1. बाबुल की नहरों के किनारे हम लोग बैठ गए, और सिरयोन को स्मरण करके रो पड़े!

1. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.

2. उसके बीच के मजनू वर्क्षों पर हम ने अपनी वीणाओं को टांग दिया;

2. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3. क्योंकि जो हम को बन्धुए करके ले गए थे, उन्हों ने वहां हम से गीत गवाना चाहा, और हमारे रूलानेवलों ने हम से आनन्द चाहकर कहा, सिरयोन के गीतों में से हमारे लिये कोई गीत गाओ!

3. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that made us wail [required] mirth, [saying,] Sing us [one] of the songs of Zion.

4. हम यहोवा के गीत को, पराए देश में क्योंकर गाएं?

4. How should we sing a song of Jehovah's upon a foreign soil?

5. हे यरूशलेम, यदि मैं तुझे भूल जाऊं, तो मेरा दहिना हाथ झूठा हो जाए!

5. If I forget thee, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget [its skill];

6. यदि मैं तुझे स्मरण न रखूं, यदि मैं यरूशलेम को अपने सब आनन्द से श्रेष्ठ न जानूं, तो मेरी जीभ तालू से चिपट जाए!

6. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to my palate: if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7. हे यहोवा, यरूशलेम के दिन को एदोमियों के विरूद्ध स्मरण कर, कि वे क्योंकर कहते थे, ढाओ! उसको नेव से ढा दो।

7. Remember, O Jehovah, against the sons of Edom, the day of Jerusalem; who said, Lay [it] bare, Lay [it] bare, down to its foundation!

8. हे बाबुल तू जो उजड़नेवाली है, क्या ही धन्य वह होगा, जो तुझ से ऐसा बर्ताव करेगा जैसा तू ने हम से किया है!
