1. याके के पुत्रा आगूर के प्रभावशाली वचन।। उस पुरूष ने ईतीएल और उक्काल से यह कहा,

1. The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the burden. The man spoke to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal:

2. निश्चय मैं पशु सरीखा हूं, वरन मनुष्य कहलाने के योग्य भी नहीं; और मनुष्य की समझ मुझ में नहीं है।

2. Surely I am more stupid than any man, and do not have the understanding of a man.

3. न मैं ने बुद्धि प्राप्त की है, और न परमपवित्रा का ज्ञान मुझे मिला है।

3. I have not learned wisdom, nor the knowledge of the Holy One.

4. कौन स्वर्ग में चढ़कर फिर उतर अया? किस ने वायु को अपनी मुट्ठी में बटोर रखा है? किस ने महासागर को अपने वस्त्रा में बान्ध लिया है? किस ने पृथ्वी के सिवनों को ठहराया है? उसका नाम क्या है? और उसके पुत्रा का नाम क्या है? यदि तू जानता हो तो बता!

4. Who has gone up into Heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name? Surely you know.

5. ईश्वर का एक एक वचन ताया हुआ है; वह अपने शरणागतों की ढाल ठहरा है।

5. Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

6. उसके वचनों में कुछ मत बढ़ा, ऐसा न हो कि वह तुझे डांटे और तू झूठा ठहरे।।

6. Do not add to His Words, that He not judge you and you be found a liar.

7. मैं ने तुझ से दो वर मांगे हैं, इसलिये मेरे मरने से पहिले उन्हें मुझे देने से मुंह न मोड़:

7. Two things I have asked of You (Do not withhold them before I die):

8. अर्थात व्यर्थ और झूठी बात मुझ से दूर रख; मुझे न तो निर्धन कर और न धनी बना; प्रतिदिन की रोटी मुझे खिलाया कर।

8. Remove far from me vanity and lying words; give me neither poverty or riches, provide for me my prescribed portion of food;

9. ऐसा न हो, कि जब मेरा पेट भर जाए, तब मैं इन्कार करके कहूं कि यहोवा कौन है? वा अपना भाग खोकर चोरी करूं, और अपने परमेश्वर का नाम अनुचित रीति से लूं।

9. lest I be full and deny You and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

10. किसी दास की, उसके स्वामी से चुगली न करना, ऐसा न हो कि वह तुझे शाप दे, और तू दोषी ठहराया जाए।।

10. Do not accuse a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.

11. ऐसे लोग हैं, जो अपने पिता को शाप देते और अपनी माता को धन्य नहीं कहते।

11. There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

12. ऐसे लोग हैं जो अपनी दृष्टि में शुद्ध हैं, तौभी उनका मैल धोया नहीं गया।

12. There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, and yet is not washed from its excrement.

13. एक पीढ़ी के लोग ऐसे हैं उनकी दृष्टि क्या ही घमण्ड से भरी रहती है, और उनकी आंखें कैसी चढ़ी हुई रहती हैं।

13. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.

14. एक पीढ़ी के लोग ऐसे हैं, जिनके दांत तलवार और उनकी दाढ़ें छुरियां हैं, जिन से वे दीन लोगों को पृथ्वी पर से, और दरिद्रों को मनुष्यों में से मिटा डालें।।

14. There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaw teeth like knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

15. जैसे जोंक की दो बेछियां होती हैं, जो कहती हैं दे, दे, वैसे ही तीन वस्तुएं हैं, जो तृप्त नहीं होतीं; वरन चार हैं, जो कभी नहीं कहतीं, बस।

15. The leech has two daughters, crying, Give, give! Three things are never satisfied, yea, four things never say, Enough!

16. अधोलोक और बांझ की कोख, भूमि जो जल पी पीकर तृप्त नहीं होती, और आग जो कभी नहीं कहती, बस।।

16. Sheol, and the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire; these have not said, Enough!

17. जिस आंख से कोई अपने पिता पर अनादर की दृष्टि करे, और अपमान के साथ अपनी माता की आज्ञा न माने, उस आंख को तराई के कौवे खोद खोदकर निकालेंगे, और उकाब के बच्चे खा डालेंगे।।

17. The eye that mocks his father and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

18. तीन बातें मेरे लिये अधिक कठिन है, वरन चार हैं, जो मेरी समझ से परे हैं:

18. Three things are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I do not know:

19. आकाश में उकाब पक्षी का मार्ग, चट्टान पर सर्प की चाल, समुद्र में जहाज की चाल, और कन्या के संग पुरूष की चाल।।

19. The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a virgin.

20. व्यभिचारिणी की चाल भी वैसी ही है; वह भोजन करके मुंह पोंछती, और कहती है, मैं ने कोई अनर्थ काम नहीं किया।।

20. This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

21. तीन बातों के कारण पृथ्वी कांपती है; वरन चार है, जो उस से सही नहीं जातीं:

21. Under three things the earth quakes, and under four it is not able to bear up:

22. दास का राजा हो जाना, मूढ़ का पेट भरना

22. For a servant when he reigns, a fool when he is filled with food,

23. घिनौनी स्त्री का ब्याहा जाना, और दासी का अपनी स्वामिन की वारिस होना।।

23. a hateful woman when she is married, and a maidservant that is heir to her mistress.

24. पृथ्वी पर चार छोटे जन्तु हैं, जो अत्यन्त बुद्धिमान हैं:

24. Four things are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:

25. च्यूटियां निर्बल जाति तो हैं, परन्तु धूपकाल में अपनी भोजनवस्तु बटोरती हैं;

25. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

26. शापान बली जाति नहीं, तौभी उनकी मान्दें पहाड़ों पर होती हैं;

26. the hyrax are not a mighty people, yet they make their dwellings in the crags;

27. टिडि्डयों के राजा तो नहीं होता, तौभी वे सब की सब दल बान्ध बान्धकर पयान करती हैं;

27. the locusts have no king, yet all of them go forth in swarms;

28. और छिपकली हाथ से पकड़ी तो जाती है, तौभी राजभवनों में रहती है।।

28. you can catch a lizard with the hands, yet it is in king's palaces.

29. तीन सुन्दर चलनेवाले प्राणी हैं; वरन चार हैं, जिन की चाल सुन्दर है:

29. There are three things that are beautiful in their stride, yea, four that go right along:

30. सिंह जो सब पशुओं में पराक्रमी हैं, और किसी के डर से नहीं हटता;

30. The lion is mighty among beasts and does not turn back from the face of anything;

31. शिकारी कुत्ता और बकरा, और अपनी सेना समेत राजा।

31. one girded in the loins; and a he goat; and a king with his army.

32. यदि तू ने अपनी बढ़ाई करने की मूढ़ता की, वा कोई बुरी युक्ति बान्धी हो, तो अपने मुंह पर हाथ धर।

32. If you have done foolishly in exalting yourself, or if you have devised evil, lay your hand over your mouth.

33. क्योंकि जैसे दूध के मथने से मक्खन और नाक के मरोड़ने से लोहू निकलता है, वैसे ही क्रोध के भड़काने से झगड़ा उत्पन्न होता है।।

33. Surely the churning of milk yields butter, and the squeezing of the nose brings forth blood; so the wringing of wrath brings forth strife.
