1. The Lord had said to Abram, 'Leave your country and your people. Leave your father's family. Go to the land I will show you.

2. और मैं तुझ से एक बड़ी जाति बनाऊंगा, और तुझे आशीष दूंगा, और तेरा नाम बड़ा करूंगा, और तू आशीष का मूल होगा।

2. 'I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing to others.

3. I will bless those who bless you. I will put a curse on anyone who calls down a curse on you. All nations on earth will be blessed because of you.'

4. यहोवा के इस वचन के अनुसार अब्राम चला; और लूत भी उसके संग चला; और जब अब्राम हारान देश से निकला उस समय वह पचहत्तर वर्ष का था।

4. So Abram left, just as the Lord had told him. Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran.

5. सो अब्राम अपनी पत्नी सारै, और अपने भतीजे लूत को, और जो धन उन्हों ने इकट्ठा किया था, और जो प्राणी उन्हों ने हारान में प्राप्त किए थे, सब को लेकर कनान देश में जाने को निकल चला; और वे कनान देश में आ भी गए।

5. He took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot. They took all of the things they had gotten in Haran. They also took the workers they had gotten there. They set out for the land of Canaan. And they arrived there.

6. उस देश के बीच से जाते हुए अब्राम शकेम में, जहां मोरे का बांज वृक्ष है, पंहुचा; उस समय उस देश में कनानी लोग रहते थे।

6. Abram traveled through the land. He went as far as the large tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the people of Canaan were living in the land.

7. तब यहोवा ने अब्राम को दर्शन देकर कहा, यह देश मैं तेरे वंश को दूंगा : और उस ने वहां यहोवा के लिये जिस ने उसे दर्शन दिया था, एक वेदी बनाई।

7. The Lord appeared to Abram at Shechem. He said, 'I will give this land to your children after you.' So Abram built an altar there to honor the Lord, who had appeared to him.

8. फिर वहां से कूच करके, वह उस पहाड़ पर आया, जो बेतेल के पूर्व की ओर है; और अपना तम्बू उस स्थान में खड़ा किया जिसकी पच्छिम की ओर तो बेतेल, और पूर्व की ओर ऐ है; और वहां भी उस ने यहोवा के लिये एक वेदी बनाई : और यहोवा से प्रार्थना की

8. From there, Abram went on toward the hills east of Bethel. He set up his tent there. Bethel was to the west, and Ai was to the east. Abram built an altar there and worshiped the Lord.

9. और अब्राम कूच करके दक्खिन देश की ओर चला गया।।

9. Then Abram left and continued toward the Negev Desert.

10. और उस देश में अकाल पड़ा : और अब्राम मि देश को चला गया कि वहां परदेशी होकर रहे -- क्योंकि देश में भयंकर अकाल पड़ा था।

10. At that time there wasn't enough food in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while.

11. फिर ऐसा हुआ कि मि के निकट पहुंचकर, उस ने अपनी पत्नी सारै से कहा, सुन, मुझे मालूम है, कि तू एक सुन्दर स्त्री है :

11. As he was about to enter Egypt, he spoke to his wife Sarai. He said, 'I know what a beautiful woman you are.

12. इस कारण जब मिद्दी तुझे देखेंगे, तब कहेंगे, यह उसकी पत्नी है, सो वे मुझ को तो मार डालेंगे, पर तुझ को जीती रख लेंगे।

12. The people of Egypt will see you. They will say, 'This is his wife.' And they will kill me. But they will let you live.

13. सो यह कहना, कि मैं उसकी बहिन हूं; जिस से तेरे कारण मेरा कल्याण हो और मेरा प्राण तेरे कारण बचे।

13. Say you are my sister. Then I'll be treated well because of you. My life will be spared because of you.'

14. फिर ऐसा हुआ कि जब अब्राम मि में आया, तब मिस्त्रियों ने उसकी पत्नी को देखा कि यह अति सुन्दर है।

14. Abram arrived in Egypt. The people of Egypt saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.

15. और फिरौन के हाकिमों ने उसको देखकर फिरौन के साम्हने उसकी प्रशंसा की : सो वह स्त्री फिरौन के घर में रखी गई।

15. When Pharaoh's officials saw her, they bragged to Pharaoh about her. Sarai was taken into his palace.

16. और उस ने उसके कारण अब्राम की भलाई की; सो उसको भेड़- बकरी, गाय- बैल, दास- दासियां, गदहे- गदहियां, और ऊंट मिले।

16. Pharaoh treated Abram well because of her. So Abram gained more sheep and cattle. He also got more male and female donkeys. And he gained more male and female servants and some camels.

17. तब यहोवा ने फिरौन और उसके घराने पर, अब्राम की पत्नी सारै के कारण बड़ी बड़ी विपत्तियां डालीं।

17. But the Lord sent terrible sicknesses on Pharaoh and everyone in his palace. He did it because of Abram's wife Sarai.

18. सो फिरौन ने अब्राम को बुलवाकर कहा, तू ने मुझ से क्या किया है ? तू ने मुझे क्यों नहीं बताया कि वह तेरी पत्नी है ?

18. So Pharaoh sent for Abram. 'What have you done to me?' he said. 'Why didn't you tell me she was your wife?

19. तू ने क्यों कहा, कि वह तेरी बहिन है ? मैं ने उसे अपनी ही पत्नी बनाने के लिये लिया; परन्तु अब अपनी पत्नी को लेकर यहां से चला जा।

19. Why did you say, 'She's my sister'? That's why I took her to be my wife. Now then, here's your wife. Take her and go!'

20. और फिरौन ने अपने आदमियों को उसके विषय में आज्ञा दी और उन्हों ने उसको और उसकी पत्नी को, सब सम्पत्ति समेत जो उसका था, विदा कर दिया।।

20. Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men. They sent him on his way. He left with his wife and everything he had.
