1. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, उस समय यहूदा के राजाओं, हाकिमों, याजकों, भविष्यद्वक्ताओं और यरूशलेम के रहनेवालों की हडि्डयां क़ब्रों में से निकालकर,

1. 'And when the time comes'--God's Decree!--'I'll see to it that they dig up the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of the princes and priests and prophets, and yes, even the bones of the common people.

2. सूर्य, चन्द्रमा और आकाश के सारे गणों के साम्हने फैलाई जाएंगी; क्योंकि वे उन्हीं से प्रेम रखते, उन्हीं की सेवा करते, उन्हीं के पीछे चलते, और उन्हीं के पास जाया करते और उन्हीं को दण्डवत् करते थे; और न वे इकट्ठी की जाएंगी न क़ब्र में रखी जाएंगी; वे भूमि के ऊपर खाद के समान पड़ी रहेंगी।

2. They'll dig them up and spread them out like a congregation at worship before sun, moon, and stars, all those sky gods they've been so infatuated with all these years, following their 'lucky stars' in doglike devotion. The bones will be left scattered and exposed, to reenter the soil as fertilizer, like manure.

3. तब इस बुरे कुल के बचे हुए लोग उन सब स्थानों में जिस में मैं ने उन्हें निकाल दिया है, जीवन से मृत्यु ही को अधिक चाहेंगे, सेनाओं के यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

3. 'Everyone left--all from this evil generation unlucky enough to still be alive in whatever godforsaken place I will have driven them to--will wish they were dead.' Decree of GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies.

4. तू उन से यह भी कह, यहोवा यों कहता है कि जब मनुष्य गिरते हैं तो क्या फिर नहीं उठते?

4. 'Tell them this, GOD's Message: ''Do people fall down and not get up? Or take the wrong road and then just keep going?

5. जब कोई। भटक जाता है तो क्या वह लौट नहीं आता? फिर क्या कारण है कि ये यरूशलेमी सदा दूर ही दूर भटकते जाते हैं? ये छल नहीं छोड़ते, और फिर लौटने से इनकार करते हैं।

5. So why does this people go backwards, and just keep on going--backwards! They stubbornly hold on to their illusions, refuse to change direction.

6. मैं ने ध्यान देकर सुना, परन्तु ये ठीक नहीं बोलते; इन में से किसी ने अपनी बुराई से पछताकर नहीं कहा, हाय ! मैं ने यह क्या किया है? जैसा घोड़ा लड़ाई में वेग से दौड़ता है, वैसे ही इन में से हर एक जन अपनी ही दौड़ में दौड़ता है।

6. I listened carefully but heard not so much as a whisper. No one expressed one word of regret. Not a single 'I'm sorry' did I hear. They just kept at it, blindly and stupidly banging their heads against a brick wall.

7. आकाश में लगलग भी अपने नियत समयों को जानता है, और पणडुकी, सूपाबेनी, और सारस भी अपने आने का समय रखते हैं; परन्तु मेरी प्रजा यहोवा का नियम नहीं जानती।

7. Cranes know when it's time to move south for winter. And robins, warblers, and bluebirds know when it's time to come back again. But my people? My people know nothing, not the first thing of GOD and his rule.

8. तुम क्योंकर कह सकते हो कि हम बुध्दिमान हैं, और यहोवा की दी हुई व्यपस्था हमारे साथ है? परन्तु उनके शास्त्रियों ने उसका झूठा विवरण लिखकर उसको झूठ बना दिया है।

8. ''How can you say, 'We know the score. We're the proud owners of GOD's revelation'? Look where it's gotten you--stuck in illusion. Your religion experts have taken you for a ride!

9. बुध्दिमान लज्जित हो गए, वे विस्मित हुए और पकड़े गए; देखो, उन्हों ने यहोवा के वचन को निकम्मा जाना है, उन में बुध्दि कहां रही?

9. Your know-it-alls will be unmasked, caught and shown up for what they are. Look at them! They know everything but GOD's Word. Do you call that 'knowing'?

10. इस कारण मैं उनकी स्त्रियों को दूसरे पुरूषों को और उनके खेत दूसरे अधिकारियों के वश में कर दूंगा, क्योंकि छोटे से लेकर बड़े तक वे सब के सब लालची हैं; क्या भविष्यद्वक्ता क्या याजक, वे सब के छल से काम करते हैं।

10. ''So here's what will happen to the know-it-alls: I'll make them wifeless and homeless. Everyone's after the dishonest dollar, little people and big people alike. Prophets and priests and everyone in-between twist words and doctor truth.

11. उन्हों ने, 'शान्ति है, शान्ति' ऐसा कह कहकर मेरी प्रजा के घाव को ऊपर ही ऊपर चंगा किया, परन्तु शान्ति कुछ भी नहीं है।

11. My dear Daughter--my people--broken, shattered, and yet they put on band-aids, Saying, 'It's not so bad. You'll be just fine.' But things are not 'just fine'!

12. कया वे घृणित काम करके लज्जित हुए? नहीं, वे कुछ भी लज्जित नहीं हुए, वे लज्जित होना जानते ही नहीं। इस कारण जब और लेग नीचे गिरें, तब वे भी गिरेंगे; जब उनके दण्ड का समय आएगा, तब वे भी ठोकर खाकर गिरेंगे, यहोवा का यही वचन है।

12. Do you suppose they are embarrassed over this outrage? Not really. They have no shame. They don't even know how to blush. There's no hope for them. They've hit bottom and there's no getting up. As far as I'm concerned, they're finished.'' GOD has spoken.

13. यहोवा की सह भी वाण्री है, मैं उन सभों का अन्त कर दूंगा। न तो उनकी दाखलताओं में दाख पाई जाएंगी, और न अंजीर के पृक्ष में अंजीर वरन उनके पत्ते भी सूख जाएंगे, और जो कुछ मैं ने उन्हें दिया है वह उनके पास से जाता रहेगा।

13. ''I went out to see if I could salvage anything'' --GOD's Decree-- ''but found nothing: Not a grape, not a fig, just a few withered leaves. I'm taking back everything I gave them.''

14. हम क्यों चुप- चाप बैठे हैं? आओ, हम चलकर गढ़वाले नगरों में इकट्ठे नाश हो जाएं; क्योंकि हमारा परमेश्वर यहोवा हम को नाश करना चाहता है, और हमें विष पीने को दिया है; क्योंकि हम ने यहोवा के विरूद्ध पाप किया है।

14. So why are we sitting here, doing nothing? Let's get organized. Let's go to the big city and at least die fighting. We've gotten GOD's ultimatum: We're damned if we do and damned if we don't-- damned because of our sin against him.

15. हम शान्ति की बाट जोहते थे, परन्तु कुछ कल्याण नहीं मिला, और चंगाई की आशा करते थे, परन्तु घबराना ही पड़ा है।

15. We hoped things would turn out for the best, but it didn't happen that way. We were waiting around for healing-- and terror showed up!

16. उनके घोड़ों का फुर्राना दान से सुन पड़ता है, और बलवन्त घोड़ों के हिनहिनाने के शब्द से सारा देश कांप उठा है। उन्हों ने आकर हमारे देश को और जो कुछ उस में है, और हमारे नगर को निवासियों समेत नाश किया है।

16. From Dan at the northern borders we hear the hooves of horses, Horses galloping, horses neighing. The ground shudders and quakes. They're going to swallow up the whole country. Towns and people alike--fodder for war.

17. क्योंकि देखो, मैं तुम्हारे बीच में ऐसे सांप और नाग भेजूंगा जिन पर मंत्रा न चलेगा, और वे तुम को डसेंगे, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

17. ''What's more, I'm dispatching poisonous snakes among you, Snakes that can't be charmed, snakes that will bite you and kill you.'' GOD's Decree!

18. हाय ! हाय ! इस शोक की दशा में मुझे शान्ति कहां से मिलेगी? मेरा हृदय भीतर ही भीतर तड़पता है !

18. I drown in grief. I'm heartsick.

19. मुझे अपने लोगों की चिल्लाहट दूर के देश से सुनाई देती है : क्या यहोवा सिरयोन में नहीं हैं? क्या उसका राजा उस में नहीं? उन्हों ने क्यों मुझ को अपनी खोदी हुई मूरतों और परदेश की व्यर्थ वस्तुओं के द्वारा क्यों क्रोध दिलाया है?

19. Oh, listen! Please listen! It's the cry of my dear people reverberating through the country. Is GOD no longer in Zion? Has the King gone away? Can you tell me why they flaunt their plaything-gods, their silly, imported no-gods before me?

20. कटनी का समय बीत गया, फल तोड़ने कीतिु भी समाप्त हो गई, और हमारा उठ्ठार नहीं हुआ।

20. The crops are in, the summer is over, but for us nothing's changed. We're still waiting to be rescued.

21. अपने लोगों के दु:ख से मैं भी दु:खित हुआ, मैं शोक का पहिरावा पहिने अति अचम्भे में डूबा हूँ।

21. For my dear broken people, I'm heartbroken. I weep, seized by grief.

22. क्या गिलाद देश में कुछ बलसान की औषधि नहीं? क्या उस में कोई वैद्य नहीं? यदि है, तो मेरे लोगों के घाव क्यों चंगे नहीं हुए?

22. Are there no healing ointments in Gilead? Isn't there a doctor in the house? So why can't something be done to heal and save my dear, dear people?
