1. फिर जीपी लोग गिबा में शाऊल के पास जाकर कहने लगे, क्या दाऊद उस हकीला नाम पहाड़ी पर जो यशीमोन के साम्हने है छिपा नहीं रहता?

1. And the Ziphites came unto Saul at Gibeah, saying, 'Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?'

2. तब शाऊल उठकर इस्राएल केतीन हजार छांटे हुए योद्धा संग लिए हुए गया कि दाऊद को जीप के जंगल में खोजे।

2. Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph.

3. और शाऊल ने अपनी छावनी मार्ग के पास हकीला नाम पहाड़ी पर जो यशीमोन के साम्हने है डाली। परन्तु दाऊद जंगल में रहा; और उस ने जान लिया, कि शाऊल मेरा पीछा करने केा जंगल में आया है;

3. And Saul pitched camp on the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the road. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4. तब दाऊद ने भेदियों को भेजकर निश्चय कर लिया कि शाऊल सचमुच आ गया है।

4. David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had come indeed.

5. तब शाऊल उठकर उस स्थान पर गया जहां शाऊल पड़ा था; और दाऊद ने उस स्थान को देखा जहां शाऊल अपने सेनापति नेर के पुत्रा अब्नेर समेत पड़ा था, और उसके लोग उसके चारों ओर डेरे डाले हुए थे।

5. And David arose and came to the place where Saul had pitched camp. And David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host; and Saul lay in the entrenchment, and the people pitched round about him.

6. तब दाऊद ने हित्ती अहीमेलेक और जरूयाह के पुत्रा योआब के भाई अबीशै से कहा, मेरे साथ उस छावनी में शाऊल के पास कौन चलेगा? अबीशै ने कहा, तेरे साथ मैं चलूंगा।

6. Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, 'Who will go down with me to Saul into the camp?' And Abishai said, 'I will go down with thee.'

7. सो दाऊद और अबीशै रातों रात उन लोगों के पास गए, और क्या देचाते हैं, कि शाऊल गाड़ियों की आड़ में पड़ा सो रहा है, और उसका भाला उसके सिरहाने भूमि में गड़ा है; और अब्नेर और योद्धा लोग उसके चारों ओर पड़े हुए हैं।

7. So David and Abishai came to the people by night. And behold, Saul lay sleeping within the entrenchment, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster; but Abner and the people lay round about him.

8. तब अबीशै ने दाऊद से कहा, परमेश्वर ने आज तेरे शत्रु को तेरे हाथ में कर दिया है; इसलिये अब मैं उसकेा एक बार ऐसा मारूं कि भाला उसे बेधता हुआ भूमि में धंस जाए, और मुझ को उसे दूसरी बार मारना न पड़ेगा।

8. Then said Abishai to David, 'God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day. Now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.'

9. दाऊद ने अबीशै से कहा, उसे नाश न कर; क्योंकि यहोवा के अभिषिक्त पर हाथ चलाकर कौन निर्दोष ठहर सकता है।

9. And David said to Abishai, 'Destroy him not, for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless?'

10. फिर दाऊद ने कहा, यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ यहोवा ही उसको मारेगा; वा वह अपनी मृत्यु से मरेगा; वा वह लड़ाई में जाकर मर जाएगा।

10. David said furthermore, 'As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall descend into battle and perish.

11. यहावेा न करे कि मैं अपना हाथ यहोवा के अभिषिक्त पर बढ़ाऊ; अब उसके सिरहाने से भाला और पानी की झारी उठा ले, और हम यहां से चले जाएं।

11. The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed; but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.'

12. तब दाऊद ने भाले और पानी की झारी को शाऊल के सिरहाने से उठा लिया; और वे चले गए। और किसी ने इसे न देखा, और न जाना, और न कोई जागा; क्योंकि वे सब इस कारण सोए हुए थे, कि यहोवा की ओर से उन में भारी नींद समा गई थी।

12. So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster, and they got away. And no man saw it nor knew it, neither awakened; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen upon them.

13. तब दाऊइ परली ओर जाकर दूर के पहाड़ की चोटी पर खड़ा हुआ, और दोनों केबीच बड़ा अन्तर था;

13. Then David went over to the other side and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great space being between them.

14. और दाऊद ने उन लोगों को, और नेर के पुत्रा अब्नेर कोपुकार के कहा, हे अब्नेरए क्या तू नहीं सुनता? अब्नेर ने उत्तर देकर कहा, तू कौन है जो राजा को पुकारता है?

14. And David cried to the people and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, 'Answerest thou not, Abner?' Then Abner answered and said, 'Who art thou that criest to the king?'

15. दाऊद ने अब्नेर से कहा, क्या तू पुरूष नहीं है? इस्राएल में तेरे तुल्य कौन है? तू ने अपने स्वामी राजा की चौकसी क्यों नहीं की? एक जन तो तेरे स्वामी राजा को नाश करने घुसा था

15. And David said to Abner, 'Art not thou a valiant man? And who is like to thee in Israel? Why then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? For there came in one of the people to destroy the king thy lord.

16. जो काम तू ने किया है वह अच्छा नहीं। यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ तुम लोग मारे जाने के योग्य हो, क्योंकि तुम ने अपने स्वामी, यहोवा के अभिषिक्त की चौकसी नहीं की। और अब देख, राजा का भाला और पानी की घरी जो उसके सिरहान थी वे कहां हैं,

16. This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'S anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.'

17. तब शाऊल ने दाऊद का बोल पहिचानकर कहा, हे मेरे बेटे दाऊद, क्या यह तेरा बोल है, दाऊद ने कहा, हां, मेरे प्रभु राजा, मेरा ही बोल है।

17. And Saul knew David's voice, and said, 'Is this thy voice, my son David?' And David said, 'It is my voice, my lord, O king.'

18. फिर उस ने कहा, मेरा प्रभु अपने दास का पीछा क्यों करता है? मैं ने क्या किया है? और मुझ से कौन सी बुराई हुई है?

18. And he said, 'Why doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? For what have I done, or what evil is in mine hand?

19. अब मेरा प्रभु राजा, अपने दास की बातें सुन ले। यदि यहोवा नेतुझे मेरे विरूद्ध उसकाया हो, तब तो वह भेंट ग्रहण करे; परन्तु यदि आदमियों ने ऐसा किया हो, तो वे यहोवा की ओर से शापित हों, क्योंकि उन्हों ने अब मुझे निकाल दिया हैकि मैं यहोवा के निज भाग में न रहूं, और उन्हों ने कहा है, कि जा पराए देवताओं की उपासना कर।

19. Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD, for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, `Go, serve other gods.'

20. इसलिये अब मेरा लोहू यहोवा की आखों की ओट में भूमि पर न बहने पाए; इस्राएल का राजा तो एक पिस्सू ढूंढ़ने आया है, जैसा कि कोई पहाड़ों पर तीतर का अहेर करे।

20. Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.'

21. शाऊल ने कहा, मैं ने पाप किया है, हे मेरे बेटे दाऊद लौट आ; मेरा प्राण आज के दिन तेरी दृष्टि में अनमोल ठहरा, इस कारण मैं फिर तेरी कुछ हानि न करूंगा; सुन, मैं ने मूर्खता की, और मुझ से बड़ी भूल हुई है।

21. Then said Saul, 'I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly.'

22. दाऊद ने उत्तर देकर कहा, हे राजा, भाले को देख, कोई जवान इधर आकर इसे ले जाए।

22. And David answered and said, 'Behold the king's spear! Let one of the young men come over and fetch it.

23. यहोवा एक एक को अपने अपने धर्म और सच्चाई का फल देगा; देख, आज यहोवा ने तुझ को मेरे हाथ में कर दिया था, परन्तु मैं ने यहोवा के अभिषिक्त पर अपना हाथ बढ़ाना उचित न समझा।

23. The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed.

24. इसलिये जैसे तेरे प्राण आज मेरी दृष्टि में प्रिय ठहरे, वैसे ही मेरे प्राण भी यहोवा की दृष्टि में प्रिय ठहरे, और वह मुझे समस्त विपत्तियों से छुड़ाए।

24. And behold, as thy life was much esteemed this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much esteemed in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.'

25. शाऊल ने दाऊद से कहा, हे मेरे बेटे दाऊद तू धन्य है! तू बड़े बड़े काम करेगा और तेरे काम सुफल होंगे। तब दाऊद ने अपना मार्ग लिया, और शाऊल भी अपने स्थान को लौट गया।।

25. Then Saul said to David, 'Blessed be thou, my son David. Thou shalt both do great things and also shalt still prevail.' So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
