1. अपने राज्य के दूसरे वर्ष में नबूकदनेस्सर ने ऐसा स्वप्न देखा जिस से उसका मन बहुत ही व्याकुल हो गया और उसको नींद न आई।

1. And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams. And his spirit was troubled, and his sleep went from him.

2. तब राजा ने आज्ञा दी, कि ज्योतिषी, तन्त्री, टोनहे और कसदी बुलाए जाएं कि वे राजा को उसका स्वप्त बताएं; सो वे आए और राजा के साम्हने हाजिर हुए।

2. Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the enchanters, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.

3. तब राजा ने उन से कहा, मैं ने एक स्वप्न देखा है, और मेरा मन व्याकुल है कि स्वपन को कैसे समझूं।

3. And the king said to them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.

4. कसदियों ने, राजा से अरामी भाषा में कहा, हे राजा, तू चिरंजीव रहे! अपने दासों को स्वप्न बता, और हम उसका फल बताएंगे।

4. Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Syrian language, O king, live forever. Tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

5. राजा ने कसदियों को उत्तर दिया, मैं यह आज्ञा दे चुका हूं कि यदि तुम फल समेत स्वप्न को न बताओगे तो तुम टुकड़े टुकड़े किए जाओगे, और तुम्हारे घर फुंकवा दिए जाएंगे।

5. The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me. If ye do not make the dream and the interpretation of it known to me, ye shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill.

6. और यदि तुम फल समेत स्वप्न को बता दो तो मुझ से भांति भांति के दान और भारी प्रतिष्ठा पाओगे।

6. But if ye show the dream and the interpretation of it, ye shall receive gifts and rewards and great honor from me. Therefore show the dream and the interpretation of it to me.

7. इसलिये तुम मुझे फल समेत स्वप्न बाताओ। उन्हों ने दूसरी बार कहा, हे राजा स्वप्न तेरे दासों को बताया जाए, और हम उसका फल समझाा देंगे।

7. They answered the second time and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.

8. राजा ने उत्तर दिया, मैं निश्चय जानता हूं कि तुम यह देखकर, कि राजा के मुंह से आज्ञा निकल चुकी है, समय बढ़ाना चाहते हो।

8. The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the thing has gone from me.

9. इसलिये यदि तुम मुझे स्वप्न न बताओ तो तुम्हारे लिये एक ही आज्ञा है। क्योंकि तुम ने गोष्ठी की होगी कि जब तक समय न बदले, तब तक हम राजा के साम्हने झूठी और गपशप की बातें कहा करेंगे। इसलिये तुम मुझे स्वप्न को बताओ, तब मैं जानूंगा कि तुम उसका फल भी समझा सकते हो।

9. But if ye do not make known to me the dream, there is but one law for you, for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me till the time is changed. Therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can show me the interpretation of it.

10. कसदियों ने राजा से कहा, पृथ्वी भर में ऐसा कोई मनुष्य नहीं जो राजा के मन की बात बता सके; और न कोई ऐसा राजा, वा प्रधान, वा हाकिम कभी हुआ है जिस ने किसी ज्योतिषी वा तन्त्री, वा कसदी से ऐसी बात पूछी हो।

10. The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth who can show the king's matter. Inasmuch as no king, lord, or ruler, has asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or Chaldean.

11. जो बात राजा पूछता है, वह अनोखी है, और देवताओं को छोड़कर जिनका निवास मनुष्यों के संग नहीं है, और कोई दूसरा नहीं, जो राजा को यह बता सके।।

11. And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other who can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.

12. इस पर राजा ने झुंझलाकर, और बहुत की क्रोधित होकर, बाबुल के सब पण्डितों के नाश करने की आज्ञा दे दी।

12. For this reason the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

13. सो यह आज्ञा निकली, और पण्डित लोगों का घात होने पर था; और लोग दानिरयेल और उसके संगियों को ढूंढ़ रहे थे कि वे भी घात किए जाएं।

13. So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain. And they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

14. तब दानिरयेल ने, जल्लादों के प्रधान अर्योक से, जो बाबुल के पण्डितों को घात करने के लिये निकला था, सोच विचारकर और बुद्धिमानी के साथ कहा;

14. Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who went forth to kill the wise men of Babylon.

15. और राजा के हाकिम अर्योक से पूछने लगा, यह आज्ञा राजा की ओर से ऐसी उतावली के साथ क्यों निकली? तब अर्योक ने दानिरयेल को इसका भेद बता दिया।

15. He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, Why is the decree so urgent from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

16. और दानिरयेल ने भीतर जाकर राजा से बिनती की, कि उसके लिये कोई समय ठहराया जाए, तो वह महाराज को स्वप्न का फल बता देगा।

16. And Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation.

17. तब दानिरयेल ने अपने घर जाकर, अपने संगी हनन्याह, मीशाएल, और अजर्याह को यह हाल बताकर कहा,

17. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,

18. इस भेद के विषश् में स्वर्ग के परमशॆवर की दया के लिये यह कहकर प्रार्थना करो, कि बाबुल के और सब पण्डितों के संग दानिरयेल और उसके संगी भी नाश न किए जाएं।

18. that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret, that Daniel and his companions should nor perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19. तब वह भेद दानिरयेल को रात के समय दर्शन के द्वारा प्रगट किया गया। सो दानिरयेल ने स्वर्ग के परमेश्वर का यह कहकर धन्यवाद किया,

19. Then the secret was shown to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

20. परमेश्वर का नाम युगानुयुग धन्य है; क्योंकि बुद्धि और पराक्रम उसी के हैं।

20. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are his.

21. समयों और ऋतुओं को वही पलटता है; राजाओं का अस्त और उदय भी वही करता है; बुद्धिमानों को बुद्धि और समझवालों को समझ भी वही देता है;

21. And he changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings, and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding.

22. वही गूढ़ और गुप्त बातों को प्रगट करता है; वह जानता है कि अन्धियारे में क्या है, और उसके संग सदा प्रकाश बना रहता है।

22. He reveals the deep and secret things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

23. हे मेरे पूर्वजों के परमशॆवर, मैं तेरा धन्यवाद और स्तुति करता हूं, क्योंकि तू ने मुझे बुद्धि और शक्ति दी है, और जिस भेद का खुलना हम लोगों न तुझ से मांगे था, उसे तू ने मुझ पर प्रगट किया है, तू ने हम को राजा की बात बताई है।

23. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has now made known to me what we desired of thee, for thou have made known to us the king's matter.

24. तब दानिरयेल ने अर्योक के पास, जिसे राजा ने बाबुल के पण्डितों के नाश करने के लिये ठहराया था, भीतर जाकर कहा, बाबुल के पण्डितों का नाश न कर, मुझे राजा के सम्मुख भीतर ले चल, मैं फल बताऊंगा।।

24. Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him: Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon. Bring me in before the king, and I will show to the king the interpretation.

25. तब अर्योक ने दानिरयेल को राजा के सम्मुख शीघ्र भीतर ले जाकर उस से कहा, यहूदी बंधुओं में से एक पुरूष मुझ को मिला है, जो राजा को स्वप्न का फल बताएगा।

25. Then Arioch brought Daniel in before the king in haste, and said thus to him: I have found a man of the sons of the captivity of Judah, who will make known the interpretation to the king.

26. राजा ने दानिरयेल से, जिसका नाम बेलतशस्सर भी था, पूछा, क्या तुझ में इतनी शक्ति है कि जो स्वप्न मैं ने देखा है, उसे फल समेत मुझे बताए?

26. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are thou able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation of it?

27. दानिरयेल ने राजा का उत्तर दिया, जो भेद राजा पूछता है, वह न तो पण्डित न तन्त्री, न ज्योतिषी, न दूसरे भावी बतानेवाले राजा को बता सकते हैं,

27. Daniel answered before the king, and said, The secret which the king has demanded, neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, can show to the king,

29. हे राजा, जब तुझ को पलंग पर यह विचार हुआ कि भविष्य में क्या क्या होनेवाला है, तब भेदों को खोलनेवाले ने तुझ को बताया, कि क्या क्या होनेवाला है।

29. As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter. And he who reveals secrets has made known to thee what shall come to pass.

30. मुझ पर यह भेद इस कारण नहीं खोला गया कि मैं और सब प्राणियों से अधिक बुद्धिमान हूं, परन्तु केवल इसी कारण खोला गया है कि स्वपन का फल राजा को बताया जाए, और तू अपने मन के विचार समझ सके।।

30. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living man, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that thou may know the thoughts of thy heart.

31. हे राजा, जब तू देख रहा था, तब एक बड़ी मूर्त्ति देख पड़ी, और वह मूर्त्ति जो तेरे साम्हने खड़ी थी, सो लम्बी चौड़ी थी; उसकी चमक अनुपम थी, और उसका रूप भयंकर था।

31. Thou, O king, saw, and, behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee, and the appearance of it was fearful.

32. उस मूर्त्ति का सिर तो चोखे सोने का था, उसकी छाती और भुजाएं चान्दी की, उसका पेट और जांघे पीतल की,

32. As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33. उसकी टांगे लोहे की और उसके पांव कुछ तो लोहे के और कुछ मिट्टी के थे।

33. its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay.

34. फिर देखते देखते, तू ने क्या देखा, कि एक पत्थर ने, बिना किसी के खोदे, आप ही आप उखड़कर उस मूर्त्ति के पांवों पर लगकर जो लोहे और मिट्टी के थे, उनको चूर चूर कर डाला।

34. Thou looked until a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.

35. तब लोहा, मिट्टी, पीतल, चान्दी और सोना भी सब चूर चूर हो गए, और धूपकाल में खलिहानों के भूसे की नाईं हवा से ऐसे उड़ गए कि उनका कहीं पता न रहा; और वह पत्थर जो मूर्त्ति पर लगा था, वह बड़ा पहाड़ बनकर सारी पृथ्वी में फैल गया।।

35. Then the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, was broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors. And the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them. And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36. स्वपन तो यों ही हुआ; और अब हम उसका फल राजा को समझा देते हैं।

36. This is the dream, and we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.

37. हे राजा, तू तो महाराजाधिरा है, क्योंकि स्वर्ग के परमेश्वर ने तुझ को राज्य, सामर्थ, शक्ति और महिमा दी है,

37. Thou, O king, are a king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory.

38. और जहां कहीं मनुष्य पाए जाते हैं, वहां उस ने उन सभों को, और मैदान के जीवजन्तु, और आकाश के पक्षी भी तेरे वश में कर दिए हैं; और तुझ को उन सब का अधिकारी ठहराया है। यह सोने का सिर तू ही है।

38. And wherever the sons of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, he has given into thy hand, and has made thee to rule over them all. Thou are the head of gold.

39. तेरे बाद एक राज्य और उदय होगा जो तुझ से छोटा होगा; फिर एक और तीसरा पीतल का सा राज्य होगा जिस में सारी पृथ्वी आ जाएगी।

39. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40. और चौथा राज्य लोहे के तुल्य मजबूत होगा; लोहे से तो सब वस्तुएं चूर चूर हो जाती और पिस जाती हैं; इसलिये जिस भांति लोहे से वे सब कुचली जाती हैं, उसी भांति, उस चौथे राज्य से सब कुछ चूर चूर होकर पिस जाएगा।

40. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things. And as iron that crushes all these, it shall break in pieces and crush.

41. और तू ने जो मूर्त्ति के पांवों और उनकी उंगलियों को देखा, जो कुछ कुम्हार की मिट्टी की और कुछ लोहे की थीं, इस से वह चौथा राज्य बटा हुआ होगा; तौभी उस में लोहे का सा कड़ापन रहेगा, जैसे कि तू ने कुम्हार की मिट्टी के संग लोहा भी मिला हुआ देखा था।

41. And whereas thou saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom. But there shall be of the strength of the iron in it, inasmuch as thou saw the iron mixed with miry clay.

42. और जैसे पांवों की उंगलियां कुछ तो लोहे की और कुछ मिट्टी की थीं, इसका अर्थ यह है, कि वह राज्य कुछ तो दृढ़ और कुछ निर्बल होगा।

42. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43. और तू ने जो लोहे को कुम्हार की मिट्टी के संग मिला हुआ देखा, इसका अर्थ यह है, कि उस राज्य के लोग एक दूसरे मनुष्यों से मिले जुले तो रहेंगे, परन्तु जैसे लोहा मिट्टी के साथ मेल नहीं खाता, वैसे ही वे भी एक न बने रहेंगे।

43. And whereas thou saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men, but they shall not cling one to another, even as iron does not mix with clay.

44. और उन राजाओं के दिनों में स्वर्ग का परमेश्वर, एक ऐसा राज्य उदय करेगा जो अनन्तकाल तक न टूटेगा, और न वह किसी दूसरी जाति के हाथ में किया जाएगा। वरन वह उन सब राज्यों को चूर चूर करेगा, और उनका अन्त कर डालेगा; और वह सदा स्थिर रहेगा;

44. And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty of it be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

45. जैसा तू ने देखा कि एक पत्थर किसी के हाथ के बिन खोदे पहाड़ में से उखड़ा, और उस ने लोहे, पीतर, मिट्टी, चान्दी, और सोने को चूर चूर किया, इसी रीति महान् परमेश्वर ने राजा को जताया है कि इसके बाद क्या क्या होनेवाला है। न स्वप्न में और न उसके फल में कुछ सन्देह है।।

45. Inasmuch as thou saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

46. इतना सुनकर नबूकदनेस्सर राजा ने मुंह के बल गिरकर दानिरयेल को दण्डवत् की, और आज्ञा दी कि उसको भेंट चढ़ाओ, और उसके साम्हने सुगन्ध वस्तु जलाओ।

46. Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors to him.

47. फिर राजा ने दानिरयेल से कहा, सच तो यह है कि तुम लोगों का परमेश्वर, सब ईश्वरों का ईश्वर, राजाओं का राजा और भेदों का खोलनेवाला है, इसलिये तू यह भेद प्रगट कर पाया।

47. The king answered to Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and LORD of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since thou have been able to reveal this secret.

48. तब राजा ने दानिरयेल का पद बड़ा किया, और उसको बहुत से बड़े बड़े दान दिए; और यह आज्ञा दी कि वह बाबुल के सारे प्रान्त पर हाकिम और बाबुल के सब पण्डितों पर मुख्य प्रधान बने।

48. Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

49. तब दानिरयेल के बिनती करने से राजा ने शद्रक, मेशक, और अबेदनगो को बाबुल के प्रान्त के कार्य के ऊपर नियुक्त कर दिया; परन्तु दानिरयेल आप ही राजा के दरबार में रहा करता था।।

49. And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon, but Daniel was in the gate of the king.
