1. तब किर्यत्यारीम के लोगों ने जाकर यहोवा के सन्दूक को उठाया, और अबीनादाब के घर में जो टीले पर बना था रखा, और यहोवा के सन्दूक की रक्षा करने के लिये अबीनादाब के पुत्रा एलीआजार को पवित्रा किया।।

1. Then the men of Kiriath-iearim came, and tooke vp the Arke of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill: and they sanctified Eleazar his sonne, to keepe the Arke of the Lord.

2. किर्यत्यारीम में रहते रहते सन्दूक को बहुत दिन हुए, अर्थात् बीस वर्ष बीत गए, और इस्राएल का सारा घराना विलाप करता हुआ यहोवा के पीछे चलने लगा।

2. (For while the Arke abode in Kiriath-iearim, the time was long, for it was twentie yeeres) and al the house of Israel lamented after ye Lord.

3. तब शमूएल ने इस्राएल के सारे घराने से कहा, यदि तुम अपने पूर्ण मन से यहोवा की ओर फिरे हो, तो पराए देवताओं और अश्तोरेत देवियों को अपने बीच में से दूर करो, और यहोवा की ओर अपना मन लगाकर केवल उसी की उपासना करो, तब वह तुम्हें पलिश्तियों के हाथ से छुड़ाएगा।

3. Then Samuel spake vnto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye be come againe vnto the Lord with all your heart, put away the strange gods from among you, and Ashtaroth, and direct your hearts vnto the Lord, and serue him only, and he shall deliuer you out of the hand of ye Philistims.

4. तब इस्राएलियों ने बाल देवताओं और अशतोरेत देवियों को दूर किया, और केवल यहोवा ही की उपासना करने लगे।।

4. Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and serued the Lord onely.

5. फिर शमूएल ने कहा, सब इस्राएलियों को मिस्पा में इकट्ठा करो, और मैं तुम्हारे लिये यहोवा से प्रार्थना करूंगा।

5. And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you vnto the Lord.

6. तब वे मिस्पा में इकट्ठे हुए, और जल भरके यहोवा के साम्हने उंडेल दिया, और उस दिन उपवास किया, और वहां कहने लगे, कि हम ने यहोवा के विरूद्ध पाप किया है। और शमूएल ने मिस्पा में इस्राएलियों का न्याय किया।

6. And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drewe water and powred it out before the Lord, and fasted the same day, and sayd there, We haue sinned against the Lord. And Samuel iudged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

7. जब पलिश्तियों ने सुना कि इस्राएली मिस्पा में इकट्ठे हुए हैं, तब उनके सरदारों ने इस्राएलियों पर चढ़ाई की। यह सुनकर इस्राएली पलिश्तियों से भयभीत हुए।

7. When the Philistims heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the princes of the Philistims went vp against Israel: and when the children of Israel heard that, they were afraide of the Philistims.

8. और इस्राएलियों ने शमूएल से कहा, हमारे लिये हमारे परमेश्वर यहोवा की दोहाई देना न छोड़, जिस से वह हम को पलिश्तियों के हाथ से बचाए।

8. And the children of Israel sayd to Samuel, Cease not to crie vnto the Lord our God for vs, that hee may saue vs out of the hand of the Philistims.

9. तब शमूएल ने एक दूधपिउवा मेम्ना ले सर्वांग होमबलि करके यहोवा को चढ़ाया; और शमूएल ने इस्राएलियों के लिये यहोवा की दोहाई दी, और यहोवा ने उसकी सुन ली।

9. Then Samuel tooke a sucking lambe, and offered it all together for a burnt offering vnto the Lord, and Samuel cryed vnto the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.

10. और जिस समय शमूएल होमबलि हो चढ़ा रहा था उस समय पलिश्ती इस्राएलियों के संग युद्ध करने के लिये निकट आ गए, तब उसी दिन यहोवा ने पलिश्तियों के ऊपर बादल को बड़े कड़क के साथ गरजाकर उन्हें घबरा दिया; और वे इस्राएलियों से हार गए।

10. And as Samuel offered the burnt offering, the Philistims came to fight against Israel: but the Lord thundred with a great thunder that day vpon the Philistims, and scattered them: so they were slaine before Israel.

11. तब इस्राएली पुरूषों ने मिस्पा से निकलकर पलिश्तियों को खदेड़ा, और उन्हें बेतकर के नीचे तक मारते चले गए।

11. And the men of Israel went from Mizpeh and pursued the Philistims, and smote them vntill they came vnder Beth-car.

12. तब शमूएल ने एक पत्थर लेकर मिस्पा और शेन के बीच में खड़ा किया, और यह कहकर उसका नाम एबेनेजेर रखा, कि यहां तक यहोवा ने हमारी सहायता की है।

12. Then Samuel tooke a stone and pitched it betweene Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name thereof, Eben-ezer, and he sayd, Hitherto hath the Lord holpen vs.

13. तब पलिश्ती दब गए, और इस्राएलियों के देश में फिर न आए, और शमूएल के जीवन भर यहोवा का हाथ पलिश्तियों के विरूद्ध बना रहा।

13. So the Philistims were brought vnder, and they came no more againe into the coastes of Israel: and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistims all the dayes of Samuel.

14. और एक्रोन और गत तक जितने नगर पलिश्तियों ने इस्राएलियों के हाथ से छीन लिए थे, वे फिर इस्राएलियों के वश में आ गए; और उनका देश भी इस्राएलियों ने पलिश्तियों के हाथ से छुड़ाया। और इस्राएलियों और एमोरियों के बीच भी सन्धि हो गई।

14. Also the cities which the Philistims had taken from Israel, were restored to Israel, from Ekron euen to Gath: and Israel deliuered the coastes of the same out of the hands of the Philistims: and there was peace betweene Israel and the Amorites.

15. और शमूएल जीवन भर इस्राएलियों का न्याय करता रहा।

15. And Samuel iudged Israel all the dayes of his life,

16. वह प्रति वर्ष बेतेल और गिलगाल और मिस्पा में घूम- घूमकर उन सब स्थानों में इस्राएलियों का न्याय करता था।

16. And went about yeere by yere to Beth-el, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and iudged Israel in all those places.

17. तब वह रामा में जहां उसका घर था लौट आया, और वहां भी इस्राएलियों का न्याय करता था, और वहां उस ने यहोवा के लिये एक वेदी बनाई।।

17. Afterward hee returned to Ramah: for there was his house, and there he iudged Israel: also he built an altar there vnto the Lord.
