1. बिन्यामीन के गोत्रा में कीश नाम का एक पुरूष था, जो अपीह के पुत्रा बकोरत का परपोता, और सरोर का पोता, और अबीएल का पुत्रा था; वह एक बिन्यामीनी पुरूष का पुत्रा और बड़ा शक्तिशाली सूरमा था।

1. Now there was a man of Benjamin whose name was Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.

2. उसके शाऊल नाम एक जवान पुत्रा था, जो सुन्दर था, और इस्राएलियों में कोई उस से बढ़कर सुन्दर न था; वह इतना लम्बा था कि दूसरे लोग उसके कान्धे ही तक आते थे।

2. He had a son whose name was Saul, a choice and handsome [man], and there was not a more handsome person than he among the sons of Israel; from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people.

3. जब शाऊल के पिता कीश की गदहियां खो गईं, तब कीश ने अपने पुत्रा शाऊल से कहा, एक सेवक को अपने साथ ले जा और गदहियों को ढूंढ ला।

3. Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul's father, were lost. So Kish said to his son Saul, 'Take now with you one of the servants, and arise, go search for the donkeys.'

4. तब वह एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश और शलीशा देश होते हुए गया, परन्तु उन्हें न पाया। तब वे शालीम नाम देश भी होकर गए, और वहां भी न पाया। फिर बिन्यामीन के देश में गए, परन्तु गदहियां न मिलीं।

4. He passed through the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they did not find [them]. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, but [they were] not [there]. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find [them].

5. जब वे सूफ नाम देश में आए, तब शाऊल ने अपने साथ के सेवक से कहा, आ, हम लौट चलें, ऐसा न हो कि मेरा पिता गदहियों की चिन्ता छोड़कर हमारी चिन्ता करने लगे।

5. When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, 'Come, and let us return, or else my father will cease [to be concerned] about the donkeys and will become anxious for us.'

6. उस ने उस से कहा, सुन, इस नगर में परमेश्वर का एक जन है जिसका बड़ा आदरमान होता है; और जो कुछ वह कहता है वह बिना पूरा हुए नहीं रहता। अब हम उधर चलें, सम्भव है वह हम को हमार मार्ग बताए कि किधर जाएं।

6. He said to him, 'Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and the man is held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there, perhaps he can tell us about our journey on which we have set out.'

7. शाऊल ने अपने सेवक से कहा, सुन, यदि हम उस पुरूष के पास चलें तो उसके लिये क्या ले चलें? देख, हमारी थैलियों में की रोटी चुक गई है और भेंट के योग्य कोई वस्तु है ही नहीं, जो हम परमेश्वर के उस जन को दें। हमारे पास क्या है?

7. Then Saul said to his servant, 'But behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is gone from our sack and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?'

8. सेवक ने फिर शाऊल से कहा, कि मेरे पास तो एके शेकेल चान्दी की चौथाई है, वही मैं परमेश्वर के जन को दूंगा, कि वह हम को बताए कि किधर जाएं।

8. The servant answered Saul again and said, 'Behold, I have in my hand a fourth of a shekel of silver; I will give [it] to the man of God and he will tell us our way.'

9. पूर्वकाल में तो इस्राएल में जब कोई ऐसा कहता था, कि चलो, हम दर्शी के पास चलें; क्योंकि जो आज कल नबी कहलाता है वह पूर्वकाल में दर्शी कहलाता था।

9. (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he used to say, 'Come, and let us go to the seer'; for [he who is called] a prophet now was formerly called a seer.)

10. तब शाऊल ने अपने सेवक से कहा, तू ने भला कहा है; हम चलें। सो वे उस नगर को चले जहां परमेश्वर का जन था।

10. Then Saul said to his servant, 'Well said; come, let us go.' So they went to the city where the man of God was.

11. उस नगर की चढ़ाई पर चढ़ते समय उन्हें कई एक लड़कियां मिलीं जो पानी भरने को निकली थीं; उन्हों ने उन से पूछा, क्या दर्शी यहां है?

11. As they went up the slope to the city, they found young women going out to draw water and said to them, 'Is the seer here?'

12. उन्हों ने उत्तर दिया, कि है; देखो, वह तुम्हारे आगे है। अब फुर्ती करो; आज ऊंचे स्थान पर लोगों का यज्ञ है, इसलिये वह आज नगर में आया हुआ है।

12. They answered them and said, 'He is; see, [he is] ahead of you. Hurry now, for he has come into the city today, for the people have a sacrifice on the high place today.

13. ज्योंही तुम नगर में पहुंचो त्योंही वह तुम को ऊंचे स्थान पर खाना खाने को जाने से पहिले मिलेगा; क्योंकि जब तक वह न पहुंचे तब तक लोग भोजन करेंगे, इसलिये कि यज्ञ के विषय में वही धन्यवाद करता; तब उसके पीछे ही न्योतहरी भोजन करते हैं। इसलिये तुम अभी चढ़ जाओ, इसी समय वह तुम्हें मिलेगा।

13. 'As soon as you enter the city you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat, for the people will not eat until he comes, because he must bless the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited will eat. Now therefore, go up for you will find him at once.'

14. वे नगर में चढ़ गए और ज्योंही नगर के भीतर पहुंचे त्योंही शमूएल ऊंचे स्थान पर चढ़ने की मनसा से उनके साम्हने आ रहा था।।

14. So they went up to the city. As they came into the city, behold, Samuel was coming out toward them to go up to the high place.

15. शाऊल के आने से एक दिन पहिले यहोवा ने शमूएल को यह चिता रखा था,

15. Now a day before Saul's coming, the LORD had revealed [this] to Samuel saying,

16. कि कल इसी समय मैं तेरे पास बिन्यामीन के देश से एक पुरूश को भेजूंगा, उसी को तू मेरी इस्राएली प्रजा के ऊपर प्रधान होने के लिये अभिषेक करता। और वह मेरी प्रजा को पलिश्तियों के हाथ से छुड़ाएगा; क्योंकि मैं ने अपनी प्रजा पर कृपा दृष्टि की है, इसलिये कि उनकी चिल्लाहट मेरे पास पंहुची है।

16. 'About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over My people Israel; and he will deliver My people from the hand of the Philistines. For I have regarded My people, because their cry has come to Me.'

17. फिर जब शमूएल को शाऊल देख पड़ा, तब यहोवा ने उस से कहा, जिस पुरूष की चर्चा मैं ने तु से की थी वह यही है; मेरी प्रजा पर यही अधिकार करेगा।

17. When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, 'Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! This one shall rule over My people.'

18. तब शाऊल फाटक में शमूएल के निकट जाकर कहने लगा, मुझे बता कि दर्शी का घर कहां है?

18. Then Saul approached Samuel in the gate and said, 'Please tell me where the seer's house is.'

19. उस ने कहा, दर्शी तो मैं हूं; मेरे आगे आगे ऊंचे स्थान पर चढ़ जा, क्योंकि आज के दिन तुम मेरे साथ भोरन खाओगे, और बिहान को जो कुछ तेरे मन में हो सब कुछ मैं तुझे बताकर विदा करूंगा।

19. Samuel answered Saul and said, 'I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you shall eat with me today; and in the morning I will let you go, and will tell you all that is on your mind.

20. और तेरी गदहियां जो तीन दिन तुए खो गई थीं उनकी कुछ भी चिन्ता न कर, क्योंकि वे मिल गईं। और इस्राएल में जो कुछ मनभाऊ है वह किस का है? क्या वह तेरा और तेरे पिता के सारे घराने का नहीं है?

20. 'As for your donkeys which were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them, for they have been found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for you and for all your father's household?'

21. शाऊल ने उत्तर देकर कहा, क्या मैं बिन्यामीनी, अर्थात् सब इस्राएली गोत्रों में से छोटे गोत्रा का नहीं हूं? और क्या मेरा कुल बिन्यामीनी के गोत्रा के सारे कुलों में से छोटा नहीं है? इसलिये तू मुझ से ऐसी बातें क्यों कहता है?

21. Saul replied, 'Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel, and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me in this way?'

22. तब शमूएल ने शाऊल और उसके सेवक को कोठरी में पहुंचाकर न्योताहारी, जो लगभग तीस जन थे, उनके साथ मुख्य स्थान पर बैठा दिया।

22. Then Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the hall and gave them a place at the head of those who were invited, who were about thirty men.

23. फिर शमूएल ने रसोइये से कहा, जो टुकड़ा मैं ने तुझे देकर, अपने पास रख छोड़ने को कहा था, उसे ले आ।

23. Samuel said to the cook, 'Bring the portion that I gave you, concerning which I said to you, 'Set it aside.''

24. तो रसोइये ने जांघ को मांस समेत उठाकर शाऊल के आगे धर दिया; तब शमूएल ने कहा, जो रखा गया था उसे देख, और अपने साम्हने धरके खा; क्योंकि वह तेरे लिये इसी नियत समय तक, जिसकी चर्चा करके मैं ने लोगों को न्योता दिया, रखा हुआ है। और शाऊल ने उस दिन शमूएल के साथ भोजन किया।

24. Then the cook took up the leg with what was on it and set [it] before Saul. And [Samuel] said, 'Here is what has been reserved! Set [it] before you [and] eat, because it has been kept for you until the appointed time, since I said I have invited the people.' So Saul ate with Samuel that day.

25. तब वे ऊंचे स्थान से उतरकर नगर में आए, और उस ने घर की छत पर शाऊल से बातें कीं।

25. When they came down from the high place into the city, [Samuel] spoke with Saul on the roof.

26. बिहान को वे तड़के उठे, और पह फटते फटते शमूएल ने शाऊल को छत पर बुलाकर कहा, उठ, मैं तुम को विदा करूंगा। तब शाऊल उठा, और वह और शमूएल दोनों बाहर निकल गए।

26. And they arose early; and at daybreak Samuel called to Saul on the roof, saying, 'Get up, that I may send you away.' So Saul arose, and both he and Samuel went out into the street.

27. और नगर के सिरे की उतराई पर चलते चलते शमूएल ने शाऊल से कहा, अपने सेवक को हम से आगे बढ़ने की आज्ञा दे, (वह आगे बढ़ गया,) परन्तु तू अभी खड़ा रह कि मैं तुझे परमेश्वर का वचन सुनाऊं।।

27. As they were going down to the edge of the city, Samuel said to Saul, 'Say to the servant that he might go ahead of us and pass on, but you remain standing now, that I may proclaim the word of God to you.'
