1. मन की युक्ति मनुष्य के वश में रहती है, परन्तु मुंह से कहना यहोवा की ओर से होता है।

1. Of man [are] arrangements of the heart, And from Jehovah an answer of the tongue.

2. मनुष्य का सारा चालचलन अपनी दृष्टि में पवित्रा ठहरता है, परन्तु यहोवा मन को तौलता है।

2. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, And Jehovah is pondering the spirits.

3. अपने कामों को यहोवा पर डाल दे, इस से तेरी कल्पनाएं सिद्ध होंगी।

3. Roll unto Jehovah thy works, And established are thy purposes,

4. यहोवा ने सब वस्तुएं विशेष उ :श्य के लिये बनाई हैं, वरन दुष्ट को भी विपत्ति भोगने के लिये बनाया है।

4. All things hath Jehovah wrought for Himself, And also the wicked [worketh] for a day of evil.

5. सब मन के घमण्डियों से यहोवा घृणा करता है करता है; मैं दृढ़ता से कहता हूं, ऐसे लोग निर्दोष न ठहरेंगे।

5. An abomination to Jehovah [is] every proud one of heart, Hand to hand he is not acquitted.

6. अधर्म का प्रायश्चित कृपा, और सच्चाई से होता है, और यहोवा के भय मानने के द्वारा मनुष्य बुराई करने से बच जाते हैं।

6. In kindness and truth pardoned is iniquity, And in the fear of Jehovah Turn thou aside from evil.

7. जब किसी का चालचलन यहोवा को भवता है, तब वह उसके शत्रुओं का भी उस से मेल कराता है।

7. When a man's ways please Jehovah, even his enemies, He causeth to be at peace with him.

8. अन्याय के बड़े लाभ से, न्याय से थोड़ा ही प्राप्त करना उत्तम है।

8. Better [is] a little with righteousness, Than abundance of increase without justice.

9. मनुष्य मन में अपने मार्ग पर विचार करता है, परन्तु यहोवा ही उसके पैरों को स्थिर करता है।

9. The heart of man deviseth his way, And Jehovah establisheth his step.

10. राजा के मुंह से दैवीवाणी निकलती है, न्याय करने में उस से चूक नहीं होती।

10. An oath [is] on the lips of a king, In judgment his mouth trespasseth not.

11. सच्चा तराजू और पलड़े यहोवा की ओर से होते हैं, थैली में जितने बटखरे हैं, सब उसी के बनवाए हुए हैं।

11. A just beam and balances [are] Jehovah's, His work [are] all the stones of the bag.

12. दुष्टता करना राजाओं के लिये घृणित काम है, क्योंकि उनकी गद्दी धर्म ही से स्थिर रहती है।

12. An abomination to kings [is] doing wickedness, For by righteousness is a throne established.

13. धर्म की बात बोलनेवालों से राजा प्रसन्न होता है, और जो सीधी बातें बोलता है, उस से वह प्रेम रखता है।

13. The delight of kings [are] righteous lips, And whoso is speaking uprightly he loveth,

14. राजा का क्रोध मृत्यु के दूत के समान है, परन्तु बुद्धिमान मनुष्य उसको ठण्डा करता है।

14. The fury of a king [is] messengers of death, And a wise man pacifieth it.

15. राजा के मुख की चमक में जीवन रहता है, और उसकी प्रसन्नता बरसात के अन्त की घटा के समान होती है।

15. In the light of a king's face [is] life, And his good-will [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.

16. बुद्धि की प्राप्ति चोखे सोने से क्या ही उत्तम है! और समझ की प्राप्ति चान्दी से अति योग्य है।

16. To get wisdom -- how much better than gold, And to get understanding to be chosen than silver!

17. बुराई से हटना सीधे लोगों के लिये राजमार्ग है, जो अपने चालचलन की चौकसी करता, वह अपने प्राण की भी रक्षा करता है।

17. A highway of the upright [is], 'Turn from evil,' Whoso is preserving his soul is watching his way.

18. विनाश से पहिले गर्व, और ठोकर खाने से पहिले घमण्ड होता है।

18. Before destruction [is] pride, And before stumbling -- a haughty spirit.'

19. घमण्डियों के संग लूट बांट लने से, दीन लोगों के संग नम्र भाव से रहना उत्तम है।

19. Better is humility of spirit with the poor, Than to apportion spoil with the proud.

20. जो वचन पर मन लगाता, वह कल्याण पाता है, और जो यहोवा पर भरोसा रखता, वह धन्य होता है।

20. The wise in any matter findeth good, And whoso is trusting in Jehovah, O his happiness.

21. जिसके हृदय में बुद्धि है, वह समझवाला कहलाता है, और मधुर वाणी के द्वारा ज्ञान बढ़ता है।

21. To the wise in heart is called, 'Intelligent,' And sweetness of lips increaseth learning.

22. जिसके बुद्धि है, उसके लिये वह जीवन का सोता है, परन्तु मूढ़ों को शिक्षा देना मूढ़ता ही होती है।

22. A fountain of life [is] understanding to its possessors, The instruction of fools is folly.

23. बुद्धिमान का मन उसके मुंह पर भी बुद्धिमानी प्रगट करता है, और उसके वचन में विद्या रहती है।

23. The heart of the wise causeth his mouth to act wisely, And by his lips he increaseth learning,

24. मनभावने वचन मधुभरे छते की नाईं प्राणों को मीठे लगते, और हडि्डयों को हरी- भरी करते हैं।

24. Sayings of pleasantness [are] a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and healing to the bone.

25. ऐसा भी मार्ग है, जो मनुष्य को सीधा देख पड़ता है, परन्तु उसके अन्त में मृत्यु ही मिलती है।

25. There is a way right before a man, And its latter end -- ways of death.

26. परिश्रमी की लालसा उसके लिये परिश्रम करती है, उसकी भूख तो उसको उभारती रहती है।

26. A labouring man hath laboured for himself, For his mouth hath caused [him] to bend over it.

27. अधर्मी मनुष्य बुराई की युक्ति निकालता है, और उसके वचनों से आग लगा जाती है।

27. A worthless man is preparing evil, And on his lips -- as a burning fire.

28. टेढ़ा मनुष्य बहुत झगड़े को उठाता है, और कानाफूसी करनेवाला परम मित्रों में भी फूट करा देता है।

28. A froward man sendeth forth contention, A tale-bearer is separating a familiar friend.

29. उपद्रवी मनुष्य अपने पड़ोसी को फुसलाकर कुमार्ग पर चलाता है।

29. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, And hath causeth him to go in a way not good.

30. आंख मूंदनेवाला छल की कल्पनाएं करता है, और ओंठ दबानेवाला बुराई करता है।

30. Consulting his eyes to devise froward things, Moving his lips he hath accomplished evil.

31. पक्के बाल शोभायमान मुकुट ठहरते हैं; वे धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने से प्राप्त होते हैं।

31. A crown of beauty [are] grey hairs, In the way of righteousness it is found.

32. विलम्ब से क्रोध करना वीरता से, और अपने मन को वश में रखना, नगर के जीत लेने से उत्तम है।

32. Better [is] the slow to anger than the mighty, And the ruler over his spirit than he who is taking a city.

33. चिट्ठी डाली जाती तो है, परन्तु उसका निकलना यहोवा ही की ओर से होता है।

33. Into the centre is the lot cast, And from Jehovah [is] all its judgment!
