8. That is: Not the children of flesh are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted for a seed.

17. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, 'For this very thing I raised you up, so that I might display My power in you, and so that My name might be publicized in all the earth.' Ex. 9:16

18. So, then, to whom He desires, He shows mercy. And to whom He desires, He hardens.

19. You will then say to me, Why does He yet find fault? For who has resisted His will?

20. Yes, rather, O man, who are you answering against God? Shall the thing formed say to the One forming it, Why did You make me like this? Isa. 29:16

21. क्या कुम्हार को मिट्टी पर अधिकार नहीं, कि एक ही लौंदे मे से, एक बरतन आदर के लिये, और दूसरे को अनादर के लिये बनाए? तो इस में कौन सी अचम्भे की बात है?

21. Or does not the potter have authority over the clay, out of the one lump to make one vessel to honor, and one to dishonor? Jer. 18:6

22. कि परमेश्वर ने अपना क्रोध दिखाने और अपनी सामर्थ प्रगट करने की इच्छा से क्रोध के बरतनों की, जो विनाश के लिये तैयार किए गए थे बड़े धीरज से सही।

22. But if God, desiring to demonstrate His wrath, and to make His power known, endured in much long-suffering vessels of wrath having been fitted out for destruction,

23. और दया के बरतनों पर जिन्हें उस ने महिमा के लिये पहिले से तैयार किया, अपने महिमा के धन को प्रगट करने की इच्छा की?

23. and that He make known the riches of His glory on vessels of mercy which He before prepared for glory,

24. अर्थात् हम पर जिन्हें उस ने न केवल यहूदियों में से बरन अन्यजातियों में से भी बुलाया।

24. whom He also called, not only us, of Jews, but also out of nations.

25. जैसा वह होशे की पुस्तक में भी कहता है, कि जो मेरी प्रजा न थी, उन्हें मैं अपनी प्रजा कहूंगा, और जो प्रिया न थी, उसे प्रिया कहूंगा।

26. और ऐसा होगा कि जिस जगह में उन से यह कहा गया था, कि तुम मेरी प्रजा नहीं हो, उसी जगह वे जीवते परमेश्वर की सन्तान कहलाएंगे।

27. और यशायाह इस्त्राएल के विषय में पुकारकर कहता है, कि चाहे इस्त्राएल की सन्तानों की गिनती समुद्र के बालू के बारबर हो, तौभी उन में से थोड़े ही बचेंगे।

27. But Isaiah cries on behalf of Israel, 'If the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant will be saved.'

30. सो हम क्या कहें? यह कि अन्यजातियों ने जो धार्मिकता की खोज नहीं करते थे, धार्मिकता प्राप्त की अर्थात् उस धार्मिकता को जो विश्वास से है।

30. What then shall we say? That the nations not following after righteousness have taken on righteousness, but a righteousness of faith;

31. परन्तु इस्त्राएली; जो धर्म की व्यवस्था की खोज करते हुए उस व्यवस्था तक नहीं पहुंचे।

31. but Israel following after a Law of righteousness did not arrive at a Law of righteousness?

32. किस लिये? इसलिये कि वे विश्वास से नहीं, परन्तु मानों कर्मों से उस की खोज करते थे: उन्हों ने उस ठोकर के पत्थर पर ठोकर खाई।
यशायाह 8:14

32. Why? Because it was not of faith, but as of works of Law. For they stumbled at the Stone-of-stumbling,
