1. अब विश्वास आशा की हुई वस्तुओं का निश्चय, और मन देखी वस्तुओं का प्रमाण है।

1. Now faith is the essence of things being hoped, the evidence of things not having been seen.

2. क्योंकि इसी के विषय में प्राचीनों की अच्छी गवाही दी गईं।

2. For by this the elders obtained witness.

3. विश्वास ही से हम जान जाते हैं, कि सारी सृष्टि की रचना परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा हुई है। यह नहीं, कि जो कुछ देखने में आता है, वह देखी हुई वस्तुओं से बना हो।

3. By faith we understand the ages to have been framed by the Word of God, so that the things seen should not come into being out of things that appear.

4. विश्वास की से हाबिल ने कैन से उत्तम बलिदान परमेश्वर के लिये चढ़ाया; और उसी के द्वारा उसके धर्मी होने की गवाही भी दी गई: क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने उस की भेंटों के विषय में गवाही दी; और उसी के द्वारा वह मरने पर भी अब तक बातें करता है।

4. By faith Abel offered a greater sacrifice to God than Cain, by which he obtained witness to be righteous, God testifying over his gifts; and through it, having died, he yet speaks.

5. By faith 'Enoch' was translated so as not to see death, and 'was not found, because God translated him.' For before his translation, he had obtained witness to have been pleasing to God. Gen. 5:24

6. और विश्वास बिना उसे प्रसन्न करना अनहोना है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर के पास आनेवाले को विश्वास करना चाहिए, कि वह है; और अपने खोजनेवालों को प्रतिफल देता है।

6. But without faith it is impossible to please God. For it is right that the one drawing near to God should believe that He is, and that He becomes a rewarder to the ones seeking Him out.

7. Being divinely warned by God about the things not yet having been seen, moved with fear, by faith Noah prepared an ark for the salvation of his house; through which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness according to faith.

9. By faith he resided as a foreigner in a land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint-heirs of the same promise;

10. for he looked forward to a city having the foundations of which the builder and maker is God.

11. विश्वास से सारा ने आप बूढ़ी होने पर भी गर्भ धारण करने की सामर्थ पाई; क्योंकि उस ने प्रतिज्ञा करनेवाले को सच्चा जाना था।

11. Also by faith Sarah herself received power for conceiving seed even beyond the time of age, and gave birth; since she deemed the One having promised to be faithful.

12. Because of this came into being from one man, they who were generated, and these of one having died, seed even 'as the stars of the heaven' in multitude and countless 'as sand by the seaside.' Gen. 22:17

13. These all died by way of faith, not having received the promises, but seeing them from afar, and being persuaded, and having embraced and confessed that they are aliens and tenants on the earth.

14. जो ऐसी ऐसी बातें कहते हैं, वे प्रगट करते हैं, कि स्वदेश की खोज में हैं।

14. For those saying such things make clear that they seek a fatherland.

15. और जिस देश से वे निकल आए थे, यदि उस की सुधि करते तो उन्हें लौट जाने का अवसर था।

15. And truly if they remembered that from which they came out, they had time to return.

16. पर वे एक उत्तम अर्थात् स्वर्गीय देश के अभिलाषी हैं, इसी लिये परमेश्वर उन का परमेश्वर कहलाने में उन से नहीं लजाता, सो उस ने उन के लिये एक नगर तैयार किया है।।

16. But now they stretch forth to a better, that is, a heavenly land. Therefore, God is not ashamed of them, for Him to be called their God; for He prepared a city for them.

19. reckoning that God was able to raise even from the dead; from where indeed he obtained him in a parable.

20. विश्वास ही से इसहाक ने याकूब और एसाव को आनेवाली बातों के विषय मे आशीष दी।

20. By faith concerning things to come Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau.

21. विश्वास ही से याकूब ने मरते समय यूसुफ के दोनों पुत्रों में से एक एक को आशीष दी, और अपनी लाठी के सिरे पर सहारा लेकर दण्डवत किया।

21. By faith when dying, Jacob blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and 'worshiped on the top of his staff.' LXX-47:31

22. When dying, Joseph by faith made mention of the Exodus of the sons of Israel, and he gave orders concerning his bones.

23. Being born, Moses was by faith hidden by his parents three months, because they saw the child was fair; and they did not fear the king's decree.

25. having chosen rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than for a time to have enjoyment of sin;

26. और मसीह के कारण निन्दित होने को मिसर के भण्डार से बड़ा धन समझा: क्योंकि उस की आंखे फल पाने की ओर लगी थीं।

26. having counted the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

27. विश्वास ही से राजा के क्रोध से न डरकर उस ने मिसर को छोड़ दिया, क्योंकि वह अनदेखे को मानों देखता हुआ दृढ़ रहा।

27. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the anger of the king; for he kept on as seeing the Invisible One.

34. quenched the power of fire, escaped the mouths of the sword, acquired power from weakness, became strong in war; made armies of foreigners to yield.

35. स्त्रियों ने अपने मरे हुओं को फिर जीवते पाया; कितने तो मार खाते खाते मर गए; और छुटकारा न चाहा; इसलिये कि उत्तम पुनरूत्थान के भागी हों।

39. And having obtained witness through the faith, these all did not obtain the promise,

40. क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने हमारे लिये पहिले से एक उत्तम बात ठहराई, कि वे हमारे बिना सिद्धता को न पहुंचे।।

40. God having foreseen something better concerning us, that they should not be perfected apart from us.
