1. फिर दारा राजा के चौथे वर्ष में किसलेव नाम नौवें महीने के चौथे दिन को, यहोवा का वचन जकर्याह के पास पहुंचा।

1. And it came to pass, in the fourth year of Darius the king, that the word of Yahweh came unto Zechariah, on the fourth of the ninth month, in Chisleu;

2. बेतेलवासियों ने शरेसेर और रेगेम्मेलेक को इसलिये भेजा था कि यहोवा से बिनती करें,

2. yea when Bethel sent Sherezer and Regemmelech, and his men, to pacify the face of Yahweh:

3. और सेनाओं के यहोवा के भवन के याजकों से और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं से भी यह पूछें, क्या हमें उपवास करके रोना चाहिये जैसे कि कितने वर्षों से हम पांचवें महीने में करते आए हैं?

3. to speak unto the priests that pertained to the house of Yahweh of hosts, and unto the prophets, saying, Shall I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

4. तब सेनाओं के यहोवा का यह वचन मेरे पास पहुंचा;

4. Then came the word of Yahweh of hosts unto me, saying:

5. सब साधारण लोगों से और याजकों से कह, कि जब तुम इन सत्तर वर्षों के बीच पांचवें और सातवें महीनों में उपवास और विलाप करते थे, तब क्या तुम सचमुच मेरे ही लिये उपवास करते थे?

5. Speak thou unto all the people of the land, and unto the priests, saying, When ye fasted and lamented in the fifth and in the seventh, even these seventy years, did ye, really fast, unto, me?

6. और जब तुम खाते- पीते हो, तो क्या तुम अपने ही लिये नहीं खाते, और क्या तुम अपने ही लिये नहीं पीते हो?

6. And, when ye used to eat and when ye used to drink, was it not, of your own accord, ye did eat, and, of your own accord, ye did drink?

7. क्या यह वही वचन नहीं है, जो यहोवा अगले भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा उस समय पुकारकर कहता रहा जब यरूशलेम अपने चारों ओर के नगरों समेत चैन से बसा हुआ था, और दक्खिन देश और नीचे का देश भी बसा हुआ था?

7. Should ye not have been doing the things which Yahweh, had proclaimed, by the hand of the former prophets, while yet Jerusalem was inhabited and in peace, with her cities round about her, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?

8. फिर यहोवा का यह वचन जकर्याह के पास पहुंचा, सेनाओं के यहोवा ने यों कहा है,

8. And the word of Yahweh came unto Zechariah, saying:

9. खराई से न्याय चुकाना, और एक दूसरे के साथ कृपा और दया से काम करना,

9. Thus, spake Yahweh of hosts, saying, With true justice, give ye judgment, and, lovingkindness and compassions, observe ye, one with another;

10. न तो विधवा पर अन्धेर करता, न अनाथों पर, न परदेशी पर, और न दीन जन पर; और न अपने अपने मन में एक दूसरे की हानि की कल्पना करना।

10. And, the widow and the fatherless, the sojourner and the humbled, do not ye oppress, and, wickedness between one man and another, do not ye devise in your hearts.

11. परन्तु उन्हों ने चित्त लगाना न चाहा, और हठ किया, और अपने कानों को मूंद लिया ताकि सुन न सकें।

11. Howbeit they refused to give heed, but put forth a rebellious shoulder, and, their ears, made they hard of hearing, that they might not hear;

12. वरन उन्हों ने अपने हृदय को इसलिये बज्र सा बना लिया, कि वे उस व्यवस्था और उस वचनों को न मान सकें जिन्हें सेनाओं के यहोवा ने अपने आत्मा के द्वारा अगले भविष्यद्वक्ताओं से कहला भेजा था। इस कारण सेनाओं के यहोवा की ओर से उन पर बड़ा क्रोध भड़का।

12. and, their heart, turned they into adamant, that they might not hear the law, nor the words which Yahweh of hosts sent by his spirit, through the former prophets, and so there came great wrath from Yahweh of hosts.

13. और सेनाओं के यहोवा का यह वचन हुआ, कि जैसे मेरे पुकारने पर उन्हों ने नहीं सुना, वैसे ही उसके पुकारने पर मैं भी न सुनूंगा;

13. Therefore came it to pass that just as he cried out and they hearkened not, so, used they to cry out, and I used not to hearken, saith Yahweh of hosts;

14. वरन मैं उन्हें उन सब जातियों के बीच जिन्हें वे नहीं जानते, आंधी के द्वारा तितर- बितर कर दूंगा, और उनका देश उनके पीछे ऐसा उजाड़ पड़ा रहेगा कि उस में किसी का आना जाना न होगा; इसी प्राकर से उन्हों ने मनोहर देश को उजाड़ कर दिया।।

14. But I whirled them over all the nations whom they had not known, and, the land, was made desolate after them, that none passed through and returned, Yea they made of a delightful land a desolation.
