1. तब अरयूब ने कहा,

1. Then Job answered,

2. चित्त लगाकर मेरी बात सुनो; और तुम्हारी शान्ति यही ठहरे।

2. 'Be careful to listen to my words. Let this be the comfort you give me.

3. मेरी कुछ तो सहो, कि मैं भी बातें करूं; और जब मैं बातें कर चुकूं, तब पीछे ठट्ठा करना।

3. Listen to me while I speak. Then after I have spoken, you may keep on making fun of me.

4. क्या मैं किसी मनुष्य की दोहाई देता हूँ? फिर मैं अधीर क्यों न होऊं?

4. As for me, am I complaining against man? Why should my spirit not be troubled?

5. मेरी ओर चित्त लगाकर चकित हो, और अपनी अपनी उंगली दांत तले दबाओ।

5. Look at me, and be surprised; and put your hand over your mouth.

6. जब मैं स्मरण करता तब मैं घबरा जाता हूँ, और मेरी देह में कंपकंपी लगती है।

6. When I think, I am troubled; and fear takes hold of my body.

7. क्या कारण है कि दुष्ट लोग जीवित रहते हैं, वरन बूढ़े भी हो जाते, और उनका धन बढ़ता जाता है?

7. Why do the sinful live, become old, and become very powerful?

8. उनकी सन्तान उनके संग, और उनके बालबच्चे उनकी आंखों के साम्हने बने रहते हैं।

8. They watch their children's children become strong in front of their eyes.

9. उनके घर में भयरहित कुशल रहता है, और ईश्वर की छड़ी उन पर नहीं पड़ती।

9. Their houses are safe from fear. And the punishment of God does not come upon them.

10. उनका सांड़ गाभिन करता और चूकता नहीं, उनकी गायें बियाती हैं और बच्चा कभी नहीं गिरातीं।

10. Their bull mates without trouble. Their cow gives birth to live calves.

11. वे अपने लड़कों को झुणड के झुणड बाहर जाने देते हैं, और उनके बच्चे नाचते हैं।

11. They send out their little ones like a flock, and their children jump around.

12. वे डफ और वीणा बजाते हुए गाते, और बांसुरी के शब्द से आनन्दित होते हैं।

12. They sing to the timbrel and the harp. They show their joy at the sound of the horn.

13. वे अपने दिन सुख से बिताते, और पल भर ही में अधोलोक में उतर जाते हैं।

13. They spend their days with much more than they need. And all at once they go down to the place of the dead.

14. तौभी वे ईश्वर से कहते थे, कि हम से दूर हो ! तेरी गति जानने की हम को इच्छा नहीं रहती।

14. They say to God, 'Leave us alone! We do not want to know Your ways.

15. सर्वशक्तिमान क्या है, कि हम उसकी सेवा करें? और जो हम उस से बिनती भी करें तो हमें क्या लाभ होगा?

15. Who is the All-powerful, that we should serve Him? What would we have more than we have if we prayed to Him?'

16. देखो, उनका कुशल उनके हाथ में नहीं रहती, दुष्ट लोगों का विचार मुझ से दूर रहे।

16. See, their wellbeing is not in their own hands. The wisdom of the sinful is far from me.

17. कितनी बार दुष्टों का दीपक बुझ जाता है, और उन पर विपत्ति आ पड़ती है; और ईश्वर क्रोध करके उनके बांट में शोक देता है,

17. 'How many times is the lamp of the sinful put out, that their trouble comes upon them? How often does God send trouble to them in His anger?

18. और वे वायु से उड़ाए हुए भूसे की, और बवणडर से उड़ाई हुई भूसी की नाई होते हैं।

18. Are they like straw blown by the wind? Are they like straw that the storm carries away?

19. ईश्वर उसके अधर्म का दणड उसके लड़केबालों के लिये रख छोड़ता है, वह उसका बदला उसी को दे, ताकि वह जान ले।

19. You say, 'God stores up a man's punishment for his sons.' Let God punish him so that he may know it.

20. दुष्ट अपना नाश अपनी ही आंखों से देखे, और सर्वशक्तिमान की जलजलाहट में से आप पी ले।

20. Let his own eyes see himself being destroyed. Let him drink the anger of the All-powerful.

21. क्योंकि जब उसके महीनों की गिनती कट चुकी, तो अपने बादवाले घराने से उसका क्या काम रहा।

21. For what does he care for his house and family after he is dead, when the number of his months is over?

22. क्या ईश्वर को कोई ज्ञान सिखाएगा? वह तो ऊंचे पद पर रहनेवालों का भी न्याय करता है।

22. Can anyone teach God anything, when He judges those on high?

23. कोई तो अपने पूरे बल में बड़े चैन और सुख से रहता हुआ मर जाता है।

23. One man dies while still very strong, having everything he needs and time to enjoy it.

24. उसकी दोहनियां दूध से और उसकी हडि्डयां गूदे से भरी रहती हैं।

24. His body has good food and his bones are strong.

25. और कोई अपने जीव में कुढ़ कुढ़कर बिना सुख भोगे मर जाता है।

25. Another dies with bitter feelings in his soul, never having enjoyed anything good.

26. वे दोनों बराबर मिट्टी में मिल जाते हैं, और कीड़े उन्हें ढांक लेते हैं।

26. Together they lie down in the dust, and worms cover them.

27. देखो, मैं तुम्हारी कल्पनाएं जानता हूँ, और उन युक्तियों को भी, जो तुम मेरे विषय में अन्याय से करते हो।

27. 'See, I know your thoughts and your plans to wrong me.

28. तुम कहते तो हो कि रईस का घर कहां रहा? दुष्टों के निवास के डेरे कहां रहे?

28. For you say, 'Where is the house of the leader? Where are the tents where the sinful men live?'

29. परन्तु क्या तुम ने बटोहियों से कभी नहीं पूछा? क्या तुम उनके इस विषय के प्रमाणों से अनजान हो,

29. Have you not asked those who travel this way? Do you listen to what they say?

30. कि विपत्ति के दिन के लिये दुर्जन रखा जाता है; और महाप्रलय के समय के लिये ऐसे लोग बचाए जाते हैं?

30. For the sinful are kept for the day of trouble. They will be brought out on the day of anger.

31. उसकी चाल उसके मुंह पर कौन कहेगा? और उस ने जो किया है, उसका पलटा कौन देगा?

31. Who will talk to him about his way to his face? And who will punish him for what he has done?

32. तौभी वह क़ब्र को पहुंचाया जाता है, और लोग उस क़ब्र की रखवाली रिते रहते हैं।

32. When he is carried to the grave, men will keep watch over his grave.

33. नाले के ढेले उसको सुखदायक लगते हैं; और जैसे पूर्वकाल के लोग अनगिनित जा चुके, वैसे ही सब मनुष्य उसके बाद भी चले जाएंगे।

33. The earth of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will follow after him, and those who go before him are too many to number.

34. तुम्हारे उत्तरों में तो झूठ ही पाया जाता है, इसलिये तुम क्यों मुझे व्यर्थ शान्ति देते हो?

34. How then can you comfort me with foolish words? Your answers are full of lies.'
