to] Hamath the great, And go down [to] Gath of the Philistines, Are [they] better than these kingdoms? Greater [is] their border than your border?

3. तुम बुरे दिन को दूर कर देते, और उपद्रव की गद्दी को निकट ले आते हो।।

3. Who are putting away the day of evil, And ye bring nigh the seat of violence,

4. तुम हाथी दांत के पलंगों पर लेटते, और अपने अपने बिछौने पर पांव फैलाए सोते हो, और भेड़- बकरियों में से मेम्ने और गौशालाओं में से बछड़े खाते हो।

4. Who are lying down on beds of ivory, And are spread out on their couches, And are eating lambs from the flock, And calves from the midst of the stall,

5. तुम सारंगी के साथ गीत गाते, और दाऊद की नाईं भांति भांति के बाजे बुद्धि से निकालते हो;

5. Who are taking part according to the psaltery, Like David they invented for themselves instruments of music;

6. और कटोरों में से दाखमधु पीते, और उत्तम उत्तम तेल लगाते हो, परन्तु यूसुफ पर आनेवाली विपत्ति का हाल सुनकर शोकित नहीं होते।

6. Who are drinking with bowls of wine, And [with] chief perfumes anoint [themselves], And have not been pained for the breach of Joseph.

7. इस कारण वे अब बंधुआई में पहिले जाएंगे, और जो पांव फैलाए सोते थे, उनकी धूम जाती रहेगी।।

7. Therefore now they remove at the head of the captives, And turned aside is the mourning-feast of stretched-out ones.

8. सेनाओं के परमेश्वर यहोवा की यह वाणी है, (परमेश्वर यहोवा ने अपनी ही शपथ खाकर कहा है): जिस पर याकूब घमण्ड करता है, उस से मैं घृणा, और उसे राजभवनों से बैर रखता हूं; और मैं इस नगर को उस सब समेत जो उस में हैं, शत्रु के वश में कर दूंगा।।

8. Sworn hath the Lord Jehovah by Himself, An affirmation of Jehovah, God of Hosts: I am abominating the excellency of Jacob, And his high places I have hated, And I have delivered up the city and its fulness.

9. और यदि किसी घर में दस पुरूष बचे रहें, तौभी वे मर जाएंगे।

9. And if there are left ten persons in one house, It hath come to pass -- that they have died.

10. और जब किसी का चचा, जो उसका जलानेवाला हो, उसकी हडि्डयों को घर के निकालने के लिये उठाएगा, और जो घर के कोने में हो उस से कहेगा, क्या तेरे पास कोई और है? तब वह कहेगा, कोई नहीं; तब वह कहेगा, चुप रहे! हमें यहोवा का नाम नहीं लेना चाहिए।।

10. And lifted him up hath his loved one, even his burner, To bring forth the bones from the house, And he said to him who [is] in the sides of the house, 'Is there yet with thee?' And he said, 'None,' then he said, 'Hush! Save to make mention of the name of Jehovah.'

11. क्योंकि यहोवा की आज्ञा से बड़े घर में छेछ, और छोटे घर में दरार होगी।

11. For lo, Jehovah is commanding, And He hath smitten the great house [with] breaches, And the little house [with] clefts.

12. क्या घोड़े चट्टान पर दौड़ें? क्या कोई ऐसे स्थान में बैलों से जोतें जहां तुम लोगों ने न्याय को विष से, और धर्म के फल को कड़वे फल से बदल डाला है?

12. Do horses run on a rock? Doth one plough [it] with oxen? For ye have turned to gall judgment, And the fruit of righteousness to wormwood.

13. तुम ऐसी वस्तु के कारण आनन्द करते हो जो व्यर्थ है; और कहते हो, क्या हम अपने ही यत्न से सामर्थी नहीं हो गए?

13. O ye who are rejoicing at nothing, Who are saying, 'Have we not by our strength taken to ourselves horns?'

14. इस कारण सेनाओं के परमेश्वर यहोवा की यह वाणी है, हे इस्राएल के घराने, देख, मैं तुम्हारे विरूद्ध एक ऐसी जाति खड़ी करूंगा, जो हमात की घाटी से लेकर अराबा की नदी तक तुमको संकट में डालेगी।।

14. Surely, lo, I am raising against you a nation, O house of Israel, An affirmation of Jehovah, God of Hosts, And they have oppressed you from the coming in to Hamath, Unto the stream of the desert.
