1. हे मेरी बहिन, हे मेरी दुल्हिन, मैं अपनी बारी में आया हूं, मैं ने अपना गन्धरस और बलसान चुन लिया; मैं ने मधु समेत छत्ता खा लिया, मैं ने दूध और दाखमधु भी लिया।। हे मित्रों, तुम भी खाओ, हे प्यारों, पियो, मनमाना पियो!

1. I HAVE come into my garden, my sister, my [promised] bride; I have gathered my myrrh with my balsam and spice [from your sweet words I have gathered the richest perfumes and spices]. I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends [feast on, O revelers of the palace; you can never make my lover disloyal to me]! Drink, yes, drink abundantly of love, O precious one [for now I know you are mine, irrevocably mine! With his confident words still thrilling her heart, through the lattice she saw her shepherd turn away and disappear into the night]. [John 16:33.]

2. मैं मोती थी, परन्तु मेरा मन जागता था। सुन! मेरा प्रेमी खटखटाता है, और कहता है, हे मेरी बहिन, हे मेरी प्रिय, हे मेरी कबूतरी, हे मेरी निर्मल, मेरे लिये द्वार खोल; क्योंकि मेरा सिर ओस से भरा है, और मेरी लटें रात में गिरी हुई बून्दों से भीगी हैं।

2. I went to sleep, but my heart stayed awake. [I dreamed that I heard] the voice of my beloved as he knocked [at the door of my mother's cottage]. Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my spotless one [he said], for I am wet with the [heavy] night dew; my hair is covered with it. [Job 11:13-15.]

3. मैं अपना वस्त्रा उतार चुकी थी मैं उसे फिर कैसे पहिनूं? मैं तो अपने पांव धो चुकी थी अब उनको कैसे मैला करूं?

3. [But weary from a day in the vineyards, I had already sought my rest] I had put off my garment--how could I [again] put it on? I had washed my feet--how could I [again] soil them? [Isa. 32:9; Heb. 3:15.]

4. मेरे प्रेमी ने अपना हाथ किवाड़ के छेद से भीतर डाल दिया, तब मेरा हृदय उसके लिये उभर उठा।

4. My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my heart was moved for him.

5. मैं अपने प्रेमी के लिये द्वार खोलने को उठी, और मेरे हाथों से गन्धरस टपका, और मेरी अंगुलियों पर से टपकता हुआ गन्धरस बेण्डे की मूठों पर पड़ा।

5. I rose up to open for my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, and my fingers with liquid [sweet-scented] myrrh, [which he had left] upon the handles of the bolt.

6. मैं ने अपने प्रेमी के लिये द्वार तो खोला परन्तु मेरा प्रेमी मुड़कर चला गया था। जब वह बोल रहा था, तब मेरा प्राण घबरा गया था मैं ने उसको ढूंढ़ा, परन्तु न पाया; मैं ने उसको पुकारा, परन्तु उस ने कुछ उत्तर न दिया।

6. I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had turned away and withdrawn himself, and was gone! My soul went forth [to him] when he spoke, but it failed me [and now he was gone]! I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

7. पहरेवाले जो नगर में घूमते थे, मुझे मिले, उन्हों ने मुझे मारा और घायल किया; शहरपनाह के पहरूओं ने मेरी च र मुझ से छीन ली।

7. The watchmen who go about the city found me. They struck me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took my veil and my mantle from me.

8. हे यरूशलेम की पुत्रियों, मैं तुम को शपथ धराकर कहती हूं, यदि मेरा प्रेमी तुमको मिल जाए, तो उस से कह देना कि में प्रेम में रोगी हूं।

8. I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my beloved, that you tell him that I am sick from love [simply sick to be with him]. [Ps. 63:1.]

9. हे स्त्रियों में परम सुन्दरी तेरा प्रेमी और प्रेमियों से किस बात में उत्तम है? तू क्यों हम को ऐसी शपथ धराती है?

9. What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women [taunted the ladies]? What is your beloved more than another beloved, that you should give us such a charge? [John 10:26.]

10. मेरा प्रेमी गोरा और लाल सा है, वह दस हजार में उत्तम है।

10. [She said] My beloved is fair and ruddy, the chief among ten thousand! [Ps. 45:2; John 1:14.]

11. उसका सिर चोखा कुन्दन है; उसकी लटकती हुई लटें कौवों की नाई काली हैं।

11. His head is [as precious as] the finest gold; his locks are curly and bushy and black as a raven.

12. उसकी आंखें उन कबूतरों के समान हैं जो दुध में नहाकर नदी के किनारे अपने झुण्ड में एक कतार से बैठे हुए हों।

12. His eyes are like doves beside the water brooks, bathed in milk and fitly set.

13. उसके गाल फूलों की फुलवारी और बलसान की उभरी हुई क्यारियां हैं। उसके होंठ सोसन फूल हैं जिन से पिघला हुआ गन्धरस टपकता है।।

13. His cheeks are like a bed of spices or balsam, like banks of sweet herbs yielding fragrance. His lips are like bloodred anemones or lilies distilling liquid [sweet-scented] myrrh.

14. उसके हाथ फीरोजा जड़े हुए सोने के किवाड़ हैं। उसका शरीर नीलम के फूलों से जड़े हुए हाथीदांत का काम है।

14. His hands are like rods of gold set with [nails of] beryl or topaz. His body is a figure of bright ivory overlaid with [veins of] sapphires.

15. उसके पांव कुन्दन पर बैठाये हुए संगमर्मर के खम्भे हैं। वह देखने में लबानोन और सुन्दरता में देवदार के वृक्षों के समान मनोहर है।

15. His legs are like strong and steady pillars of marble set upon bases of fine gold. His appearance is like Lebanon, excellent, stately, and majestic as the cedars.

16. उसकी वाणी अति मधुर है, हां वह परम सुन्दर है। हे यरूशलेम की पुत्रियो, यही मेरा प्रेमी और यही मेरा मित्रा है।।

16. His voice and speech are exceedingly sweet; yes, he is altogether lovely [the whole of him delights and is precious]. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem! [Ps. 92:15; Col. 1:15.]
