1. तब अरयूब ने कहा,

1. Job said:

2. चित्त लगाकर मेरी बात सुनो; और तुम्हारी शान्ति यही ठहरे।

2. If you want to offer comfort, then listen to me.

3. मेरी कुछ तो सहो, कि मैं भी बातें करूं; और जब मैं बातें कर चुकूं, तब पीछे ठट्ठा करना।

3. And when I have finished, you can start your insults all over again.

4. क्या मैं किसी मनुष्य की दोहाई देता हूँ? फिर मैं अधीर क्यों न होऊं?

4. My complaint is against God; that's why I am impatient.

5. मेरी ओर चित्त लगाकर चकित हो, और अपनी अपनी उंगली दांत तले दबाओ।

5. Just looking at me is enough to make you sick,

6. जब मैं स्मरण करता तब मैं घबरा जाता हूँ, और मेरी देह में कंपकंपी लगती है।

6. and the very thought of myself fills me with disgust.

7. क्या कारण है कि दुष्ट लोग जीवित रहते हैं, वरन बूढ़े भी हो जाते, और उनका धन बढ़ता जाता है?

7. Why do evil people live so long and gain such power?

8. उनकी सन्तान उनके संग, और उनके बालबच्चे उनकी आंखों के साम्हने बने रहते हैं।

8. Why are they allowed to see their children grow up?

9. उनके घर में भयरहित कुशल रहता है, और ईश्वर की छड़ी उन पर नहीं पड़ती।

9. They have no worries at home, and God never punishes them.

10. उनका सांड़ गाभिन करता और चूकता नहीं, उनकी गायें बियाती हैं और बच्चा कभी नहीं गिरातीं।

10. Their cattle have lots of calves without ever losing one;

11. वे अपने लड़कों को झुणड के झुणड बाहर जाने देते हैं, और उनके बच्चे नाचते हैं।

11. their children play and dance safely by themselves.

12. वे डफ और वीणा बजाते हुए गाते, और बांसुरी के शब्द से आनन्दित होते हैं।

12. These people sing and celebrate to the sound of tambourines, small harps, and flutes,

13. वे अपने दिन सुख से बिताते, और पल भर ही में अधोलोक में उतर जाते हैं।

13. and they are successful, without a worry, until the day they die.

14. तौभी वे ईश्वर से कहते थे, कि हम से दूर हो ! तेरी गति जानने की हम को इच्छा नहीं रहती।

14. Those who are evil say to God All-Powerful, 'Leave us alone! Don't bother us with your teachings.

15. सर्वशक्तिमान क्या है, कि हम उसकी सेवा करें? और जो हम उस से बिनती भी करें तो हमें क्या लाभ होगा?

15. What do we gain from praying and worshiping you?

16. देखो, उनका कुशल उनके हाथ में नहीं रहती, दुष्ट लोगों का विचार मुझ से दूर रहे।

16. We succeeded all on our own.' And so, I keep away from them and their evil schemes.

17. कितनी बार दुष्टों का दीपक बुझ जाता है, और उन पर विपत्ति आ पड़ती है; और ईश्वर क्रोध करके उनके बांट में शोक देता है,

17. How often does God become angry and send disaster and darkness to punish sinners?

18. और वे वायु से उड़ाए हुए भूसे की, और बवणडर से उड़ाई हुई भूसी की नाई होते हैं।

18. How often does he strike them like a windstorm that scatters straw?

19. ईश्वर उसके अधर्म का दणड उसके लड़केबालों के लिये रख छोड़ता है, वह उसका बदला उसी को दे, ताकि वह जान ले।

19. You say, 'God will punish those sinners' children in place of those sinners.' But I say, 'Let him punish those sinners themselves until they really feel it.

20. दुष्ट अपना नाश अपनी ही आंखों से देखे, और सर्वशक्तिमान की जलजलाहट में से आप पी ले।

20. Let God All-Powerful force them to drink their own destruction from the cup of his anger.

21. क्योंकि जब उसके महीनों की गिनती कट चुकी, तो अपने बादवाले घराने से उसका क्या काम रहा।

21. Because after they are dead, they won't care what happens to their children.'

22. क्या ईश्वर को कोई ज्ञान सिखाएगा? वह तो ऊंचे पद पर रहनेवालों का भी न्याय करता है।

22. Who can tell God what to do? He judges powerful rulers.

23. कोई तो अपने पूरे बल में बड़े चैन और सुख से रहता हुआ मर जाता है।

23. Some of us die prosperous,

24. उसकी दोहनियां दूध से और उसकी हडि्डयां गूदे से भरी रहती हैं।

24. enjoying good health,

25. और कोई अपने जीव में कुढ़ कुढ़कर बिना सुख भोगे मर जाता है।

25. while others die in poverty, having known only pain.

26. वे दोनों बराबर मिट्टी में मिल जाते हैं, और कीड़े उन्हें ढांक लेते हैं।

26. But we all end up dead, beneath a blanket of worms.

27. देखो, मैं तुम्हारी कल्पनाएं जानता हूँ, और उन युक्तियों को भी, जो तुम मेरे विषय में अन्याय से करते हो।

27. My friends, I know that you are plotting against me.

28. तुम कहते तो हो कि रईस का घर कहां रहा? दुष्टों के निवास के डेरे कहां रहे?

28. You ask, 'Where is the home of that important person who does so much evil?'

29. परन्तु क्या तुम ने बटोहियों से कभी नहीं पूछा? क्या तुम उनके इस विषय के प्रमाणों से अनजान हो,

29. Everyone, near and far, agrees

30. कि विपत्ति के दिन के लिये दुर्जन रखा जाता है; और महाप्रलय के समय के लिये ऐसे लोग बचाए जाते हैं?

30. that those who do wrong never suffer disaster, when God becomes angry.

31. उसकी चाल उसके मुंह पर कौन कहेगा? और उस ने जो किया है, उसका पलटा कौन देगा?

31. No one points out their sin or punishes them.

32. तौभी वह क़ब्र को पहुंचाया जाता है, और लोग उस क़ब्र की रखवाली रिते रहते हैं।

32. Then at their funerals, they are highly praised;

33. नाले के ढेले उसको सुखदायक लगते हैं; और जैसे पूर्वकाल के लोग अनगिनित जा चुके, वैसे ही सब मनुष्य उसके बाद भी चले जाएंगे।

33. the earth welcomes them home, while crowds mourn.

34. तुम्हारे उत्तरों में तो झूठ ही पाया जाता है, इसलिये तुम क्यों मुझे व्यर्थ शान्ति देते हो?

34. But empty, meaningless words are the comfort you offer me.
