1. यहोवा ने अब्राम से कहा, अपने देश, और अपनी जन्मभूमि, और अपने पिता के घर को छोड़कर उस देश में चला जा जो मैं तुझे दिखाऊंगा।

1. Now the LORD had said to Abram: 'Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you.

2. और मैं तुझ से एक बड़ी जाति बनाऊंगा, और तुझे आशीष दूंगा, और तेरा नाम बड़ा करूंगा, और तू आशीष का मूल होगा।

2. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

3. और जो तुझे आशीर्वाद दें, उन्हें मैं आशीष दूंगा; और जो तुझे कोसे, उसे मैं शाप दूंगा; और भूमण्डल के सारे कुल तेरे द्वारा आशीष पाएंगे।

3. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'

4. यहोवा के इस वचन के अनुसार अब्राम चला; और लूत भी उसके संग चला; और जब अब्राम हारान देश से निकला उस समय वह पचहत्तर वर्ष का था।

4. So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram [was] seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

5. सो अब्राम अपनी पत्नी सारै, और अपने भतीजे लूत को, और जो धन उन्हों ने इकट्ठा किया था, और जो प्राणी उन्हों ने हारान में प्राप्त किए थे, सब को लेकर कनान देश में जाने को निकल चला; और वे कनान देश में आ भी गए।

5. Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.

6. उस देश के बीच से जाते हुए अब्राम शकेम में, जहां मोरे का बांज वृक्ष है, पंहुचा; उस समय उस देश में कनानी लोग रहते थे।

6. Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites [were] then in the land.

7. तब यहोवा ने अब्राम को दर्शन देकर कहा, यह देश मैं तेरे वंश को दूंगा : और उस ने वहां यहोवा के लिये जिस ने उसे दर्शन दिया था, एक वेदी बनाई।
गलातियों 3:16

7. Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, 'To your descendants I will give this land.' And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

8. फिर वहां से कूच करके, वह उस पहाड़ पर आया, जो बेतेल के पूर्व की ओर है; और अपना तम्बू उस स्थान में खड़ा किया जिसकी पच्छिम की ओर तो बेतेल, और पूर्व की ओर ऐ है; और वहां भी उस ने यहोवा के लिये एक वेदी बनाई : और यहोवा से प्रार्थना की

8. And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent [with] Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.

9. और अब्राम कूच करके दक्खिन देश की ओर चला गया।।

9. So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.

10. और उस देश में अकाल पड़ा : और अब्राम मि देश को चला गया कि वहां परदेशी होकर रहे -- क्योंकि देश में भयंकर अकाल पड़ा था।

10. Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine [was] severe in the land.

11. फिर ऐसा हुआ कि मि के निकट पहुंचकर, उस ने अपनी पत्नी सारै से कहा, सुन, मुझे मालूम है, कि तू एक सुन्दर स्त्री है :

11. And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, 'Indeed I know that you [are] a woman of beautiful countenance.

12. इस कारण जब मिद्दी तुझे देखेंगे, तब कहेंगे, यह उसकी पत्नी है, सो वे मुझ को तो मार डालेंगे, पर तुझ को जीती रख लेंगे।

12. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, 'This [is] his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live.

13. सो यह कहना, कि मैं उसकी बहिन हूं; जिस से तेरे कारण मेरा कल्याण हो और मेरा प्राण तेरे कारण बचे।

13. 'Please say you [are] my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.'

14. फिर ऐसा हुआ कि जब अब्राम मि में आया, तब मिस्त्रियों ने उसकी पत्नी को देखा कि यह अति सुन्दर है।

14. So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she [was] very beautiful.

15. और फिरौन के हाकिमों ने उसको देखकर फिरौन के साम्हने उसकी प्रशंसा की : सो वह स्त्री फिरौन के घर में रखी गई।

15. The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh's house.

16. और उस ने उसके कारण अब्राम की भलाई की; सो उसको भेड़- बकरी, गाय- बैल, दास- दासियां, गदहे- गदहियां, और ऊंट मिले।

16. He treated Abram well for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

17. तब यहोवा ने फिरौन और उसके घराने पर, अब्राम की पत्नी सारै के कारण बड़ी बड़ी विपत्तियां डालीं।

17. But the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

18. सो फिरौन ने अब्राम को बुलवाकर कहा, तू ने मुझ से क्या किया है ? तू ने मुझे क्यों नहीं बताया कि वह तेरी पत्नी है ?

18. And Pharaoh called Abram and said, 'What [is] this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she [was] your wife?

19. तू ने क्यों कहा, कि वह तेरी बहिन है ? मैं ने उसे अपनी ही पत्नी बनाने के लिये लिया; परन्तु अब अपनी पत्नी को लेकर यहां से चला जा।

19. 'Why did you say, 'She [is] my sister'? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take [her] and go your way.'

20. और फिरौन ने अपने आदमियों को उसके विषय में आज्ञा दी और उन्हों ने उसको और उसकी पत्नी को, सब सम्पत्ति समेत जो उसका था, विदा कर दिया।।

20. So Pharaoh commanded [his] men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.
