1. उन दिनों में पलिश्तियों ने इस्राएल से लड़ने के लिये अपनी सेना इकट्ठी की। और आकीश ने दाऊद से कहा, निश्चय जान कि तुझे अपने जनों समेत मेरे साथ सेना में जाना होगा।

1. And it came to pass, in those days, when the Philistines gathered together their hosts for war, to fight with Israel, that Achish said unto David, Thou must, know, that, with me, shalt thou go forth in the host, thou and thy men.

2. दाऊद ने आकीश से कहा, इस कारण तू जान लेगा कि तेरा दास क्या करेगा। आकीश ने दाऊद से कहा, इस कारण मैं तुझे अपने सिर का रक्षक सदा के लिये ठहराऊंगा।।

2. And David said unto Achish, Therefore, now, shalt thou know what thy servant can do. And Achish said unto David, Therefore, keeper of my head, will I appoint thee, all the days.

3. शमूएल तो मर गया था, और समस्त इस्राएलियों ने उसके विषय छाती पीटी, और उसको उसके नगर रामा में मिट्टी दी थी। और शाऊल ने ओझों और भूतसिद्धि करनेवालों को देश से निकाल दिया था।।

3. Now, Samuel, was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city, Saul, moreover had put away them who had familiar spirits and them who were oracles, out of the land.

4. जब पलिश्ती इकट्ठे हुए और शूनेम में छावनी डाली, तो शाऊल ने सब इस्राएलियों को इकट्ठा किया, और उन्हों ने गिलबो में छावनी डाली।

4. So then the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came in, and encamped in Shunem, and Saul gathered together all Israel, and they encamped in Gilboa.

5. पलिश्तियों की सेना को देखकर शाऊल डर गया, और उसका मन अत्यन्त भयभीत हो कांप उठा।

5. And, when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled exceedingly.

6. और जब शाऊल ने यहोवा से पूछा, तब यहोवा ने न तो स्वप्न के द्वारा उस उत्तर दिया, और न ऊरीम के द्वारा, और न भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा।

6. Then Saul enquired of Yahweh, but Yahweh answered him not, neither by Dreams, nor by the Lights, nor by prophets.

7. तब शाऊल ने अपने कर्मचारियों से कहा, मेरे लिये किसी भूतसिद्धि करनेवाली को ढूंढो, कि मैं उसके पास जाकर उस से पूछूं। उसके कर्मचारियों ने उस से कहा, एन्दोर में एक भूतसिद्धि करनेवाली रहती है।

7. Then said Saul unto his servants Seek me out a woman that owneth a familiar spirit, that I may even go unto her, and enquire of her. And his servants said unto him, Lo! there is a woman that owneth a familiar spirit in En-dor.

8. तब शाऊल ने अपना भेष बदला, और दूसरे कपड़े पहिनकर, दो मनुष्य संग लेकर, रातोंरात चलकर उस स्त्री के पास गया; और कहा, अपने सिद्धि भूत से मेरे लिये भावी कहलवा, और जिसका नाम मैं लूंगा उसे बुलवा दे।

8. Saul therefore disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and departed he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night, and he said Divine for me, I pray thee, by the familiar spirit, and bring up for me whomsoever I shall name unto thee.

9. स्त्री ने उस से कहा, तू जानता है कि शाऊल ने क्या किया है, कि उस ने ओझों और भूतसिद्धि करनेवालों को देश से नाश किया है। फिर तू मेरे प्राण के लिये क्यों फंदा लगाता है कि मुझे मरवा डाले।

9. And the woman said unto him Lo! thou, knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off them who have familiar spirits and him who is an oracle, out of the land, wherefore, then, art thou striking at my life, to put me to death?

10. शाऊल ने यहोवा की शपथ खाकर उस से कहा, यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, इस बात के कारण तुझे दण्ड न मिलेगा।

10. So then Saul sware unto her by Yahweh, saying, By the life of Yahweh, there shall no punishment befall thee for this thing.

11. स्त्री ने पूछा, मैं तेरे लिये किस को बुलाऊ? उस ने कहा, शमूएल को मेरे लिये बुला।

11. Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up for thee? And he said, Samuel, bring thou up for me.

12. जब स्त्री ने शमूएल को देखा, तब ऊंचे शब्द से चिल्लाई; और शाऊल से कहा, तू ने मुझे क्यों धोखा दिया? तू तो शाऊल है।

12. And, when the woman saw Samuel, she made outcry with a loud voice, and the woman spake unto Saul, saying Wherefore hast thou deceived me, thou thyself being Saul?

13. राजा ने उस सेकहा, मत डर; तुझे क्या देख पड़ता है? स्त्री ने शाऊल से कहा, मुझे एक देवता पृथ्वी में से चढ़ता हुआ दिखाई पड़ता है।

13. And the king said unto her Be not afraid, but what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, A god, saw I, coming up out of the earth.

14. उस ने उस से पूछा उस का कैसा रूप ह? उस ने कहा, एक बूढ़ा पुरूष बागा ओढ़े हुए चढ़ा आता है। तब शाऊल ने निश्चय जानकर कि वह शमूएल है, औंधे मुंह भूमि पर गिरके दण्डवत् किया।

14. And he said to her What was his form? And she said An old man, coming up, he being wrapped about with a robe. Then Saul knew, that it was, Samuel, so he inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himself down.

15. शमूएल ने शाऊल से पूछा, तू ने मुझे ऊपर बुलवाकर क्यों सताया है? शाऊल ने कहा, मैं बड़े संकट में पड़ा हूं; क्योंकि पलिश्ती मेरे साथ लड़ रहे हैं और परमेश्वर ने मुझे छोड़ दिया, और अब मुझे न तो भविष्यद्वक्ताओं के द्वारा उत्तर देता है, और न स्वपनों के; इसलिये मैं ने तुझे बुलाया कि तू मुझे जता दे कि मैं क्या करूं।

15. And Samuel said unto Saul, Wherefore hast thou disquieted me, by bringing me up? And Saul said I am in sore distress, for, the Philistines, are making war against me, and, God, hath turned away from me, and answereth me no more either by means of the prophets, or by dreams, therefore have I even called for thee, to let me know, what I am to do.

16. शमूएल ने कहा, जब यहोवा तुझे छोड़कर तेरा शत्रु बन गया, तब तू मुझ से क्यों पूछता है?

16. Then said Samuel, Wherefore, then, shouldst thou ask me, when, Yahweh, hath turned away from thee, and hath come to be with thy neighbour?

17. यहोवा ने तो जैसे मुझ से कहलावाया था वैसा ही उस ने व्यवहार किया है; अर्थात् उस ने तेरे हाथ से राज्य छीनकर तेरे पड़ोसी दाऊद को दे दिया है।

17. Therefore hath Yahweh done for him, as he spake by me, yea Yahweh hath rent the kingdom out of thy hand, and given it to a neighbour of thine to David.

18. तू ने जो यहोवा की बात न मानी, और न अमालेकियों को उसके भड़के हुए कोप के अनुसा दण्ड दिया था, इस कारण यहोवा ने तुझ से आज ऐसा बर्ताव किया।

18. As thou didst not hearken unto the voice of Yahweh, neither didst execute the glow of his anger upon Amalek, therefore, this thing, hath Yahweh done unto thee this day;

19. फिर यहोवा तुझ समेत इस्राएलियों को पलिश्तियों के हाथ में कर देगा; और तू अपने बेटों समेत कल मेरे साथ होगा; और इस्राएली सेना को भी यहोवा पलिश्तियों के हाथ में कर देगा।

19. that Yahweh may deliver, Israel also, with thee, into the hand of the Philistines, and, to-morrow, thou and thy sons with thee are about to fall, the host of Israel also, will Yahweh deliver, into the hand of the Philistines.

20. तब शाऊल तुरन्त मुंह के बल भूमि पर गिर पड़ा, और शमूएल की बातों के कारण अत्यन्त डर गया; उस ने पूरे दिन और रात भोजन न किया था, इस से उस में बल कुछ भी न रहा।

20. Then Saul hastened, and fell prostrate the whole length of him to the earth, and was sore afraid, at the words of Samuel, and indeed, no, strength, was left in him, for he had not eaten food all the day and all the night.

21. तब वह स्त्री शाऊल के पास गई, और उसको अति व्याकुल देखकर उस से कहा, सुन, तेरी दासी ने तो तेरी बात मानी; और मैं ने अपने प्राण पर खेलकर तेरे वचनों को सुन लिया जो तू ने मुझ से कहा।

21. And the woman came unto Saul, and, when she saw that he was greatly terrified, she said unto him Lo! thy handmaid hearkened unto thy voice, and I put my life into my hand, and heard thy words which thou didst speak unto me.

22. तोअब तू भी अपनी दासी की बात मान; और मैं तेरे साम्हने एक टुकड़ा रोटी रखूं; तू उसे खा, कि जब तू अपना मार्ग ले तब तुझे बल आ जाए।

22. Now, therefore, I pray thee, hearken, thou also, unto the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set before thee a morsel of food, and eat thou, that there may be in thee strength, when thou goest on thy journey.

23. उस ने इनकार करके कहा, मैं न खाऊंगा। परन्तु उसके सेवकों और स्त्री ने मिलकर यहां तक उसे दबाया कि वह उनकी बात मानकर, भूमि पर से उठकर खाट पर बैठ गया।

23. But he refused, and said I will not eat. But, when his servants, and the woman also, strongly urged him, then hearkened he unto their voice, and rose up from the earth, and sat on the bed.

24. स्त्री के घर में तो एक तैयार किया हुआ बछड़ा था, उस ने फुर्ती करके उसे मारा, फिर आटा लेकर गूंधा, और अखमीरी रोटी बनाकर

24. Now, the woman, had a calf fattening, in the shed. So she hastened, and sacrificed it, and took meal, and kneaded, and baked thereof, unleavened cakes;

25. शाऊल और उसके सेवकों के आगे लाई; और उन्हों ने खाया। तब वे उठकर उसी रात चले गए।।

25. and brought near before Saul and before his servants, and they did eat. Then rose they up and departed, the same night.
