1. और शमूएल मर गया; और समस्त इस्राएलियों ने इकट्ठे होकर उसके लिये छाती पीटी, और उसके घर ही में जो रामा में था उसको मिट्टी दी। तब दाऊद उठकर पारान जंगल को चला गया।।

1. And Samuel died; and all the Israelites assembled, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

2. माओन में एक पुरूष रहता था जिसका माल कर्मेल में था। और वह पुरूष बहुत बड़ा था, और उसके तीन हजार भेड़ें, और एक हजार बकरियों थीं; और वह अपनी भेड़ों का ऊन कतर रहा था।

2. And {there} was a man in Maon, whose possessions {were} in Carmel; and the man {was} very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

3. उस पुरूष का नाम नाबाल, और उसकी पत्नी का नाम अबीगैल था। स्त्री तो बुद्धिमान और रूपवती थी, परन्तु पुरूष कठोर, और बुरे बुरे काम करनेवाला था; वह तो कालेबवंशी था।

3. Now the name of the man {was} Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and {she was} a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man {was} churlish and evil in his doings; and he {was} of the house of Caleb.

4. जब दाऊद ने जंगल में समाचार पाया, कि नाबाल अपनी भेड़ों का ऊन कतर रहा है;

4. And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

5. तब दाऊद ने दस जवानों को वहां भेज दिया, ओर दाऊद ने उन जवानों से कहा, कि कर्मेल में नाबाल के पास जाकर मेरी ओर से उसका कुशलक्षेम पूछो।

5. And David sent ten young men, and David said to the young men, Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:

6. और उस से यों कहो, कि तू चिरंजीव रहे, तेरा कल्याण हो, और तेरा घराना कल्याण से रहे, और जो कुछ तेरा है वह कल्याण से रहे।

6. And thus shall ye say to him that liveth {in prosperity}, Peace {be} both to thee, and peace {be} to thy house, and peace {be} to all that thou hast.

7. मैं ने सुना है, कि जो तू ऊन कतर रहा है; तेरे चरवाहे हम लोगों के पास रहे, और न तो हम ने उनकी कुछ हानि की, और न उनका कुछ खोया गया।

7. And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds who were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there aught missing to them, all the while they were in Carmel.

8. अपने जवानों से यह बात पूछ ले, और वे तुझ का बताएंगे। सो इन जवानों पर तेरे अनुग्रह की दृष्टि हो; हम तो आनन्द के समय में आए हैं, इसलिये जो कुछ तेरे हाथ लगे वह अपने दासों और अपने बेटे दाऊद को दे।

8. Ask thy young men, and they will show thee. Wherefore let the young men find favor in thy eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatever cometh to thy hand, to thy servants, and to thy son David.

9. ऐसी ऐसी बातें दाऊद के जवान जाकर उसके नाम से नाबाल को सुनाकर चुप रहे।

9. And when David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal in the name of David, according to all these words, and ceased.

10. नाबाल ने दाऊद के जनों को उत्तर देकर उन से कहा, दाऊद कौन है? यिशै का पुत्रा कौन है? आज कल बहुत से दास अपने अपने स्वामी के पास से भाग जाते हैं।

10. And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who {is} David? and who {is} the son of Jesse? there are many servants in these days that break away every man from his master.

11. क्या मैं अपनी रोटी- पानी और जो पशु मैं ने अपने कतरनेवालों के लिये मारे हैं लेकर ऐसे लोगों को दे दूं, जिनको मैं नहीं जानता कि कहां के हैं?

11. Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give {it} to men, whom I know not whence they {are}?

12. तब दाऊद के जवानों ने लौटकर अपना मार्ग लिया, और लौटकर उसको से सब बातें ज्यों की त्यों सुना दीं।

12. So David's young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all these sayings.

13. तब दाऊद ने अपने जनों से कहा, अपनी अपनी तलवार बान्ध लो। तब उन्हों ने अपनी अपनी तलवार बान्ध ली; और दाऊद ने भी अपनी तलवार बान्घ ली; और कोई चार सौ पुरूष दाऊद के पीछे पीछे चले, और दो सौ समान के पास रह गए।

13. And David said to his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the goods.

14. परन्तु एक सेवक ने नाबाल की पत्नी अबीगैल को बताया, कि दाऊद ने जंगल से हमारे स्वामी को आशीर्वाद देने के लिये दूत भेजे थे; और उस ने उन्हें ललकारा दिया।

14. But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers from the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed at them.

15. परन्तु वे मनुष्य हम से बहुत अच्छा बर्ताव रखते थे, और जब तक हम मैदान में रहते हुए उनके पास आया जाया करते थे, तब तक न तो हमारी कुछ हानि हुई, और न हमारा कुछ खोया गया;

15. But the men {were} very good to us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields:

16. जब तक हम उन के साथ भेड़- बकरियां चराते रहे, तब तक वे रात दिन हमारी आड़ बने रहे।

16. They were a wall to us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

17. इसलिये अब सोच विचार कर कि क्या करना चाहिए; क्योंकि उन्हों ने हमारे स्वामी की ओर उसके समस्त घराने की हानि ठानी होगी, वह तो ऐसा दुष्ट है कि उस से कोई बोल भी नहीं सकता।

17. Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do: for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he {is such} a son of Belial, that {a man} cannot speak to him.

18. अब अबीगैल ने फुर्ती से दो सौ रोटी, और दो कुप्पी दाखमधु, और पांच भेड़ियों का मांस, और पांच सआ भूना हुआ अनाज, और एक सौ गुच्छे किशमिश, और अंजीरों की दो सौ टिकियां लेकर गदहों पर लदवाई।

18. Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched {corn}, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid {them} on asses.

19. और उस ने अपने जवानों से कहा, तुम मेरे आगे आगे चलो, मैं तुम्हारे पीछे पीछे आती हूं; परनतु उस ने अपने पति नाबाल से कुछ न कहा।

19. And she said to her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.

20. वह गदहे पर चढ़ी हुई पहाड़ की आड़ में उतरी जाती थी, और दाऊद अपने जनों समेत उसके सामहने उतरा आता था; और वह उनको मिली।

20. And it was {so}, {as} she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert of the hill, and behold, David and his men came down over against her; and she met them.

21. दाऊद ने तो सोचा था, कि मैं ने जो जंगल में उसके सब माल की ऐसी रक्षा की कि उसका कुछ भी न खोया, यह नि:सन्देह व्यर्थ हुआ; क्योंकि उस ने भलाई के बदले मुझ से बुराई ही की है।

21. (Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this {man} hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that {pertained} to him: and he hath requited me evil for good.

22. यदि बिहान को उजियाला होने तक उस जन के समस्त लोगों में से एक लड़के को भी मैं जीवित छोड़ूं, तो परमेश्वर मेरे सब शत्रुओं से ऐसा ही, वरन इस से भी अधिक करे।

22. So and more also do God to the enemies of David, if I leave of all that {pertain} to him by the morning light any male person.)

23. दाऊद को देख अबीगैल फुर्ती करके गदहे पर से उतर पड़ी, और दाऊद के सम्मुख मुंह के बल भूमि पर गिरकर दण्डवत् की।

23. And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground.

24. फिर वह उसके पांव पर गिरके कहने लगी, हे मेरे प्रभु, यह अपराण मेरे ही सिर पर हो; तेरी दासी तुझ से कुछ कहना चाहती है, और तू अपनी दासी की बातों को सुन ले।

24. And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, {upon} me {let this} iniquity {be}: and let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thy audience, and hear the words of thy handmaid.

25. मेरा प्रभु उस दुष्ट नाबाल पर चित्त न लगाए; क्योंकि जैसा उसका नाम है वैसा ही वह आप है; उसका नाम तो नाबाल है, और सचमुच उस में मूढ़ता पाई जाती है; परन्तु मुझ तेरी दासी ने अपने प्रभु के जवानों को जिन्हें तू ने भेजा था न देखा था।

25. Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, {even} Nabal; for as his name {is}, so {is} he; Nabal {is} his name, and folly {is} with him: but I thy handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.

26. और अब, हे मेरे प्रभु, यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ और तेरे जीवन की शपथ, कि यहोवा ने जो तुझे खून से और अपने हाथ के द्वारा अपना पलटा लेने से रोक रखा है, इसलिये अब तेरे शत्रु और मेरे प्रभु की हाति के चाहनेवाले नाबाल ही के समान ठहरें।

26. Now therefore, my lord, {as} the LORD liveth, and {as} thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withheld thee from coming to {shed} blood, and from avenging thyself with thy own hand, now let thy enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.

27. और अब यह भेंट जो तेरी दासी अपने प्रभु के पास लाई है, उन जवानों को दी जाए जो मेरे प्रभु के साथ चालते हैं।

27. And now this blessing which thy handmaid hath brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men that follow my lord.

28. अपनी दासी का अपराध क्षमा कर; क्योंकि यहोवा निश्चय मेरे प्रभु का घर बसाएगा और स्थिर करेगा, इसलिये कि मेरा प्रभु यहोवा की ओर से लड़ता है; और जन्म भर तुझ में कोई बुराई नहीं पाई जाएगी।

28. I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thy handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee {all} thy days.

29. और यद्यपि एक मनुष्य तेरा पीछा करनेऔर तेरे प्राण का ग्राहक होने को उठा है, तौभी मेरे प्रभु का प्राण तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा की जीवनरूपी गठरी में बन्धा रहेगा, और तेरे शत्रुओं के प्राणों को वह मानो गोफन में रखकर फेंक देगा।

29. Yet a man hath risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thy enemies, them shall he sling out, {as from} the middle of a sling.

30. इसलिये जब यहोवा मेरे प्रभु के लिये यह समस्त भलाई करेगा जो उस ने तेरे विषय में कही है, और तुझे इस्राएल पर प्रधान करके ठहराएगा,

30. And it will come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;

31. तब तुझे इस कारण पछताना न होगा, वा मेरे प्रभु का हृदय पीड़ित न होगा कि तू ने अकारण खून किया, और मेरे प्रभु ने अपना पलटा आप लिया है। फिर जब यहोवा मेरे प्रभु से भलाई करे तब अपनी दासी को स्मरण करना।

31. That this will be no grief to thee, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that thou hast shed blood without cause, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thy handmaid.

32. दाऊद ने अबीगैल से कहा, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा धन्य है, जिस ने आज के दिन मुझ से भेंट करने केलिये तुझे भेजा है।

32. And David said to Abigail, Blessed {be} the LORD God of Israel, who sent thee this day to meet me:

33. और तेरा विवेक धन्य है, और तू आप भी धन्य है, कि तू ने मुझे आज के दिन खून करने और अपना पलटा आप लेने से रोक लिया है।

33. And blessed {be} thy advice, and blessed {be} thou, who hast kept me this day from coming to {shed} blood, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

34. क्योंकि सचमुच इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा, जिस ने मुझे तेरी हानि करने से रोका है, उसके जीवन की शपथ, यदि तू फुर्ती करके मुंझ से भेंट करने को न आती, तो नि:सन्देह बिहान को उजियाला होने तक नाबाल का कोई लड़का भी न बचता।

34. For in very deed, {as} the LORD God of Israel liveth, who hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal by the morning light any male person.

35. तब दाऊद ने उसे ग्रहण किया जो वह उसके लिये लाई थी; फिर उस से उस ने कहा, अपने घर कुशल से जा; सुन, मैं ने तेरी बात मानी है और तेरी बिनती ग्रहण कर ली है।

35. So David received from her hand {that} which she had brought him, and said to her, Return in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and have accepted thy person.

36. तब अबीगैल नाबाल के पास लौट गई; और क्या देखती है, कि वह घर में राजा की सी जेवनार कर रहा है। और नाबाल का मन मगन है, और वह नशे में अति चूर हो गया है; इसलियेउस ने भोर के उजियालेहाने से पहिले उस से कुछ भी न कहा।

36. And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart {was} merry within him, for he {was} very drunken: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

37. बिहान को जब नाबाल का नशा उतर गया, तब उसकी पत्नी ने उसे कुल हाल सुना दिया, तब उसके मन का हियाव जाता रहा, और वह पत्थर सा सुन्न हो गया।

37. But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine had left Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became {as} a stone.

38. और दस दिन के पश्चात् यहोवा ने नाबाल को ऐसा मारा, कि वह मर गया।

38. And it came to pass about ten days {after}, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

39. नाबाल के मरने का हाल सुनकर दाऊद ने कहा, धन्य है यहोवा जिस ने नाबाल के साथ मेरी नामधराई का मुक मा लड़कर अपने दास को बुराई से रोक रखा; और यहोवा ने नाबाल की बुराईको उसी के सिर पर लाद दिया है। तब दाऊद ने लोगों को अबीगैल के पास इसलिये भेजा कि वे उस से उसकी पत्नी होने की बातचीत करें।

39. And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed {be} the LORD, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to himself for a wife.

40. तो जब दाऊद के सेवक कर्मेल को अबीगैल के पास पहुंचे, तब उस से कहने लगे, कि दाऊद ने हमें तेरे पास इसलिये भेजा है कि तू उसकी पत्नी बने।

40. And when the servants of David had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, David hath sent us to thee, to take thee to him for a wife.

41. तब वह उठी, और मुंह के बल भूमि पर गिर दण्डवत् करके कहा, तेरी दासी अपने प्रभु के सेवकों के चरण धोने के लिये लौंडी बने।

41. And she arose, and bowed herself on {her} face to the earth, and said, Behold, {let} thy handmaid {be} a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.

42. तब अबीगैल फुर्ती से उठी, और गदहे पर चढ़ी, और उसकी पांच सहेलियां उसके पीछे पीछे हो ली; और वह दाऊद के दूतों के पीछे पीछे गई; और उसकी पत्नी हो गई।

42. And Abigail hasted, and arose, and rode upon an ass, with five damsels of hers that went after her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife.

43. और दाऊद ने चिज्रैल नगर की अहिनोअम को भी ब्याह लिया, तो वे दोनों उसकी पत्नियां हुई।

43. David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they were also both of them his wives.

44. परन्तुशाऊल ने अपनी बेटी दाऊद की पत्नी मीकल को लैश के पुत्रा गल्लीमवासी पलती को दे दिया था।।

44. But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, who {was} of Gallim.
