1. तब यहोवा ने दाऊद के पास नातान को भेजा, और वह उसके पास जाकर कहने लगा, एक नगर में दो मनुष्य रहते थे, जिन में से एक धनी और एक निर्धन था।

1. And YHWH sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

2. धनी के पास तो बहुत सी भेड़- बकरियां और गाय बैल थे;

2. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

3. परन्तु निर्धन के पास भेड़ की एक छोटी बच्ची को छोड़ और कुछ भी न था, और उसको उस ने मोल लेकर जिलाया था। और वह उसके यहां उसके बालबच्चों के साथ ही बढ़ी थी; वह उसके टुकड़े में से खाती, और उसके कटोरे में से पीती, और उसकी गोद मे सोती थी, और वह उसकी बेटी के समान थी।

3. But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

4. और धनी के पास एक बटोही आया, और उस ने उस बटोही के लिये, जो उसके पास आया था, भोजत बनवाने को अपनी भेड़- बकरियों वा गाय बैलों में से कुछ न लिया, परन्तु उस निर्धन मनुष्य की भेड़ की बच्ची लेकर उस जन के लिये, जो उसके पास आया था, भोजन बनवाया।

4. And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor mans lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5. तब दाऊद का कोप उस मनुष्य पर बहुत भड़का; और उस ने नातान से कहा, यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, जिस मनुष्य ने ऐसा काम किया वह प्राण दणड के योग्य है;

5. And Davids anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As YHWH liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

6. और उसको वह भेड़ की बच्ची का औगुणा भर देना होगा, क्योंकि उस ने ऐसा काम किया, और कुछ दया नहीं की।

6. And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

7. तब नातान ने दाऊद से कहा, तू ही वह मनुष्य है। इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, कि मैं ने तेरा अभिशेक कराके तुझे इस्राएल का राजा ठहराया, और मैं ते तुझे शाऊल के हाथ से बचाया;

7. And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith YHWH Elohim of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8. फिर मैं ने तेरे स्वामी का भवन तुझे दिया, और तेरे स्वामी की पत्नियां तेरे भाग के लिये दीं; और मैं ने इस्राएल और सहूदा का घराना तुझे दिया था; और यदि यह थोड़ा था, तो मैं तुझे और भी बहुत कुछ देनेवाला था।

8. And I gave thee thy masters house, and thy masters wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

9. तू ने यहोवा की आज्ञा तुच्छ जानकर क्यों वह काम किया, जो उसकी दृष्टि में बुरा है? हित्ती ऊरिरयाह को तू ने तलवार से घात किया, और उसकी पत्नी को अपनी कर लिया है, और ऊरिरयाह को अम्मोनियों की तलवार से मरवा डाला है।

9. Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of YHWH, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

10. इसलिये अब तलवार तेरे घर से कभी दूर न होगी, क्योंकि तू ने मुझे तुच्छ जानकर हित्ती ऊरिरयाह की पत्नी को अपनी पत्नी कर लिया है।

10. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

11. यहोवा यों कहता है, कि सुन, मैं तेरे घर में से विपत्ति उठाकर तुझ पर डालूंगा; और तेरी पत्नियों को तेरे साम्हने लेकर दूसरे को दूंगा, और वह दिन दुपहरी में तेरी पत्नियों से कुकर्म करेगा।

11. Thus saith YHWH, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

12. तू ने तो वह काम छिपाकर किया; पर मैं यह काम सब इस्राएलियों के साम्हने दिन दुपहरी कराऊंगा।

12. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

13. तब दाऊद ने नातान से कहा, मैं ने यहोवा के विरूद्ध पाप किया है। नातान ने दाऊद से कहा, यहोवा ने तेरे पाप को दूर किया है।; तू न मरेगा।

13. And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against YHWH. And Nathan said unto David, YHWH also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

14. तौभी तू ने जो इस काम के द्वारा यहोवा के शत्रुओं को तिरस्कार करने का बड़ा अवसर दिया है, इस कारण तेरा जो बेटा उत्पन्न हुआ है वह अवश्य ही मरेगा।

14. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of YHWH to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

15. तब नातान अपने घर चला गया। और जो बच्चा ऊरिरयाह की पत्नी से दाऊद के द्वारा उत्पन्न था, वह यहोवा का मारा बहुत रोगी हो गया।

15. And Nathan departed unto his house. And YHWH struck the child that Uriahs wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

16. और दाऊद उस लड़के के लिये परमेश्वर से बिनती करने लगा; और उपवास किया, और भीतर जाकर रात भर भूमि पर पड़ा रहा।

16. David therefore besought Elohim for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

17. तब उसके घराने के पुरनिये उठकर उसे भूमि पर से उठाने के लिये उसके पास गए; परन्तु उस ने न चाहा, और उनके संग रोठी न खाई।

17. And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

18. सातवें दिन बच्चा मर गया, और दाऊद के कर्मचारी उसको बच्चे के मरने का समाचार देने से डरे; उन्हों ने तो कहा था, कि जब तक बच्चा जीवित रहा, तब तक उस ने हमारे बमझाने पर मन न लगाया; यदि हम उसको बच्चे के मर जाने का हाल सुनाएं तो वह बहुत ही अधिक दु:खी होगा।

18. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

19. अपने कर्मचारियों को आपस में फुसफुसाते देखकर दाऊद ने जान लिया कि बच्चा मर गया; तो दाऊद ने अपने कर्मचारियों से पूछा, क्या बच्चा मर गया? उन्हों ने कहा, हां, मर गया है।

19. But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

20. तब दाऊद भूमि पर से उठा, और नहाकर तेल लगाया, और वस्त्रा बदला; तब यहोवा के भवन में जाकर दणडवत् की; फिर अपने भवन में आया; और उसकी आज्ञा पर रोटी उसको परोसी गई, और उस ने भोजन किया।

20. Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of YHWH, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

21. तब उसके कर्मचारियों ने उस से पूछा, तू ने यह क्या काम किया है? जब तक बच्चा जीवित रहा, तब तक तू उपवास करता हुआ रोता रहा; परन्तु ज्योंही बच्चा मर गया, त्योंही तू उठकर भोजन करने लगा।

21. Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

22. उस ने उत्तर दिया, कि जब तक बच्चा जीवित रहा तब तक तो मैं यह सोचकर उपवास करता और रोता रहा, कि क्या जाने यहोवा माुझ पर ऐसा अनुग्रह करे कि बच्चा जीवित रहे।

22. And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether Elohim will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

23. परन्तु अब वह मर गया, फिर मैं उपवास क्यों करूं? क्या मैं उसे लौटा ला सकता हूं? मैं तो उसके पास जाऊंगा, परन्तु वह मेरे पास लौट न आएगा।

23. But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

24. तब दाऊद ने अपनी पत्नी बतशेबा को शान्ति दी, और वह उसके पास गया; और असके एक पुत्रा उत्पन्न हुआ, और उस ने उसका नाम सुलैमान रखा। और वह सहोवा का प्रिय हुआ।

24. And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and YHWH loved him.

25. और उस ने नातान भविष्यद्वक्ता के द्वारा सन्देश भेज दिया; और उस ने यहोवा के कारण उसका नाम यदीद्याह रखा।

25. And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of YHWH.

26. और योआब ने अम्मोनियों के रब्बा नगर से लड़कर राजनगर को ले लिया।

26. And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

27. तब योआब ने दूतों से दाऊद के पास यह कहला भेजा, कि मैं रब्बा से लड़ा और जलवाले नगर को ले लिया है।

27. And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.

28. सो अब रहे हुए लोगों को इकट्ठा करके नगर के विरूद्ध छावनी डालकर उसे भी ले ले; ऐसा न हो कि मैं उसे ले लूं, और वह मेरे नाम पर कहलाए।

28. Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.

29. तब दाऊद सब लोगों को इकट्ठा करके रब्बा को गया, और उस से युठ्ठ करके उसे ले लिया।

29. And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.

30. तब उस ने उनके राजा का मुकुट, जो तौल में किक्कार भर सोने का था, और उस में मणि जड़े थे, उसको उसके सिर पर से उतारा, और वह दाऊद के सिर पर रखा गया। फिर उस ने उस नगर की बहुत ही लूट पाई।

30. And he took their kings crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on Davids head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.

31. और उस ने उसके रहनेवालों को निकालकर आरो से दो दो टुकड़े कराया, और लोहे के हेंगे उन पर फिरवाए, और लोहे की कुल्हाड़ियों से उन्हें कटवाया, और ईट के पजावे में से चलवाया; और अम्मोनियों के सब नगरों से भी उस ने ऐसा ही किया। तब दाऊद समस्त लोगों समेत यरूशलेम को लौट आया।

31. And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
