1. बहुत दिनों के बाद, तीसरे वर्ष में यहोवा का यह वचन एलिरयाह के पास पहुंचा, कि जाकर अपने अपप को अहाब को दिखा, और मैं भूमि पर मेंह बरसा दूंगा।

1. And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Jehovah came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

2. तब एलिरयाह अपने आप को अहाब को दिखाने गया। उस समय शोमरोन में अकाल भारी था।

2. And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And the famine was sore in Samaria.

3. इसलिये अहाब ने ओबद्याह को जो उसके घराने का दीवान था बुलवाया।

3. And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly:

4. ओबद्याह तो यहोवा का भय यहां तक मानता था कि जब ईज़ेबेल यहोवा के नबियों को नाश करती थी, तब ओबद्याह ने एक सौ नबियों को लेकर पचास- पचास करके गुफाओं में छिपा रखा; और अन्न जल देकर उनका पालन- पोषण करता रहा।

4. for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

5. और अहाब ने ओबद्याह से कहा, कि देश में जल के सब सोतों और सब नदियों के पास जा, कदाचित इतनी घास मिले कि हम घेड़ों और खच्चरों को जीवित बचा सकें,

5. And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go through the land, unto all the fountains of water, and unto all the brooks: peradventure we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.

6. और हमारे सब पशु न मर जाएं। और उन्हों ने आपस में देश बांटा कि उस में होकर चलें; एक ओर अहाब और दूसरी ओर ओबद्याह चला।

6. So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7. ओबद्याह मार्ग में था, कि एलिरयाह उसको मिला; उसे चरन्ह कर वह मुंह के बल गिरा, और कहा, हे मेरे प्रभु एलिरयह, क्या तू है?

7. And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Is it thou, my lord Elijah?

8. उस ने कहा हां मैं ही हूँ : जाकर अपने स्वामी से कह, कि एलिरयाह मिला है।

8. And he answered him, It is I: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here].

9. उस ने कहा, मैं ने ऐसा क्या पाप किया है कि तू मुझे मरवा डालने के लिये अहाब के हाथ करना चाहता है?

9. And he said, Wherein have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

10. तेरे परमेश्वर यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ कोई ऐसी जाति वा राज्य नहीं, जिस में मेरे स्वामी ने तुझे ढूंढ़ने को न भेजा हो, और जब उन लोगों ने कहा, कि वह यहां नहीं है, तब उस ने उस राज्य वा जाति को इसकी शपथ खिलाई कि एलिरयाह नहीं मिला।

10. As Jehovah thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not here, he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

11. और अब तू कहता है कि जाकर अपने स्वामी से कह, कि एलिरयाह मिला !

11. And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here].

12. फिर ज्यों ही मैं तेरे पास से चला जाऊंगा, त्यों ही यहोवा का आत्मा तुझे न जाने कहां उठा ले जाएगा, सो जब मैं जाकर अहाब को बताऊंगा, और तू उसे न मिलेगा, तब वह मुझे मार डालेगा : परन्तु मैं तेरा दास अपने लड़कपन से यहोवा का भय मानता आया हूँ !

12. And it will come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me: but I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.

13. क्या मेरे प्रभु को यह नहीं बताया गया, कि जब ईज़ेबेल यहोवा के नबियों को घात करती थी तब मैं ने क्या किया? कि यहोवा के नबियों में से एक सौ लेकर पचाय- पचाय करके गुफाओं में छिपा रखा, और उन्हें अन्न जल देकर पालता रहा।

13. Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

14. फिर अब तू कहता है, जाकर अपने स्वामी से कह, कि एलिरयाह मिला है ! तब वह मुझे घात करेगा।

14. And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah [is here]; and he will slay me.

15. एलिरयाह ने कहा, सेनाओं का यहोवा जिसके साम्हने मैं रहता हूँ, उसके जीवन की शपथ आज मैं अपने अप को उसे दिखाऊंगा।

15. And Elijah said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him to-day.

16. तब ओबद्याह अहाब से मिलने गया, और उसको बता दिया, सो अहाब एलिरयाह से मिलने चला।

16. So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17. एलिरयाह को देखते ही अहाब ने कहा, हे इस्राएल के सतानेवाले क्या तू ही है?

17. And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Is it thou, thou troubler of Israel?

18. उस ने कहा, मैं ने इस्राएल को कष्ट नहीं दिया, परन्तु तू ही ने और तेरे पिता के घराने ने दिया है; क्योंकि तुम यहोवा की आज्ञाओ को टालकर बाल देवताओं की उपासना करने लगे।

18. And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baalim.

19. अब दूत भेजकर सारे इस्राएल को और बाल के साढ़े चार सौ नबियों और अशेरा के चार सौ नबियों को जो ईज़ेबेल की मेज पर खाते हैं, मेरे पास कर्म्मेल पर्वत पर इकट्ठा कर ले।

19. Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, that eat at Jezebel's table.

20. तब अहाब ने सारे इस्राएलियों को बुला भेजा और नबियों को कर्म्मेल पर्वत पर इकट्ठा किया।

20. So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

21. और एलिरयाह सब लोगों के पास आकर कहने लगा, तुम कब तक दो विचारों में लटके रहोगे, यदि यहोवा परमेश्वर हो, तो उसके पीछे हो लेओे; और यदि बाल हो, तो उसके पीछे हो लेओ। लोगों ने उसके उत्तर में एक भी बात न कही।

21. And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long go ye limping between the two sides? if Jehovah be God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22. तब एलिरयाह ने लोगों से कहा, यहोवा के नबियों में से केवल मैं ही रह गया हूँ; और बाल के नबी साढ़े चार सौ मनुष्य हैं।

22. Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, am left a prophet of Jehovah; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23. इसलिये दो बछड़े लाकर हमें दिए जाएं, और वे एक अपने लिये चुनकर उसे टुकड़े टुकड़े काटकर लकड़ी पर रख दें, और कुछ आग न लगाएं; और मैं दूसरे बछड़े को तैयार करके लकड़ी पर रखूंगा, और कुछ आग न लगाऊंगा।

23. Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under.

24. तब तुम तो अपने दवता से प्रार्थना करना, और मैं यहोवा से प्रार्थना करूंगा, और जो आग गिराकर उत्तर दे वही परमेश्वर ठहरे। तब सब लोग बोल उठे, अच्छी बात।
प्रकाशितवाक्य 13:13

24. And call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of Jehovah; and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

25. और एलिरयाह ने बाल के नबियों से कहा, पहिले तुम एक बछड़ा चुनकर तैयार कर लो, क्योंकि तुम तो बहुत हो; तब अपने देवता से प्रार्थना करना, परन्तु आग न लगाना।

25. And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under.

26. तब उन्हों ने उस बछड़े को जो उन्हें दिया गया था लेकर तैयार किया, और भोर से लेकर दोपहर तक वह यह कहकर बाल से प्रार्थना करते रहे, कि हे बाल हमारी सुन, हे बाल हमारी सुन ! परन्तु न कोई शब्द और न कोई उत्तर देनेवाला हुआ। तब वे अपनी बनाई हुई वेदी पर उछलने कूदने लगे।

26. And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made.

27. दोपहर को एलिरयाह ने यह कहकर उनका ठट्ठा किया, कि ऊंचे शब्द से पुकारो, वह तो देवता है; वह तो ध्यान लगाए होगा, वा कहीं गया होगा वा यात्रा में होगा, वा हो सकता है कि सोता हो और उसे जगाना चाहिए।

27. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud; for he is a god: either he is musing, or he is gone aside, or he is on a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth and must be awaked.

28. और उन्हों ने बड़े शब्द से पुकार पुकार के अपनी रीति के अनुसार छुरियों और बर्छियों से अपने अपने को यहां तक घायल किया कि लोहू लुहान हो गए।

28. And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them.

29. वे दोपहर भर ही क्या, वरन भेंट चढ़ाने के समय तक नबूवत करते रहे, परन्तु कोई शब्द सुन न पड़ा; और न तो किसी ने उत्तर दिया और न कान लगाया।

29. And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the [evening] oblation; but there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

30. तब एलिरयाह ने सब लोगों से कहा, मेरे निकट आओ; और सब लोग उसके निकट आए। तब उस ने यहोवा की वेदी की जो गिराई गई थी मरम्मत की।

30. And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me; and all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah that was thrown down.

31. फिर एलिरयाह ने याकूब के पुत्रों की गिनती के अनुसार जिसके पास यहोवा का यह पचन आया था,

31. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah came, saying, Israel shall be thy name.

32. कि तेरा नाम इस्राएल होगा, बारह पत्थ्र छांटे, और उन पत्थरों से यहोवा के नाम की एक वेदी बनाई; और उसके चारों ओर इतना बड़ा एक गड़हा खोद दिया, कि उस में दो सआ बीज समा सके।

32. And with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33. तब उस ने वेदी पर लकड़ी को सजाया, और बछड़े को टुकड़े टुकड़े काटकर लकड़ी पर धर दिया, और कहा, चार घड़े पानी भर के होमबलि, पशु और लकड़ी पर उणडेल दो।

33. And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.

34. तब उस ने कहा, दूसरी बार वैसा ही करो; तब लोगों ने दूसरी बार वैसा ही किया। फिर उस ने कहा, तीसरी बार करो; तब लोगों ने तीसरी बार भी वैसा ही किया।

34. And he said, Do it the second time; and they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time; and they did it the third time.

35. और जल वेदी के चारों ओर बह गया, और गड़हे को भी उस ने जल से भर दिया।

35. And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

36. फिर भेंट चढ़ाने के समय एलिरयाह नबी समीप जाकर कहने लगा, हे इब्राहीम, इसहाक और इस्राएल के परमेश्वर यहोवा ! आज यह प्रगट कर कि इस्राएल में तू ही परमेश्वर है, और मैं तेरा दास हूँ, और मैं ने ये सब काम तझ से वचन पाकर किए हैं।

36. And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the [evening] oblation, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37. हे यहावा ! मेरी सुन, मेरी सुन, कि ये लोग जान लें कि हे यहोवा, तू ही परमेश्वर है, और तू ही उनका मन लौटा लेता है।

37. Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me, that this people may know that thou, Jehovah, art God, and [that] thou hast turned their heart back again.

38. तब यहोवा की आग आकाश से प्रगट हुई और होमबलि को लकड़ी और पत्थ्रों और धूलि समेत भस्म कर दिया, और गड़हे में का जल भी सुखा दिया।

38. Then the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39. यह देख सब लोग मुंह के बल गिरकर बोल उठे, यहोवा ही परमेश्वर है, यहोवा ही परमेश्वर है;

39. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, Jehovah, he is God; Jehovah, he is God.

40. एलिरयाह ने उन से कहा, बाल के नबियों को पकड़ लो, उन में से एक भी छूटते न पाए; तब उन्हों ने उनको पकड़ लिया, और एलिरयाह ने उन्हें नीचे किशोन के नाले में ले जाकर मार डाला।

40. and Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

41. फिर एलिरयाह ने अहाब से कहा, उठकर खा पी, क्योंकि भारी वर्षा की सनसनाहट सुन पडती है।

41. And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.

42. तब अहाब खाने पीने चला गया, और एलिरयाह कर्म्मेल की चोटी पर चढ़ गया, और भूमि पर गिर कर अपना मुंह घुटनों के बीच किया।
याकूब 5:18

42. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees.

43. और उस ने अपने सेवक से कहा, चढ़कर समुद्र की ओर दृष्टि कर देख, तब उस ने चढ़कर देखा और लौटकर कहा, कुछ नहीं दीखता। एलिरयाह ने कहा, फिर सात बार जा।

43. And he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44. सातवीं बार उस ने कहा, देख समुद्र में से मनुष्य का हाथ सा एक छोटा आदल उठ रहा है। एलिरयाह ने कहा, अहाब के पास जाकर कह, कि रथ जुतवा कर नीचे जा, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि नू वर्षा के कारण रूक जाए।

44. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Make ready [thy chariot], and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

45. थोड़ी ही देर में आकाश वायु से उड़ाई हुई घटाओं, और आन्धी से काला हो गया और भरी वर्षा होने लगी; और अहाब सवार होकर यिज्रेल को चला।

45. And it came to pass in a little while, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel:

46. तब यहोवा की शक्ति एलिरयाह पर ऐसी हुई; कि वह कमर बान्धकर अहाब के आगे आगे यिज्रेल तक दौड़ता चला गया।
लूका 12:35

46. and the hand of Jehovah was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
