1. वहां संयोग से शेबा नाम एक बिन्यामीनी था, वह ओछा पुरूष बिक्री का पुत्रा था; वह नरसिंगा फूंककर कहने लगा, दाऊद में हमारा कुछ अंश नहीं, और न यिशै के पुत्रा में हमारा कोई भाग है; हे इस्राएलियो, अपने अपने डेरे को चले जाओ !

1. And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.

2. इसलिये सब इस्राएली पुरूष दाऊद के पीछे चलना छोड़कर बिक्री के पुत्रा शेबा के पीछे हो लिए; परन्तु सब यहूदी पुरूष यरदन से यरूशलेम तक अपने राजा के संग लगे रहे।

2. So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.

3. तब दाऊद यरूशलेम को अपने भवन में आया; और राजा ने उन दस रखेलियों को, जिन्हें वह भवन की चौकसी करने को छोड़ गया था, अलग एक घर में रखा, और उनका पालन पोषण करता रहा, परन्तु उन से सहवास न किया। इसलिये वे अपनी अपनी मृत्यु के दिन तक विधवापन की सी दशा में जीवित ही बन्द रही।

3. And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.

4. तब राजा ने अमासा से कहा, यहूदी पुरूषों को तीन दिन के भीतर मेरे पास बुला ला, और तू भी यहां उपस्थित रहना।

4. Then said the king to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.

5. तब अमासा यहूदियों को बुलाने गया; परन्तु उसके ठहराए हुए समय से अधिक रह गया।

5. So Amasa went to call {cf15i the men of} Judah together: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

6. तब दाऊद ने अबीशै से कहा, अब बिक्री का पुत्रा शेबा अबशालोम से भी हमारी अधिक हानि करेगा; इसलिये तू अपने प्रभु के लोगों को लेकर उसका पीछा कर, ऐसा न हो कि वह गढ़वाले नगर पाकर हमारी दृष्टि से छिप जाए।

6. And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lords servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape out of our sight.

7. तब योआब के जन, और करेती और पलेती लोग, और सब शूरवीर उसके पीछे हो लिए; और बिक्री के पुत्रा शेबा का पीछा़ करने को यरूशलेम से निकले।

7. And there went out after him Joabs men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

8. वे गिबोन में उस भारी पत्थर के पास पहुंचे ही थे, कि अमासा उन से आ मिला। योआब तो योठ्ठा का वस्त्रा फेटे से कसे हुए था, और उस फेटे में एक तलवार उसकी कमर पर अपनी म्यान में बन्धी हुई थी; और जब वह चला, तब वह निकलकर गिर पड़ी।

8. When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.

9. तो योआब ने अमासा से पूछा, हे मेरे भाई, क्या तू कुशल से है? तब योआब ने अपना दाहिना हाथ बढ़ाकर अमासा को चूमने के लिये उसकी दाढ़ी पकड़ी।

9. And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

10. परन्तु अमासा ने उस तलवार की कुछ चिन्ता न की जो याआब के हाथ में थी; और उस ने उसे अमासा के पेट में भोंक दी, जिस से उसकी अन्तड़ियां निकलकर धरती पर गिर पड़ी, और उस ने उसको दूसरी बार न मारा; और वह मर गया। तब योआब और उसका भाई अबीशै बिक्री के पुत्रा शेबा का पीछा करने को चले।

10. But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joabs hand: so he smote him therewith in the belly, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

11. और उसके पास याआब का एक जवान खड़ा होकर कहने लगा, जो कोई योआब के पक्ष और दाऊद की ओर का हो वह योआब के पीछे हो ले।

11. And there stood by him one of Joabs young men, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him follow Joab.

12. अमासा तो सड़क के मध्य अपने लोहू में लोट रहा था। तो जब उस मनुष्य ने देखा कि सब लोग खड़े हो गए हैं, तब अमासा को सड़क पर से मैदान में उठा ले गया, और जब देखा कि जितने उसके पास आते हैं वे खड़े हो जाते हैं, तब उस ने उसके ऊपर एक कपड़ा डाल दिया।

12. And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.

13. उसके सड़क पर से सरकाए जाने पर, सब लोग बिक्री के पुत्रा शेबा का पीछा़ करने को योआब के पीछे़ हो लिए।

13. When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

14. और वह सब इस्राएली गोत्रों में होकर आबेल और बेतमाका और बेरियों के देश तक पहुंचा; और वे भी इकट्ठे होकर उसके पीछे़ हो लिए।

14. And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.

15. तब उन्हों ने उसको बेतमाका के आबेल में घेर लिया; और नगर के साम्हने ऐसा दमदमा बान्धा कि वह शहरपनाह से सट गया; और योआब के संग के सब लोग शहरपनाह को गिराने के लिये धक्का देने लगे।

15. And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaacah, and they cast up a mount against the city, and it stood against the rampart: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

16. तब एक बुध्दिमान रूत्री ने नगर में से पुकारा, सुनो ! सुनो ! योआब से कहो, कि यहां आए, ताकि मैं उस से कुछ बातें करूं।

16. Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

17. जब योआब उसके निकट गया, तब स्त्री ने पूछा़, क्या तू योआब है? उस ने कहा, हां, मैं वही हूँ। फिर उस ने उस से कहा, अपनी दासी के वचन सुन। उस ने कहा, मैं तो सुन रहा हूँ।

17. And he came near unto her, and the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.

18. वह कहने लगी, प्राचीनकाल में तो लोग कहा करते थे, कि आबेल में पूछा़ जाए; और इस रीति झगड़े को निपटा देते थे।

18. Then she spake, saying, they were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask {cf15i counsel} at Abel: and so they ended {cf15i the matter}.

19. मैं तो मेलमिलापवाले और विश्वासयोग्य इस्राएलियों में से हूँ; परन्तु तू एक प्रधन नगर नाश करने का यत्न करता है; तू यहोवा के भाग को क्यों निगल जाएगा?

19. I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?

20. योआब ने उत्तर देकर कहा, यह मुझ से दूर हो, दूर, कि मैं निगल जाऊं वा नाश करूं !

20. And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

21. बात ऐसी नहीं है। शेबा नाम एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश का एक पुरूष जो बिक्री का पुत्रा है, उस ने दाऊद राजा के विरूद्ध हाथ उठााया है; तो तुम लोग केवल उसी को सौंप दो, तब मैं नगर को छो़ड़कर चला जाऊंगा। स्त्री ने योआब से कहा, उसका सिर शहरपनाह पर से तेरे पास फेंक दिया जाएगा।

21. The matter is not so: but a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.

22. तब स्त्री अपनी बुध्दिमानी से सब लोगों के पास गई। तब उन्हों ने बिक्री के पुत्रा शेबा का सिर काटकर योआब के पास फेंक दिया। तब योआब ने नरसिंगा फूंका, और सब लोग नगर के पास से अलग अलग होकर अपने अपने डेरे को गए। और योआब यरूशलेम को राजा के पास लौट गया।

22. Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

23. योआब तो समस्त इस्राएली सेना के ऊपर प्रधान रहा; और यहोयादा का मुत्रा बनायाह करेतियों और पलेतियों के ऊपर था;

23. Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:

24. और अदोराम बेगारों के ऊपर था; और अहीलूद का पुत्रा यहोशापात इतिहास का लेखक था;

24. and Adoram was over the tribute: and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder:

25. और शया मंत्री था; और सादोक और एब्यातार याजक थे;

25. and Sheva was scribe: and Zadok and Abiathar were priests:

26. और याईरी ईरा भी दाऊद का एक मंत्री था।

26. and Ira also the Jairite was priest unto David.
