1. तब नामाती सोपर ने कहा,

1. And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,

2. मेरा जी चाहता है कि उत्तर दूं, और इसलिये बोलने में फुत करता हूँ।

2. Therefore my thoughts cause me to answer, even because of my haste in me.

3. मैं ने ऐसी चितौनी सुनी जिस से मेरी निन्दा हुई, और मेरी आत्मा अपनी समझ के अनुसार तुझे उत्तर देती है।

3. I have heard the rebuke meant to shame me, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

4. क्या तू यह नियम नहीं जानता जो प्राचीन और उस समय का है, जब मनुष्य पृथ्वी पर बसाया गया,

4. Do you know this from days of old, from the setting of man on earth,

5. कि दुष्टों का ताली बजाना जल्दी बन्द हो जाता और भक्तिहीनों का आनन्द पल भर का होता है?

5. that the exulting of the wicked is short, and the joy of the ungodly is for a moment?

6. चाहे ऐसे मनुष्य का माहात्म्य आकाश तक पहुंच जाए, और उसका सिर बादलों तक पहुंचे,

6. Though his honor mounts up to the heavens, and his head reaches to the clouds,

7. तौभी वह अपनी विष्ठा की नाई सदा के लिये नाश हो जाएगा; और जो उसको देखते थे वे पूछेंगे कि वह कहां रहा?

7. he shall perish forever like his dung; they who see him shall say, Where is he?

8. वह स्वप्न की नाई लोप हो जाएगा और किसी को फिर न मिलेगा; रात में देखे हुए रूप की नाई वह रहने न पाएगा।

8. He flies away like a dream, and shall not be found, and shall be chased away like a vision of the night.

9. जिस ने उसको देखा हो फिर उसे न देखेगा, और अपने स्थान पर उसका कुछ पता न रहेगा।

9. An eye glimpsed him, but will not again; yea, his place shall not see him again.

10. उसके लड़केबाले कंगालों से भी बिनती करेंगे, और वह अपना छीना हुआ माल फेर देगा।

10. His sons shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore his wealth.

11. उसकी हडि्डयों में जवानी का बल भरा हुआ है परन्तु वह उसी के साथ मिट्टी में मिल जाएगा।

11. His bones are full of his youthful vigor, but it lies down with him in the dust.

12. चाहे बुराई उसको मीठी लगे, और वह उसे अपनी जीभ के नीचे छिपा रखे,

12. Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hides it under his tongue;

13. और वह उसे बचा रखे और न छोड़े, वरन उसे अपने तालू के बीच दबा रखे,

13. though he spares it and will not leave it; yea, keeps it still in his mouth;

14. तौभी उसका भोजन उसके पेट में पलटेगा, वह उसके अन्दर नाग का सा विष बन जाएगा।

14. yet his food in his belly shall be turned; the gall of asps is within him.

15. उस ने जो धन निगल लिया है उसे वह फिर उगल देगा; ईश्वर उसे उसके पेट में से निकाल देगा।

15. He swallows riches, but vomits it; God shall cast them out of his belly.

16. वह नागों का विष चूस लेगा, वह करैत के डसने से मर जाएगा।

16. He shall suck the poison of asps; the viper's tongue shall slay him.

17. वह नदियों अर्थात् मधु और दही की नदियों को देखने न पाएगा।

17. He shall not see the rivers, the flowings of the brooks of honey and butter,

18. जिसके लिये उस ने परिश्रम किया, उसको उसे लौटा देना पड़ेगा, और वह उसे निगलने न पाएगा; उसकी मोल ली हुई वस्तुओं से जितना आनन्द होना चाहिये, उतना तो उसे न मिलेगा।

18. giving back his gain, and he will not eat. As to the wealth of his trading, even he shall not enjoy it.

19. क्योंकि उस ने कंगालों को पीसकर छोड़ दिया, उस ने घर को छीन लिया, उसको वह बढ़ाने न पाएगा।

19. For he pressed down and forsook the poor; he stole a house, but he had not built it.

20. लालसा के मारे उसको कभी शान्ति नहीं मिलती थी, इसलिये वह अपनी कोई मनभावनी वस्तु बचा न सकेगा।

20. Surely he shall not know quietness in his belly; he will not escape with the things of desire.

21. कोई वस्तु उसका कौर बिना हुए न बचती थी; इसलिये उसका कुशल बना न रहेगा

21. None of his food shall be left; therefore his good will not last.

22. पूरी सम्पत्ति रहते भी वह सकेती में पड़ेगा; तब सब दु:खियों के हाथ उस पर उठेंगे।

22. In the fullness of his plenty he shall be in trouble; every wretched one shall come on him.

23. ऐसा होगा, कि उसका पेट भरने के लिये ईश्वर अपना क्रोध उस पर भड़काएगा, और रोटी खाने के समय वह उस पर पड़ेगा।

23. It shall happen at the filling of his belly, God shall cast the fury of His wrath on him, and He shall rain on him while he is eating.

24. वह लोहे के हथियार से भागेगा, और पीतल के धनुष से मारा जाएगा।

24. He shall flee from the iron weapon, a bow of bronze shall pierce him.

25. वह उस तीर को खींचकर अपने पेट से निकालेगा, उसकी चमकीली नोंक उसके पित्ते से होकर निकलेगी, भय उस में समाएगा।

25. One draws it, and treads it from behind, even lightning from his gall; terror is on him.

26. उसके गड़े हुए धन पर घोर अन्धकार छा जाएगा। वह ऐसी आग से भस्म होगा, जो मनुष्य की फूंकी हुई न हो; और उसी से उसके डेरे में जो बचा हो वह भी भस्म हो जाएगा।

26. All darkness shall be hidden in his secret places; a fire not blown shall consume him; those left in his tent shall be broken.

27. आकाश उसका अथर्म प्रगट करेगा, और पृथ्वी उसके विरूद्ध खड़ी होगी।

27. The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth rise up against him.

28. उसके घर की बढ़ती जाती रहेगी, वह उसके क्रोध के दिन बह जाएगी।

28. The increase of his house shall depart, and shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

29. परमेश्वर की ओर से दुष्ट मनुष्य का अंश, और उसके लिये ईश्वर का ठहराया हुआ भाग यही है।

29. This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the inheritance of his word from God.
