1. मन की युक्ति मनुष्य के वश में रहती है, परन्तु मुंह से कहना यहोवा की ओर से होता है।

1. The preparations of the heart belong to man, and the answer of the tongue, [is] from the LORD.

2. मनुष्य का सारा चालचलन अपनी दृष्टि में पवित्रा ठहरता है, परन्तु यहोवा मन को तौलता है।

2. All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

3. अपने कामों को यहोवा पर डाल दे, इस से तेरी कल्पनाएं सिद्ध होंगी।

3. Commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4. यहोवा ने सब वस्तुएं विशेष उ :श्य के लिये बनाई हैं, वरन दुष्ट को भी विपत्ति भोगने के लिये बनाया है।

4. The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5. सब मन के घमण्डियों से यहोवा घृणा करता है करता है; मैं दृढ़ता से कहता हूं, ऐसे लोग निर्दोष न ठहरेंगे।

5. Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

6. अधर्म का प्रायश्चित कृपा, और सच्चाई से होता है, और यहोवा के भय मानने के द्वारा मनुष्य बुराई करने से बच जाते हैं।

6. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.

7. जब किसी का चालचलन यहोवा को भवता है, तब वह उसके शत्रुओं का भी उस से मेल कराता है।

7. When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8. अन्याय के बड़े लाभ से, न्याय से थोड़ा ही प्राप्त करना उत्तम है।

8. Better [is] a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

9. मनुष्य मन में अपने मार्ग पर विचार करता है, परन्तु यहोवा ही उसके पैरों को स्थिर करता है।

9. A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

10. राजा के मुंह से दैवीवाणी निकलती है, न्याय करने में उस से चूक नहीं होती।

10. A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.

11. सच्चा तराजू और पलड़े यहोवा की ओर से होते हैं, थैली में जितने बटखरे हैं, सब उसी के बनवाए हुए हैं।

11. A just weight and balance [are] the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.

12. दुष्टता करना राजाओं के लिये घृणित काम है, क्योंकि उनकी गद्दी धर्म ही से स्थिर रहती है।

12. [It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

13. धर्म की बात बोलनेवालों से राजा प्रसन्न होता है, और जो सीधी बातें बोलता है, उस से वह प्रेम रखता है।

13. Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

14. राजा का क्रोध मृत्यु के दूत के समान है, परन्तु बुद्धिमान मनुष्य उसको ठण्डा करता है।

14. The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

15. राजा के मुख की चमक में जीवन रहता है, और उसकी प्रसन्नता बरसात के अन्त की घटा के समान होती है।

15. In the light of a king's countenance [is] life; and his favour [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.

16. बुद्धि की प्राप्ति चोखे सोने से क्या ही उत्तम है! और समझ की प्राप्ति चान्दी से अति योग्य है।

16. How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

17. बुराई से हटना सीधे लोगों के लिये राजमार्ग है, जो अपने चालचलन की चौकसी करता, वह अपने प्राण की भी रक्षा करता है।

17. The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

18. विनाश से पहिले गर्व, और ठोकर खाने से पहिले घमण्ड होता है।

18. Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

19. घमण्डियों के संग लूट बांट लने से, दीन लोगों के संग नम्र भाव से रहना उत्तम है।

19. Better [it is to be] of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20. जो वचन पर मन लगाता, वह कल्याण पाता है, और जो यहोवा पर भरोसा रखता, वह धन्य होता है।

20. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.

21. जिसके हृदय में बुद्धि है, वह समझवाला कहलाता है, और मधुर वाणी के द्वारा ज्ञान बढ़ता है।

21. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22. जिसके बुद्धि है, उसके लिये वह जीवन का सोता है, परन्तु मूढ़ों को शिक्षा देना मूढ़ता ही होती है।

22. Understanding [is] a wellspring of life to him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.

23. बुद्धिमान का मन उसके मुंह पर भी बुद्धिमानी प्रगट करता है, और उसके वचन में विद्या रहती है।

23. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

24. मनभावने वचन मधुभरे छते की नाईं प्राणों को मीठे लगते, और हडि्डयों को हरी- भरी करते हैं।

24. Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25. ऐसा भी मार्ग है, जो मनुष्य को सीधा देख पड़ता है, परन्तु उसके अन्त में मृत्यु ही मिलती है।

25. There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [is] the way of death.

26. परिश्रमी की लालसा उसके लिये परिश्रम करती है, उसकी भूख तो उसको उभारती रहती है।

26. He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

27. अधर्मी मनुष्य बुराई की युक्ति निकालता है, और उसके वचनों से आग लगा जाती है।

27. An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.

28. टेढ़ा मनुष्य बहुत झगड़े को उठाता है, और कानाफूसी करनेवाला परम मित्रों में भी फूट करा देता है।

28. A perverse man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

29. उपद्रवी मनुष्य अपने पड़ोसी को फुसलाकर कुमार्ग पर चलाता है।

29. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.

30. आंख मूंदनेवाला छल की कल्पनाएं करता है, और ओंठ दबानेवाला बुराई करता है।

30. He shutteth his eyes to devise perverse things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

31. पक्के बाल शोभायमान मुकुट ठहरते हैं; वे धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने से प्राप्त होते हैं।

31. The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it is found in the way of righteousness.

32. विलम्ब से क्रोध करना वीरता से, और अपने मन को वश में रखना, नगर के जीत लेने से उत्तम है।

32. [He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

33. चिट्ठी डाली जाती तो है, परन्तु उसका निकलना यहोवा ही की ओर से होता है।

33. The lot is cast into the lap; but its whole disposing [is] from the LORD.
