1. और दाऊद वहां से चला, और अदुल्लाम की गुफा में पहुंचकर बच गया; और यह सुनकर उसके भाईं, वरन उसके पिता का समस्त घराना वहां उसके पास गया।

1. And David goeth thence, and is escaped unto the cave of Adullam, and his brethren hear, and all the house of his father, and go down unto him thither;

2. और जितने संकट में पड़े थे, और जितने ऋणी थे, और जितने उदास थे, वे एक उसके पास इकट्ठे हुए; और हव उनका प्रधान हुआ। और कोई चार सौ पुरूष उसके साथ हो गए।।

2. and gather themselves unto him do every man in distress, and every man who hath an exactor, and every man bitter in soul, and he is over them for head, and there are with him about four hundred men.

3. वहां से दाऊद ने मोआब के मिसपे को जाकर मोआब के राजा से कहा, मेरे पिता को अपने पास तब तक आकर रहने दो, जब तक कि मैं न जानूं कि परमेश्वर मेरे लिये क्या करेगा।

3. And David goeth thence to Mizpeh of Moab, and saith unto the king of Moab, 'Let, I pray thee, my father and my mother go out with you, till that I know what God doth for me;'

4. और वह उनको मोआब के राजा के सम्मुख ले गया, और जब तक दाऊद उस गढ़ में रहा, तब तक वे उसके पास रहे।

4. and he leadeth them before the king of Moab, and they dwell with him all the days of David's being in the fortress.

5. फिर गाद नाम एक नबी ने दाऊद से कहा, इस गढ़ में मत रह; चल, यहूदा के देश में जा। और दाऊद चलकर हेरेत के बन में गया।।

5. And Gad the prophet saith unto David, 'Thou dost not abide in a fortress, go, and thou hast entered for thee the land of Judah;' and David goeth and entereth the forest of Hareth.

6. तब शाऊल ने सुना कि दाऊद और उसके संगियों का पता लग गया हैं उस समय शाऊल गिबा के ऊंचे स्थान पर, एक झाऊ के पेड़ के तले, हाथ में अपना भाला लिए हुए बैठा था, और उसके कर्मचारी उसके आसपास खड़े थे।

6. And Saul heareth that David hath become known, and the men who [are] with him, and Saul is abiding in Gibeah, under the grove in Ramah, and his spear [is] in his hand, and all his servants standing by him.

7. तब शाऊल अपने कर्मचारियों से जो उसके आसपास खड़े थे कहने लगा, हे बिन्यामीनियों, सुनो; क्या यिशै का पुत्रा तुम सभों को खेत और दाख की बारियां देगा? क्या वह तुम सभों को सह पति और शतपति करेगा?

7. And Saul saith to his servants who are standing by him, 'Hear, I pray you, ye Benjamites; also to all of you doth the son of Jesse give fields and vineyards! all of you he doth appoint heads of thousands and heads of hundreds!

8. तुम सभों ने मेरे विरूद्ध क्यों राजद्रोह की गोष्ठी की है? और जब मेरे पुत्रा ने यिशै के पुत्रा से वाचा बान्धी, तब किसी ने मुझ पर प्रगट नहीं किया; और तुम में से किसी ने मेरे लिये शोकित होकर मुझ पर प्रगट नहीं किया, कि मेरे पुत्रा ने मेरे कर्मचारी को मेरे विरूद्ध ऐसा घात लगाने को उभारा है, जैसा आज के दिन है।

8. for ye have conspired all of you against me, and there is none uncovering mine ear about my son's covenanting with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you grieving for me, and uncovering mine ear, that my son hath raised up my servant against me, to lie in wait as [at] this day.'

9. तब एदोमी दोएग ने, जो शाऊल के सेवकों के ऊपर ठहराया गया था, उत्तर देकर कहा, मैं ने तो यिशै के पुत्रा को नोब में अहीतूब के पुत्रा अहीमेलेक के पास आते देखा,

9. And answer doth Doeg the Edomite, who is set over the servants of Saul, and saith, 'I have seen the son of Jesse coming in to Nob, unto Ahimelech son of Ahitub,

10. और उस ने उसके लिये यहोवा से पूछा, और उसे भोजन वस्तु दी, और पलिश्ती गोलियत की तलवार भी दी।

10. and he asketh for him at Jehovah, and provision hath given to him, and the sword of Goliath the Philistine hath given to him.

11. और राजा ने अहीतूब के पुत्रा अहीमेलेक याजक को और उसके पिता के समस्त घराने को, बुलवा भेजा; और जब वे सब के सब शाऊल राज के पास आए,

11. And the king sendeth to call Ahimelech son of Ahitub, the priest, and all the house of his father, the priests, who [are] in Nob, and they come all of them unto the king;

12. तब शाऊल ने कहा, हे अहीतूब के पुत्रा, सुन, वह बोला, हे प्रभु, क्या आज्ञा?

12. and Saul saith, 'Hear, I pray thee, son of Ahitub;' and he saith, 'Here [am] I, my lord.'

13. शाऊल ने उस से पुछा, क्या कारण है कि तू और यिशै के पुत्रा दोनों ने मेरे विरूद्ध राजद्रोह की गोष्ठी की है? तू ने उसे रोटी और तलवार दी, और उसके लिये परमेश्वर से पूछा भी, जिस से वह मेरे विरूद्ध उठे, और ऐसा घात लगाए जैसा आज के दिन है?

13. And Saul saith unto him, 'Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, by thy giving to him bread and a sword, and to ask for him at God, to rise against me, to lie in wait, as [at] this day?'

14. अहीमेलेक ने राजा को उत्तर देकर कहा, तेरे समस्त कर्मचारियों में दाऊद के तुल्य विश्वासयोग्य कौन है? वह तो राजा का दामाद है, और तेरी राजसभा में उपस्थित हुआ करत, और तेरे परिवार में प्रतिष्ठित है।

14. And Ahimelech answereth the king and saith, 'And who among all thy servants [is] as David -- faithful, and son-in-law of the king, and hath turned aside unto thy council, and is honoured in thy house?

15. क्या मैं ने आज ही उसके लिये परमेश्वर से पूछना आरम्भ किया है? वह मुझ से दूर रहे! राजा न तो अपने दास पर ऐसा कोई दोष लगाए, न मेरे पिता के समस्त घराने पर, क्योंकि तेरा दास इन सब बखेड़ों के विषय कुछ भी नहीं जानता।

15. To-day have I begun to ask for him at God? far be it from me! let not the king lay anything against his servant, against any of the house of my father, for thy servant hath known nothing of all this, less or more.'

16. राजा ने कहा, हे अहीमेलेक, तू और तेरे पिता का समस्त घराना निश्चय मार डाला जाएगा।

16. And the king saith, 'Thou dost surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all the house of thy father.'

17. फिर राजा ने उन पहरूओं से जो उसके आसपास खड़े थे आज्ञा दी, कि मुड़ो और यहोवा के याजकों को मार डालो; क्योंकि उन्हों ने भी दाऊद की सहायता की है, और उसका भागना जानने पर भी मुझ पर प्रगट नहीं किया। परन्तु राजा के सेवक यहोवा के याजकों को मारने के लिये हाथ बढ़ाना न चाहते थे।

17. And the king saith to runners, those standing by him, 'Turn round, and put to death the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also [is] with David, and because they have known that he is fleeing, and have not uncovered mine ear;' and the servants of the king have not been willing to put forth their hand to come against the priests of Jehovah.

18. तब राजा ने दोएग से कहा, तू मुड़कर याजकों को मार डाल। तब एदोमी दोएग ने मुड़कर याजकों को मारा, और उस दिन सनीवाला एपोद पहिने हुए पचासी पुरूषों को घात किया।

18. And the king saith to Doeg, 'Turn round thou, and come against the priests;' and Doeg the Edomite turneth round, and cometh himself against the priests, and putteth to death in that day eighty and five men bearing a linen ephod,

19. और याजकों के नगर नोब को उस ने स्त्रियों- पुरूषों, और बालबच्चों, और दूधपिउवों, और बैलों, गदहों, और भेड़- बकरियों समेत तलवार से मारा।

19. and Nob, the city of the priests, he hath smitten by the mouth of the sword, from man even unto woman, from infant even unto suckling, and ox, and ass, and sheep, by the mouth of the sword.

20. परन्तु अहीतूब के पुत्रा अहीमेलेक का एब्यातार नाम एक पुत्रा बच निकला, और दाऊद के पास भाग गया।

20. And there escapeth one son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, and his name [is] Abiathar, and he fleeth after David,

21. तब एब्यातार ने दाऊद को बताया, कि शाऊल ने यहोवा के याजकों को बध किया है।

21. and Abiathar declareth to David that Saul hath slain the priests of Jehovah.

22. और दाऊद ने एब्यातार से कहा, जिस दिन एदोमी दोएग वहां था, उसी दिन मैं ने जान लिया, कि वह निश्चय शाऊल को बताएगा। तेरे पिता के समस्त घराने के मारे जाने का कारण मैं ही हुआ।

22. And David saith to Abiathar, 'I have known on that day when Doeg the Edomite [is] there, that he doth certainly declare [it] to Saul; I have brought [it] round to every person of the house of thy father;

23. इसलिये तू मेरे साथ निडर रह; जो मेरे प्राण का ग्राहक है वही तेरे प्राण का भी ग्राहक है; परन्तु मेरे साथ रहने से तेरी रक्षा होगी।।

23. dwell with me; fear not; for he who seeketh my life seeketh thy life; for a charge [art] thou with me.'
