1. यहूदा के राजा यहोशापात के अठारहवें वर्ष में अहाब का पुत्रा यहोराम शिमरोन में राज्य करने लगा, और बारह पर्ष तक राज्य करता रहा।

1. Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

2. उस ने वह किया जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में बुरा है नौभी उस ने अपने माता- पिता के बराबर नहीं किया वरन अपने पिता की बनवाई हुई बाल की लाठ को दूर किया।

2. And he did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.

3. तौभी वह नबात के पुत्रा यारोबाम के ऐसे पापों में जैसे उस ने इस्राएल से भी कराए लिपटा रहा और उन से न फिरा।

3. Nevertheless he stuck to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart therefrom.

4. मोआब का राजा मेशा बहुत सी भेड़- बकरियां रखता था, और इस्राएल के राजा को एक लाख बच्चे और एक लाख मेढ़ों का ऊन कर की रीति से दिया करता था।

4. Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of a hundred thousand lambs, and of a hundred thousand rams.

5. जब अहाब मर गया, तब मोआब के राजा ने इस्राएल के राजा से बलवा किया।

5. But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6. उस समय राजा यहोराम ने शोमरोन से निकलकर सारे इस्राएल की गिनती ली।

6. And King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.

7. और उस ने जाकर यहूदा के राजा यहोशापात के पास यों कहला भेजा, कि मोआब के राजा ने मुझ से बलवा किया है, क्या तू मेरे संग मोआब से लड़ने को चलेगा? उस ने कहा, हां मैं चलूंगा, जैसा तू वैसा मैं, जैसी तेरी प्रजा वैसी मेरी प्रजा, और जैसे तेरे धोड़े वैसे मेरे भी घोड़े हैं।

7. And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me: will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

8. फिर उस ने पूछा, हम किस मार्ग से जाएं? उस ने उत्तर दिया, एदोम के जंगल से होकर।

8. And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way of the wilderness of Edom.

9. तब इस्राएल का राजा, और यहूदा का राजा, और एदोम का राजा चले और जब सात दिन तक धूमकर चल चुके, तब सेना और उसके पीछे पीछे चलनेवाले पशुओं के लिये कुछ पानी न मिला।

9. So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, nor for the beasts that followed them.

10. और इस्राएल के राजा ने कहा, हाय ! यहोवा ने इन तीन राजाओं को इसलिये इकट्ठा किया, कि उनको मोआब के हाथ में कर दे।

10. And the king of Israel said, Alas! For Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

11. परन्तु सहोशापात ने कहा, क्या यहां यहोवा का कोई नबी नहीं है, जिसके द्वारा हम यहोवा से पूछें़? इस्राएल के राजा के किसी कर्मचारी ने उत्तर देकर कहा, हां, शापात का पुत्रा एलीशा जो एलिरयाह के हाथों को धुलाया करता था वह तो यहां है।

11. But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him? And one of the king of Israel's slaves answered and said, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12. तब यहोशापात ने कहा, उसके पास यहोवा का वचन पहुंचा करता है। तब इस्राएल का राजा और यहोशापात और एदोम का राजा उसके पास गए।

12. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Yahweh is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13. तब एलीशा ने इस्राएल के राजा से कहा, मेरा तुझ से क्या काम है? अपने पिता के भविष्यद्वक्ताओं और अपनी माता के नबियों के पास जा। इस्राएल के राजा ने उस से कहा, ऐसा न कह, क्योंकि यहोवा ने इन तीनों राजाओं को इसलिये इकट्ठा किया, कि इनको मोआब के हाथ में कर दे।

13. And Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said to him, No; for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

14. एलीशा ने कहा, सेनाओं का यहोवा जिसके सम्मुख मैं उपस्थित रहा करता हूँ, उसके जीवन की शपथ यदि मैं यहूदा के राजा यहोशापात का आदर मान न करता, तो मैं न तो तेरी ओर मुह करता और न तुझ पर दृष्टि करता ।

14. And Elisha said, As Yahweh of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.

15. अब कोई बजवैरया मेरे पास ले आओ। जब बजवैरया बजाने लगा, तब यहोवा की शक्ति एलीशा पर इई।

15. But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Yahweh came upon him.

16. और उस ने कहा, इस नाले में तुम लोग इतना खोदो, कि इस में गड़हे ही गड़हे हो जाएं।

16. And he said, Thus says Yahweh, Make this valley full of trenches.

17. क्योंकि यहोवा यों कहता है, कि तुम्हारे साम्हने न तो वायु चलेगी, और न वर्षा होगी; तौभी यह नाला पानी से भर जाएगा; और अपते गाय बैलों और पशुओं समेत तुम पीने पाओगे।

17. For thus says Yahweh, You+ will not see wind, neither will you+ see rain; yet that valley will be filled with water, and you+ will drink, both you+ and your+ cattle and your+ beasts.

18. और इसको हलकी सी बात जानकर यहोवा मोआब को भी तुम्हारे हाथ में कर देगा।

18. And this is but a light thing in the sight of Yahweh: he will also deliver the Moabites into your+ hand.

19. तब तुम सब गढ़वाले और उत्तम नगरों को नाश करना, और सब अच्छे वृक्षों को काट डालना, और जल के सब खेतों को भर देना, और सब अच्छे खेतों में पत्थर फेंककर उन्हें बिगाड़ देना।

19. And you+ will strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and will fell every good tree, and stop all fountains of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

20. विहान को अन्नबलि चढ़ाने के समय एदोम की ओर से जल बह आया, और देश जल से भर गया।

20. And it came to pass in the morning, about the time of offering the oblation, that, look, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

21. यह सुनकर कि राजाओं ने हम से युठ्ठ करते के लिये चढ़ाई की है, जितने मोआबियों की अवस्था हथियार बान्धने योग्य थी, वे सब बुलाकर इकट्ठे किए गए, और सिवाने पर खड़े हुए।

21. Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.

22. बिहान को जब वे उठे उस समय सूर्य की किरणों उस जल पर ऐसी पड़ीं कि वह मोआबियों की परली ओर से लोहू सा लाल दिखाई पड़ा।

22. And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water across from them as red as blood:

23. तो वे कहने लगे वह तो लोहू होगा, निेसन्देह वे राजा एक दूसरे को मारकर नाश हो गए हैं, इसलिये अब हे मोआबियो लूट लेने को जाओ;

23. and they said, This is blood; the kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each man his fellow man: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

24. और जब वे इस्राएल की छावनी के पास आए ही थे, कि इस्राएली उठकर मोआबियों को मारने लगे और वे उनके साम्हने से भाग गए; और वे मोआब को मारते मारते उनके देश में पहुंच गए।

24. And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went there and struck the Moabites.

25. और उन्हों ने नगरों को ढा दिया, और सब अच्छे खेतों में एक एक पुरूष ने अपना अपना मत्थर डाल कर उन्हों भर दिया; और जल के सब सोतों को भर दिया; और सब अच्छे अच्छे वृक्षों को काट डाला, यहां तक कि कीर्हरेशेत के पत्थ्र तो रह गए, परन्तु उसको भी चारों ओर गोफन चलानेवालों ने जाकर मारा।

25. And they beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the fountains of water, and felled all the good trees, until they left [only] its stones in Kir-hareseth; nevertheless the slingers went about it, and struck it.

26. यह देखकर कि हम युठ्ठ में हार चले, मोआब के राजा ने सात सौ तलवार रखनेवाले पुरूष संग लेकर एदोम के राजा तक पांति चीरकर पहुंचने का यत्न किया परन्तु पहुंच न सका।

26. And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too intense for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew the sword, to break through to the king of Syria; but they could not.

27. तब उस ने अपने जेठे पुत्रा को जो उसके स्थान में राज्य करनेवाला था पकड़कर शहरपनाह पर होमबलि चढ़ाया। इस कारण इस्राएल पर बड़ा ही क़्रोध हुआ, सो वे उसे छोड़कर अपने देश को लौट गए।

27. Then he took his eldest son who should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt-offering on the wall. And there was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
