1. Then answered Eliphas the Themanite, and sayde:

2. क्या बुध्दिमान को उचित है कि अज्ञानता के साथ उत्तर दे, वा उपने अन्तेकरण को पूरबी पवन से भरे?

2. Shulde a wyse man geue soch an answere (as it were one that spake in the wynde) and fyll his stomacke with anger?

3. क्या वह निष्फल वचनों से, वा व्यर्थ बातों से वादविवाद करे?

3. Thou reprouest wt wordes, that are nothinge wroth: and speakest the thinges, which can do no good.

4. वरन तू भय मानना छोड़ देता, और ईश्वर का ध्यान करना औरों से छुड़ाता है।

4. As for shame, thou hast set it asyde, els woldest thou not make so many wordes before God:

5. तू अपने मुंह से अपना अधर्म प्रगट करता है, और धूर्त्त लोगों के बोलने की रीति पर बोलता है।

5. but thy wickednesse teacheth thy mouth, and so thou hast chosen the a craftie tonge.

6. मैं तो नहीं परन्तु तेरा मुंह ही तुझे दोषी ठहराता है; और तेरे ही वचन तेरे विरूद्ध साक्षी देते हैं।

6. Thine owne mouth condemneth the, and not I: yee thine owne lippes shappe the an answere.

7. क्या पहिला मतुष्य तू ही उत्पन्न हुआ? क्या तेरी उत्पत्ति पहाड़ों से भी पहिले हुई?

7. Art thou the first man, that euer was borne? Or, wast thou made before the hylles?

8. क्या तू ईश्वर की सभा में बैठा सुनता था? क्या बुध्दि का ठीका तू ही ने ले रखा है?

8. hast thou herde the secrete councell of God, that all wy?dome is to litle for ye?

9. तू ऐसा क्या जानता है जिसे हम नहीं जानते? तुझ में ऐसी कौन सी समझ है जो हम में नहीं?

9. What knowest thou, yt we knowe not? What vnderstondest thou, but we can the same?

10. हम लोगों में तो पक्के बालवाले और अति पुरनिये मनुष्य हैं, जो तेरे पिता से भी बहुत आयु के हैं।

10. With vs are olde and aged men, yee soch as haue lyued longer then thy forefathers.

11. ईश्वर की शान्तिदायक बातें, और जो वचन तेरे लिये कोमल हैं, क्या ये तेरी दृष्टि में तुच्छ हैं?

11. Dost thou nomore regarde the comforte of God? but thy wicked wordes wil not suffre the.

12. तेरा मन क्यों तुझे खींच ले जाता है? और तू आंख से क्यों सैन करता है?

12. Why doth thine herte make the so proude? Why stondest thou so greatly in thine owne conceate? Where vnto loke thine eyes,

13. तू भी अपनी आत्मा ईश्वर के विरूद्ध करता है, और अपने मुंह से व्यर्थ बातें निकलने देता है।

13. yt thy mynde is so puft vp agaynst God & lettest soch wordes go out of thy mouth?

14. मनुष्य है क्या कि वह निष्कलंक हो? और जो स्त्री से उत्पन्न हुआ वह है क्या कि निदष हो सके?

14. What is man, that he shulde be vncleane? what hath he (which is borne of a woman) wherby he might be knowne to be rightuous?

15. देख, वह अपने पवित्रों पर भी विश्वास नहीं करता, और स्वर्ग भी उसकी दृष्टि में निर्मल नहीं है।

15. Beholde, he hath founde vnfaithfulnesse amoge his owne sanctes: yee the very heauens are vnclene in his sight.

16. फिर मनुष्य अधिक घिनौना और मलीन है जो कुटिलता को पानी की नाई पीता है।

16. How moch more then an abhominable and vyle ma, which dryncketh wickednesse like water?

17. मैं तुझे समझा दूंगा, इसलिये मेरी सुन ले, जो मैं ने देखा है, उसी का वर्णन मैं करता हूँ।

17. I will tell the, heare me: I wil shewe the a thinge, that I knowe:

18. (वे ही बातें जो बुध्दिमानों ने अपने पुरखाओं से सुनकर बिना छिपाए बताया है।

18. which wyse men haue tolde, & hath not bene hyd from their fathers:

19. केवल उन्हीं को देश दिया गया था, और उनके मध्य में कोई विदेशी आता जाता नहीं था।)

19. vnto whom only the londe was geuen, that no straunger shulde come amonge them.

20. दुष्ट जन जीवन भर पीड़ा से तड़पता है, और बलात्कारी के वष की गिनती ठहराई हुई है।

20. The vngodly despayreth all the dayes of his life, & the nombre of a tyrauntes yeares is vnknowne.

21. उसके कान में डरावना शब्द गूंजता रहता है, कुशल के समय भी नाशक उस पर आ पड़ता है।

21. A fearfull sounde is euer in his eares, & when it is peace, yet feareth he destruccion:

22. उसे अन्ध्यिारे में से फिर निकलने की कुछ आशा नहीं होती, और तलवार उसकी घात में रहती है।

22. He beleueth neuer to be delyuered out of darcknesse, the swearde is allwaye before his eyes.

23. वह रोटी के लिये मारा मारा फिरता है, कि कहां मिलेगी। उसे निश्चय रहता है, कि अन्धकार का दिन मेरे पास ही है।

23. When he goeth forth to get his lyuinge, he thinketh planely, that the daye of darcknesse is at honde.

24. संकट और दुर्घटना से असको डर लगता रहता है, ऐसे राजा की नाई जो युठ्ठ के लिये तैयार हो, वे उस पर प्रबल होते हैं।

24. Sorow and carefulnesse make him afrayed, & copasse him rounde aboute, like as it were a kinge with his hoost redy to the battayll.

25. उस ने तो ईश्वर के विरूद्ध हाथ बढ़ाया है, और सर्वशक्तिमान के विरूद्ध वह ताल ठोंकता है,

25. For he hath stretched out his honde agaynst God, & armed himself agaynst ye Allmightie.

26. और सिर उठाकर और अपनी मोटी मोटी ढालें दिखाता हुआ घमणड से उस पर धावा करता है;

26. He runneth proudly vpon him, & with a stiff necke fighteth he agaynst him:

27. इसलिये कि उसके मुंह पर चिकनाई छा गई है, और उसकी कमर में चब जमी है।

27. where as he couereth his face with fatnesse, and maketh his body well lykynge.

28. और वह उजाड़े हुए नगरों में बस गया है, और जो घर रहने योग्य नहीं, और खणडहर होने को छोड़े गए हैं, उन में बस गया है।

28. Therfore shall his dwellynge be in desolate cities, & in houses which no ma inhabiteth, but are become heapes of stones.

29. वह धनी न रहेगा, और न उसकी सम्पत्ति बनी रहेगी, और ऐसे लोगों के खेत की उपज भूमि की ओर न भुकने पाएगी।

29. He shall not be rich, nether shall his substaunce continue, ner encrease vpon earth.

30. वह अन्धियारे से कभी न निकलेगा, और उसकी डालियां आग की लपट से झुलस जाएंगी, और ईश्वर के मुंह की श्वास से वह उड़ जाएगा।

30. He shal neuer come out of darcknesse, the flame shal drye vp his braunches, with ye blast of the mouth of God shal he be take awaie.

31. वह अपने को धोखा देकर व्यर्थ बातों का भरोसा न करे, क्योंकि उसका बदला धोखा ही होगा।

31. He wil nether applye himself to faithfulnes ner treuth, so sore is he disceaued wt vanite.

32. वह उसके नियत दिन से पहिले पूरा हो जाएगा; उसकी डालियां हरी न रहेंगी।

32. He shall perish, afore his tyme be worne out, and his honde shal not be grene.

33. दाख की नाई उसके कच्चे फल झड़ जाएंगे, और उसके फूल जलपाई के वृक्ष के से गिरेंगे।

33. He shalbe pluckte of as an vntymely grape from ye vyne, and shal let his floure fall, as the olyue doth.

34. क्योंकि भक्तिहीन के परिवार से कुछ बन न पड़ेगा, और जो घूस लेते हैं, उनके तम्बू आग से जल जाएंगे।

34. For the congregacion of Ypocrites is vnfrutefull, & the fyre shal consume the houses of soch, as are gredy to receaue giftes.

35. उनके उपद्रव का पेट रहता, और अनर्थ उत्पन्न होता हैे और वे अपने अन्तेकरण में छल की बातें गढ़ते हैं।

35. He conceaueth trauayle, he beareth myschefe, & his body bryngeth forth disceate.
