1. सुनो, मैं यह सब कुछ अपनी आंख से देख चुका, और अपने कान से सुन चुका, और समझ भी चुका हूँ।

1. Lo, all -- hath mine eye seen, Heard hath mine ear, and it attendeth to it.

2. जो कुछ तुम जानते हो वह मैं भी जानता हूँ; मैं तुम लोगों से कुछ कम नहीं हूँ।

2. According to your knowledge I have known -- also I. I am not fallen more than you.

3. मैं तो सर्वशक्तिमान से बातें करूंगा, और मेरी अभिलाषा ईश्वर से वादविवाद करने की है।

3. Yet I for the Mighty One do speak, And to argue for God I delight.

4. परन्तु तुम लोग झूठी बात के गढ़नेवाले हो; तुम सबके सब निकम्मे वैद्य हो।

4. And yet, ye [are] forgers of falsehood, Physicians of nought -- all of you,

5. भला होता, कि तुम बिलकुल चुप रहते, और इस से तुम बुध्दिमान ठहरते।

5. O that ye would keep perfectly silent, And it would be to you for wisdom.

6. मेरा विवाद सुनो, और मेरी बहस की बातों पर कान लगाओ।

6. Hear, I pray you, my argument, And to the pleadings of my lips attend,

7. क्या तुम ईश्वर के निमित्त टेढ़ी बातें कहोगे, और उसके पक्ष में कपट से बोलोगे?

7. For God do ye speak perverseness? And for Him do ye speak deceit?

8. क्या तुम उसका पक्षपात करोगे? और ईश्वर के लिये मुक मा चलाओगे।

8. His face do ye accept, if for God ye strive?

9. क्या यह भला होगा, कि वह तुम को जांचे? क्या जैसा कोई मनुष्य को धोखा दे, वैसा ही तुम क्या उसको भी धेखा दोगे?

9. Is [it] good that He doth search you, If, as one mocketh at a man, ye mock at Him?

10. जो तुम छिपकर पक्षपात करो, तो वह निश्चय तुम को डांटेगा।

10. He doth surely reprove you, if in secret ye accept faces.

11. क्या तुम उसके माहात्म्य से भय न खाओगे? क्या उसका डर तुम्हारे मन में न समाएगा?

11. Doth not His excellency terrify you? And His dread fall upon you?

12. तुम्हारे स्मरणयोग्य नीतिवचन राख के समान हैं; तुम्हारे कोट मिट्टी ही के ठहरे हैंे

12. Your remembrances [are] similes of ashes, For high places of clay your heights.

13. मुझ से बात करना छोड़ो, कि मैं भी कुछ कहने पाऊं; फिर मुझ पर जो चाहे वह आ पड़े।

13. Keep silent from me, and I speak, And pass over me doth what?

14. मैं क्यों अपना मांस अपने दांतों से चबाऊं? और क्यों अपना प्राण हथेली पर रखूं?

14. Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth? And my soul put in my hand?

15. वह मुझे घात करेगा, मुझे कुछ आशा नहीं; तौभी मैं अपनी चाल चलन का पक्ष लूंगा।

15. Lo, He doth slay me -- I wait not! Only, my ways unto His face I argue.

16. और यह भी मेरे बचाव का कारण होगा, कि भक्तिहीन जन उसके साम्हने नहीं जा सकता।

16. Also -- He [is] to me for salvation, For the profane cometh not before Him.

17. चित्त लगाकर मेरी बात सुनो, और मेरी बिनती तुम्हारे कान में पड़े।

17. Hear ye diligently my word, And my declaration with your ears.

18. देखो, मैं ने अपने बहस की पूरी तैयारी की है; मुझे निश्चय है कि मैं निदष ठहरूंगा।

18. Lo, I pray you, I have set in order the cause, I have known that I am righteous.

19. कौन है जो मुझ से मुक मा लड़ सकेगा? ऐसा कोई पाया जाए, तो मैं चुप होकर प्राण छोडूंगा।

19. Who [is] he that doth strive with me? For now I keep silent and gasp.

20. दो ही काम मुझ से न कर, तब मैं तुझ से नहीं छिपूंगो

20. Only two things, O God, do with me: Then from Thy face I am not hidden.

21. अपनी ताड़ना मुझ से दूर कर ले, और अपने भय से मुझे भयभीत न कर।

21. Thy hand put far off from me, And Thy terror let not terrify me.

22. तब तेरे बुलाने पर मैं बोलूंगा; नहीं तो मैं प्रश्न करूंगा, और तू मुझे उत्तर दे।

22. And call Thou, and I -- I answer, Or -- I speak, and answer Thou me.

23. मुझ से कितने अधर्म के काम और पाप हुए हैं? मेरे अपराध और पाप मुझे जता दे।

23. How many iniquities and sins have I? My transgression and my sin let me know.

24. तू किस कारण अपना मुंह फेर लेता है, और मुझे अपना शत्रु गिनता है?

24. Why dost Thou hide Thy face? And reckonest me for an enemy to Thee?

25. क्या तू उड़ते हुए पत्ते को भी कंपाएगा? और सूखे डंठल के पीछे पड़ेगा?

25. A leaf driven away dost Thou terrify? And the dry stubble dost Thou pursue?

26. तू मेरे लिये कठिन दु:खों की आज्ञा देता है, और मेरी जवानी के अधर्म का फल मुझे भुगता देता है।

26. For Thou writest against me bitter things, And causest me to possess iniquities of my youth:

27. और मेरे पांवों को काठ में ठोंकता, और मेरी सारी चाल चलन देखता रहता है; और मेरे पांवों की चारों ओर सीमा बान्ध लेता है।

27. And puttest in the stocks my feet, And observest all my paths, On the roots of my feet Thou settest a print,

28. और मैं सड़ी गली वस्तु के तुल्य हूं जो नाश हो जाती है, और कीड़ा खाए कपड़े के तुल्य हूँ।

28. And he, as a rotten thing, weareth away, As a garment hath a moth consumed him.
