1. फिर दारा राजा के चौथे वर्ष में किसलेव नाम नौवें महीने के चौथे दिन को, यहोवा का वचन जकर्याह के पास पहुंचा।

1. In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.

2. बेतेलवासियों ने शरेसेर और रेगेम्मेलेक को इसलिये भेजा था कि यहोवा से बिनती करें,

2. Bethel sent Sharezer with a deputation to entreat Yahweh's favour

3. और सेनाओं के यहोवा के भवन के याजकों से और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं से भी यह पूछें, क्या हमें उपवास करके रोना चाहिये जैसे कि कितने वर्षों से हम पांचवें महीने में करते आए हैं?

3. and to ask the priests in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth and the prophets, 'Ought I to go on mourning and fasting in the fifth month as I have been doing for so many years past?'

4. तब सेनाओं के यहोवा का यह वचन मेरे पास पहुंचा;

4. Then the word of Yahweh Sabaoth was addressed to me as follows,

5. सब साधारण लोगों से और याजकों से कह, कि जब तुम इन सत्तर वर्षों के बीच पांचवें और सातवें महीनों में उपवास और विलाप करते थे, तब क्या तुम सचमुच मेरे ही लिये उपवास करते थे?

5. 'Say to all the people of the country and to the priests, 'While you have been fasting and mourning in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, have you really been fasting for my sake?

6. और जब तुम खाते- पीते हो, तो क्या तुम अपने ही लिये नहीं खाते, और क्या तुम अपने ही लिये नहीं पीते हो?

6. And when you were eating and drinking, were you not eating and drinking for your own sake?

7. क्या यह वही वचन नहीं है, जो यहोवा अगले भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा उस समय पुकारकर कहता रहा जब यरूशलेम अपने चारों ओर के नगरों समेत चैन से बसा हुआ था, और दक्खिन देश और नीचे का देश भी बसा हुआ था?

7. Do you not know the words which Yahweh proclaimed through the prophets in the past, when Jerusalem was inhabited and secure, as were her surrounding towns, and when the Negeb and the lowlands were inhabited?' ' (

8. फिर यहोवा का यह वचन जकर्याह के पास पहुंचा, सेनाओं के यहोवा ने यों कहा है,

8. The word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah as follows,

9. खराई से न्याय चुकाना, और एक दूसरे के साथ कृपा और दया से काम करना,

9. 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this.) He said, 'Apply the law fairly, and show faithful love and compassion towards one another.

10. न तो विधवा पर अन्धेर करता, न अनाथों पर, न परदेशी पर, और न दीन जन पर; और न अपने अपने मन में एक दूसरे की हानि की कल्पना करना।

10. Do not oppress the widow and the orphan, the foreigner and the poor, and do not secretly plan evil against one another.'

11. परन्तु उन्हों ने चित्त लगाना न चाहा, और हठ किया, और अपने कानों को मूंद लिया ताकि सुन न सकें।

11. But they would not listen; they turned a rebellious shoulder; they stopped their ears rather than hear;

12. वरन उन्हों ने अपने हृदय को इसलिये बज्र सा बना लिया, कि वे उस व्यवस्था और उस वचनों को न मान सकें जिन्हें सेनाओं के यहोवा ने अपने आत्मा के द्वारा अगले भविष्यद्वक्ताओं से कहला भेजा था। इस कारण सेनाओं के यहोवा की ओर से उन पर बड़ा क्रोध भड़का।

12. they made their hearts adamant rather than listen to the teaching and the words that Yahweh Sabaoth had sent -- by his spirit -- through the prophets in the past; and consequently the fury of Yahweh Sabaoth overtook them.

13. और सेनाओं के यहोवा का यह वचन हुआ, कि जैसे मेरे पुकारने पर उन्हों ने नहीं सुना, वैसे ही उसके पुकारने पर मैं भी न सुनूंगा;

13. And so, since when he called they would not listen, 'I would not listen when they called', says Yahweh Sabaoth,

14. वरन मैं उन्हें उन सब जातियों के बीच जिन्हें वे नहीं जानते, आंधी के द्वारा तितर- बितर कर दूंगा, और उनका देश उनके पीछे ऐसा उजाड़ पड़ा रहेगा कि उस में किसी का आना जाना न होगा; इसी प्राकर से उन्हों ने मनोहर देश को उजाड़ कर दिया।।

14. but scattered them among all the nations unknown to them. Hence, after they had gone, the country was deserted, and no one came or went. They had turned a land of delights into a desert.' '
