1. हे यहोवा, स्मरण कर कि हम पर क्या क्या बीता है; हमारी ओर दृष्टि करके हमारी नामधराई को देख !

1. Remember, O Yahweh, what hath befallen us, Look around, and see our reproach:

2. हमारा भाग परदेशियों का हो गया ओर हमारे घर परायों के हो गए हैं।

2. Our inheritance, turned over to foreigners, our houses, to aliens.

3. हम अनाथ और पिताहीन हो गए; हमारी माताएं विधवा सी हो गई हैं।

3. Orphans, have we become, and fatherless, our mothers, are widows indeed.

4. हम मोल लेकर पानी पीते हैं, हम को लकड़ी भी दाम से मिलती है।

4. Our water for silver, have we drunk, our wood for a price, cometh in.

5. खदेड़नेवाले हमारी गर्दन पर टूट पडे हैं; हम थक गए हैं, हमें विश्राम नहीं मिलता।

5. Upon our necks, are our pursuers, We labour, and there is allowed us no rest.

6. हम स्वयं मिस्र के अधीन हो गए, और अश्शूर के भी, ताकि पेेट भर सकें।

6. To Egypt, have we stretched out our hand, to Assyria, to be satisfied with bread.

7. हमारे पुरखाओं ने पाप किया, ओर मर मिटे हैं; परन्तु उनके अधर्म के कामों का भार हम को उठाना पड़ा है।

7. Our fathers, sinned, and are not, and, we, their iniquities, have borne.

8. हमारे ऊपर दास अधिकार रखते हैं; उनके हाथ से कोई हमें नहीं छुड़ाता।

8. Slaves, have ruled over us, There is none to set free from their hand.

9. जंगल में की तलवार के कारण हम अपने प्राण जोखिम में डालकर भोजनवस्तु ले आते हैं।

9. At the risk of our life, do we bring in our bread, because of the sword of the desert.

10. भूख की झुलसाने वाली आग के कारण, हमारा चमड़ा तंदूर की नाई काला हो गया है।

10. Our skin, as with a furnace, is scorched, because of the hot winds of famine.

11. सिरयोन में स्त्रियां, और यहूदा के नगरों में कुमारियां भ्रष्ट की गई हैं।

11. Women in Zion, were ravished, virgins, in the cities of Judah!

12. हाकिम हाथ के बल टांगे गए हैं; और पुरनियों का कुछ भी आदर नहीं किया गया।

12. Princes, by their hand, have been hanged, The faces of elders, not honoured.

13. जवानों को चक्की चलानी पड़ती है; और लड़केबाले लकड़ी का बोझ उठाते हुए लडखड़ाते हैं।

13. Young men, a millstone, have lifted, and, youths, under wood, have staggered.

14. अब फाटक पर पुरनिये नहीं बैठते, न जवानों का गीत सुनाई पड़ता है।

14. Elders, from the gates, have ceased. Young men, from their music.

15. हमारे मन का हर्ष जाता रहा, हमारा नाचना विलाप में बदल गया है।

15. Ceased hath the joy of our hearts, Changed to mourning, our dance.

16. हमारे सिर पर का मुकुट गिर पड़ा हे; हम पर हाय, क्योंकि हम ने पाप किया है !

16. Fallen is the crown of our head. Surely woe to us, for we have sinned.

17. इस कारण हमारा हृदय निर्बल हो गया है, इन्हीं बातों से हमारी आंखें धुंधली पड़ गई हैं,

17. For this cause, faint is our heart, For these things, dimmed are our eyes:

18. क्योंकि सिरयोन पर्वत उजाड़ पड़ा है; उस में सियार घूमते हैं।

18. Because of Mount Zion, which is desolate, jackals, have gone prowling therein.

19. परन्तु हे यहोवा, तू तो सदा तक विराजमान रहेगा; तेरा राज्य पीढ़ी- पीढ़ी बना रहेगा।

19. Thou, O Yahweh, unto times age-abiding, dost remain, Thy throne, from generation to generation:

20. तू ने क्यों हम को सदा के लिये भुला दिया है, और क्यों बहुत काल के लिये हमें छोड़ दिया है?

20. Wherefore shouldst thou perpetually forget us? forsake us, to length of days?

21. हे यहोवा, हम को अपनी ओर फेर, तब हम फिर सुधर जाएंगे। प्राचीनकाल की नाई हमारे दिन बदलकर ज्यों के त्यों कर दे !

21. Bring us back, O Yahweh, unto thyself, and we will come back! Renew our days, as of old;

22. क्या तू ने हमें बिल्कुल त्याग दिया हे? क्या तू हम से अत्यन्त क्रोधित है?

22. For though thou hast not, utterly rejected, us, thou art wroth with us exceedingly!
