1. और इस्राएल के प्रधानों के विषय तू यह विलापगीत सुना,

1. Thou. therefore take up a dirge, for the prince of Israel;

2. तेरी माता एक कैसी सिंहनी थी ! वह सिंहों के बीच बैठा करती और अपने बच्चों को जवान सिंहों के बीच पालती पोसती थी।

2. and thou shalt say How was thy mother a lioness, Between lions, she lay down, I n the midst of young lions, She nourished her whelps;

3. अपने बच्चों में से उस ने एक को पाला और वह जवान सिंह हो गया, और अहेर पकडना सीख गया; उस ने मनुष्यों को भी फाड़ खाया।

3. And she reared up one of her whelps A young lion, he became, And he learned to rend prey. Men, he devoured.

4. और जाति जाति के लोगों ने उसकी चर्चा सुनी, और उसे अपने खोदे हुए गड़हे में फंसाया; और उसके नकेल डालकर उसे मिस्र देश में ले गए।

4. Then nations heard of him. In their pit, was he caught, So they brought him with hooks. Into the land of Egypt.

5. जब उसकी मां ने देखा कि वह धीरज धरे रही तौभी उसकी आशा टूट गई, तब अपने एक और बच्चे को लेकर उसे जवान सिंह कर दिया।

5. And she saw she had waited Lost was her hope, Then took she another of her whelps. A young lion, she made him.

6. तब वह जवान सिंह होकर सिंहों के बीच चलने फिरने लगा, और वह भी अहेर पकड़ना सीख गया; और मनुष्यों को भी फाड़ खाया।

6. Yea he went to and fro amidst lions A young lion, he became, And he learned to rend prey. Men, he devoured;

7. और उस ने उनके भवनों को बिगाड़ा, और उनके नगरों को उजाड़ा वरन उसके गरजने के डर के मारे देश और जो कुछ उस में था सब उजड़ गया।

7. And he injured b his widows, And their cities, laid waste, And deserted was the land and its fulness, At the noise of his roaring.

8. तब चारों ओर के जाति जाति के लोग अपने अपने प्रान्त से उसके विरूद्ध निकल आए, और उसके लिये जाल लगाया; और वह उनके खोदे हुए गड़हे में फंस गया।

8. Then set upon him the nations round about. From the provinces, And spread over him their net In their pit, was he caught;

9. तब वे उसके नकेल डालकर और कठघरे में बन्द करके बाबुल के राजा के पास ले गए, और गढ़ में बन्द किया, कि उसका बोल इस्राएल के पहाड़ी देश में फिर सुनाई न दे।

9. And they put him in a cage with hooks, And brought him to Babylon's king, They brought him into strong-holds, That his noise might be heard no more Among the mountains of Israel.

10. तेरी माता जिस से तू अत्पन्न हुआ, वह तीर पर लगी हुई दाखलता के समान थी, और गहिरे जल के कारण फलों और शाखाओं से भरी हुई थी।

10. Thy mother was like a vine of thy vineyard, By waters, was planted, Fruitful and full of branches, she became By reason of waters abundant;

11. और प्रभुता करनेवालों के राजदणडों के लिये उस में मोटी मोटी टहनियां थीं; और उसकी ऊंचाइ्रर् इतनी इई कि वह बादलों के बीच तक पहुंची; और अपनी बहुत सी डालियों समेत बहुत ही लम्बी दिखाई पड़ी।

11. And they served her as staves of power For the sceptres of rulers, And high became the stature thereof With its interwoven foliage, And it was seen by its height, By its multitude of branches.

12. तौभी वह जलजलाहट के साथ उखाड़कर भूमि पर गिराई गई, और उसके फल पुरवाई हवा के लगने से सूख गए; और उसकी मोटी टहनियां टूटकर सूख गई; और वे आग से भस्म हो गई।

12. Then was she uprooted in indignation To the ground, was she east, And an east wind, dried up her fruit, Broken off and withered were her staves of power, A fire, devoured them.

13. अब वह जंगल में, वरन निर्जल देश में लगाई गई है।

13. Now, therefore, is she planted in a desert, -In a land parched and dry;

14. और उसकी शाखाओं की टहनियों में से आग निकली, जिस से उसके फल भस्म हो गए, और प्रभुता करने के योग्य राजदण्ड के लिये उस में अब कोई मोटी टहनी न रही। यही विलापगीत है, और यह विलापगीत बना रहेगा।

14. And there hath gone forth a fire out of her staves of rods. Her fruit, hath it devoured, And there is in her no staff of power. As a sceptre to bear rule. A dirge, it is, and hath been made a dirge.
