1. जो वचन यहोवा की ओर से यिर्मयाह के पास पहुंचा वह यह हैे

1. THE WORD that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,

2. यहोवा के भवन के फाटक में खड़ा हो, और यह वचन प्रचार कर, ओर कह, हे सब यहूदियो, तुम जो यहोवा को दण्डवत् करने के लिये इन फाटकों से प्रवेश करते हो, यहोवा का वचन सुनो।

2. Stand in the gate of the Lord's house and proclaim there this word and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the Lord.

3. सेनाओं का यहोवा जो इस्राएल का परमेश्वर है, यों कहता है, अपनी अपनी चाल और काम सुधारो, तब मैं तुम को इस स्थान में बसे रहने दूंगा।

3. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

4. तुम लोग यह कहकर झूठी बातों पर भरोसा मत रखो, कि यही यहोवा का मन्दिर है; यही यहोवा का मन्दिर, यहोवा का मन्दिर।

4. Trust not in the lying words [of the false prophets who maintain that God will protect Jerusalem because His temple is there], saying, This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.

5. यदि तुम सचमुच अपनी अपनी चाल और काम सुधारो, और सचमुच मनुष्य- मनुष्य के बीच न्याय करो,

5. For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly and truly execute justice between every man and his neighbor,

6. परदेशी और अनाथ और विधवा पर अन्धेर न करो; इस स्थान में निदष की हत्या न करो, और दूसरे देवताओं के पीछे न चलो जिस से तुम्हारी हानि होती है,

6. If you do not oppress the transient and the alien, the fatherless, and the widow or shed innocent blood [by oppression and by judicial murders] in [Jerusalem] or go after other gods to your own hurt,

7. तो मैं तुम को इस नगर में, और इस देश में जो मैं ने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को दिया था, युग युग के लिये रहने दूंगा।

7. Then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers to dwell in forever.

8. देखो, तुम झूठी बातों पर भरोसा रखते हो जिन से कुछ लाभ नहीं हो सकता।

8. Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot benefit [so that you do not profit].

9. तुम जो चोरी, हत्या और व्यभिचार करते, झूठी शपथ खाते, बाल देवता के लिये धूप जलाते, और दूसरे देवताओं के पीछे जिन्हें तुम पहिले नहीं जानते थे चलते हो,

9. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known,

10. तो क्या यह उचित है कि तुम इस भवन में आओ जो मेरा कहलाता है, और मेरे साम्हने खड़े होकर यह कहो कि हम इसलिये छूट गए हैं कि ये सब घृणित काम करें?

10. And [then dare to] come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My Name, and say, [By the discharge of this religious formality] we are set free!--only to go on with this wickedness and these abominations?

11. क्या यह भवन जो मेरा कहलाता है, तुम्हारी दृष्टि में डाकुओं की गुफ़ा हो गया है? मैं ने स्वयं यह देखा है, यहोवा की यह वाणी है।

11. Has this house, which is called by My Name, become a den of robbers in your eyes [a place of retreat for you between acts of violence]? Behold, I Myself have seen it, says the Lord.

12. मेरा जो स्थान शीलो में था, जहां मैं ने पहिले अपने नाम का निवास ठहराया था, वहां जाकर देखो कि मैं ने अपनी प्रजा इस्राएल की बुराई के कारण उसकी क्या दशा कर दी है?

12. But go now to My place which was in Shiloh [in Ephraim], where I set My Name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of My people Israel. [I Sam. 4:10-18.]

13. अब यहोवा की यह वाणी है, कि तुम जो ये सब काम करते आए हो, और यद्यपि मैं तुम से बड़े यत्न से बातें करता रहा हूँ, तौभी तुम ने नहीं सुना, और तुम्हें बुलाता आया परन्तु तुम नहीं बोले,

13. And now, because you have done all these things, says the Lord, and [because] when I spoke to you persistently [even rising up early and speaking], you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer,

14. इसलिये यह भवन जो मेरा कहलाता है, जिस पर तुम भरोसा रखते हो, और यह स्थान जो मैं ने तुम को और तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को दिया था, इसकी दशा मैं शीलोे की सी कर दूंगा।

14. Therefore will I do to this house (the temple), which is called by My Name and in which you trust, to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh.

15. और जैसा मैं ने तुम्हारे सब भाइयों को अर्थात सारे एप्रैमियों को अपने साम्हने से दूर कर दिया है, वैसा ही तुम को भी दूर कर दूंगा।

15. And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole posterity of Ephraim.

16. इस प्रजा के लिये तू प्रार्थना मत कर, न इन लोगों के लिये ऊंचे स्वर से पुकार न मुझ से बिनती कर, क्योंकि मैं तेरी नहीं सुनूंगा।

16. Therefore do not pray for this people [of Judah] or lift up a cry or entreaty for them or make intercession to Me, for I will not listen to or hear you.

17. क्या तू नहीं देखता कि ये लोग यहूदा के नगरों और यरूशलेम की सड़कों में क्या कर रहे हैं?

17. Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18. देख, लड़के बाले तो ईधन बटोरते, बाप आग सुलगाते और स्त्रियां आटा गूंधती हैं, कि स्वर्ग की रानी के लिये रोटियां चढ़ाए; और मुझे क्रोधित करने के लिये दूसरे देवताओं के लिये तपावन दें।

18. The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger!

19. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, क्या वे मुझी को क्रोध दिलाते हैं? क्या वे अपने ही को नहीं जिस से उनके मुंह पर सियाही छाए?

19. Am I the One Whom they provoke to anger? says the Lord. Is it not themselves [whom they provoke], to their own confusion and vexation and to their own shame?

20. सो प्रभु यहोवा ने यों कहा है, क्या मनुष्य, क्या पशु, क्या मैदान के वृक्ष, क्या भूमि की उपज, उन सब पर जो इस स्थान में हैं, मेरे कोप की आग भड़कने पर है; वह नित्य जलती रहेगी और कभी न बुझेगी।

20. Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, My anger and My wrath will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.

21. सेनाओं का यहोवा जो इस्राएल का परमेश्वर है, यों कहता है, अपने मेलबलियों के साथ अपने होमबलि भी चढ़ाओ और मांस खाओ।

21. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat the flesh [if you will. It will avail you nothing].

22. क्योंकि जिस समय मैं ने तुम्हारे पूर्वजों को मिस्र देश में से निकाला, उस समय मैं ने उन्हें होमबलि और मेलबलि के विष्य कुछ आज्ञा न दी थी।

22. For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.

23. परन्तु मैं ने तो उनको यह आज्ञा दी कि मेरे वचन को मानो, तब मैं तुम्हारा परमेश्वर हूंगा, और तुम मेरी प्रजा ठहरोगे; और जिस मार्ग की मैं तुम्हें आज्ञा दूं उसी में चलो, तब तुम्हारा भला होगा।

23. But this thing I did command them: Listen to and obey My voice, and I will be your God and you will be My people; and walk in the whole way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

24. पर उन्हों ने मेरी न सुनी और न मेरी बातों पर कान लगाया; वे अपनी ही युक्तियों और अपने बुरे मन के हठ पर चलते रहे और पीछे हट गए पर आगे न बढ़े।

24. But they would not listen to and obey Me or bend their ear [to Me], but followed the counsels and the stubborn promptings of their own evil hearts and minds, and they turned their backs and went in reverse instead of forward.

25. जिस दिन तुम्हारे पुरखा मिस्र देश से निकले, उस दिन से आज तक मैं तो अपने सारे दासों, भविष्यद्वक्ताओं को, तुम्हारे पास बड़े यत्न से लगातार भेजता रहा;

25. Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent to you all My servants the prophets, sending them daily, early and late.

26. परन्तु उन्हों ने मेरी नहीं सुनी, न अपना कान लगाया; उन्हों ने हठ किया, और अपने पुरखाओं से बढ़कर बुराइयां की हैं।

26. Yet the people would not listen to and obey Me or bend their ears [to Me], but stiffened their necks and behaved worse than their fathers.

27. तू सब बातें उन से कहेगा पर वे तेरी न सुनेंगे; तू उनको बुलाएगा, पर वे न बोलेंगे।

27. Speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to and obey you; also call to them, but they will not answer you.

28. तब तू उन से कह देना, यह वही जाति है जो अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा की नहीं सुनती, और ताड़ना से भी नहीं मानती; सच्चाई नाश हो गई, और उनके मुंह से दूर हो गई है।

28. Yet you shall say to them, This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God or receive instruction and correction and warning; truth and faithfulness have perished and have completely vanished from their mouths.

29. अपने बाल मुंड़ाकर फेंक दे; मुण्डे टीलों पर चढ़कर विलाप का गीत गा, क्योंकि यहोवा ने इस समय के निवासियों पर क्रोध किया और उन्हें निकम्मा जानकर त्याग दिया है।

29. Cut off your hair [your crown, O Jerusalem] and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

30. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, इसका कारण यह है कि यहूदियों ने वह काम किया है, जो मेरी दृष्टि में बुरा है; उन्हों ने उस भवन में जो मेरा कहलाता है, अपनी घृणित वस्तुएं रखकर उसे अशुठ्ठ कर दिया है।

30. For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight, says the Lord; they have set their abominations (extremely disgusting and shamefully vile things) in the house which is called by My Name to defile it.

31. और उन्हों ने हिन्नोमवंशियों की तराई में तोपेत नाम ऊंचे स्थान बनाकर, अपने बेटे- बेटियों को आग में जलाया है; जिसकी आज्ञा मैं ने कभी नहीं दी और न मेरे मन में वह कभी आया।

31. And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of Ben-hinnom [son of Hinnom], to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire [in honor of Molech, the fire god]--which I did not command, nor did it come into My mind or heart. [Lev. 18:21; Josh. 15:8; II Kings 16:2-3; 21:1, 6; Isa. 30:33.]

32. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, इसलिये ऐसे दिन आते हैं कि वह तराई फिर न तो तोपेत की और न हिन्नोमवंशियों की कहलाएगी, वरन घात की तराई कहलाएगी; और तोपेत में इतनी क़ब्रें होंगी कि और स्थान न रहेगा।

32. Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when it shall no more be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben-hinnom [son of Hinnom], but the Valley of Slaughter, for [in bloody warfare] they will bury in Topheth till there is no more room and no place else to bury. [Jer. 19:6.]

33. इसलिये इन लोगों की लोथें आकाश के पक्षियों और पृथ्वी के पशुओं का आहार होंगी, और उनको भगानेवाला कोई न रहेगा।

33. And the dead bodies of this people will be meat for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth, and none will frighten them away.

34. उस समय मैं ऐसा करूंगा कि यहूदा के नगरों और यरूशलेम की सड़कों में न तो हर्ष और आनन्द का शब्द सुन पड़ेगा, और न दुल्हे वा दुल्हिन का; क्योंकि देश उजाड़ ही उजाड़ हो जाएगा।

34. Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a waste.
