1. Now it fell upon a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the young man that bare his armour, Come and let us go over to the Philistines garrison, that is on yonder side. But he told not his father.

2. शाऊल तो गिबा के सिरे पर मिग्रोन में के अनार के पेड़ के तले टिका हुआ था, और उसके संग के लोग कोई छ: सौ थे;

2. And Saul abode in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people that were with him were about six hundred men:

3. और एली जो शीलों में यहोवा का याजक था, उसके पुत्रा पिनहास का पोता, और ईकाबोद के भाई, अहीतूब का पुत्रा अहिरयाह भी एपोद पहिने हुए संग था। परन्तु उन लोगों को मालूम न था कि योनातान चला गया है।

3. and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabods brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of the LORD in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. And the people knew not that Jonathan was gone.

4. उन घाटियों के बीच में, जिन से होकर योनातान पलिश्तियों की चौकी को जाना चाहता था, दोनों अलंगों पर एक एक नोकीली चट्टान थी; एक चट्टान का नाम तो बोसेस, और दूसरी का नाम सेने था।

4. And between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over unto the Philistines garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5. एक चट्टान तो उत्तर की ओर मिकमाश के साम्हने, और दूसरी दक्खिन की ओर गेबा के साम्हने खड़ी है।

5. The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

6. तब योनातान ने अपने हथियार ढोनेवाले जवान से कहा, आ, हम उन खतनारहित लोगों की चौकी के पास जाएं; क्या जाने यहोवा हमारी सहायता करे; क्योंकि यहोवा को कुछ रोक नहीं, कि चाहे तो बहुत लोगों के द्वारा चाहे थोड़े लोगों के द्वारा छुटकारा दे।

6. And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

7. उसके हथियार ढोनेवाले ने उस से कहा, जो कुछ तेरे मन में हो वही कर; उधर चल, मैं तेरी इच्छा के अनुसार तेरे संग रहूंगा।

7. And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee, behold I am with thee according to thy heart.

8. योनातान ने कहा, सुन, हम उन मनुष्यों के पास जाकर अपने को उन्हें दिखाएं।

8. Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto the men, and we will discover ourselves unto them.

9. यदि वे हम से यों कहें, हमारे आने तक ठहरे रहो, तब तो हम उसी स्थान पर खड़े रहें, और उनके पास न चढ़ें।

9. If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them.

10. परन्तु यदि वे यह कहें, कि हमारे पास चढ़ आओ, तो हम यह जानकर चढ़ें, कि यहोवा उन्हें हमारे साथ कर देगा। हमारे लिये यही चिन्ह हो।

10. But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the LORD hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be the sign unto us.

11. तब उन दोनों ने अपने को पलिश्तियों की चौकी पर प्रगट किया, तब पलिश्ती कहने लगे, देखो, इब्री लोग उन बिलों में से जहां वे छिप रहे थे निकले आते हैं।

11. And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

12. फिर चौकी के लोगों ने योनातान और उसके हथियार ढोनवाले से पुकार के कहा, हमारे पास चढ़ आओ, तब हम तुम को कुछ सिखाएंगे। तब योनातान ने अपने हथियार ढोनवाले से कहा मेरे पीछे पीछे चढ़ आ; क्योंकि यहोवा उन्हें इस्राएलियों के हाथ में कर देगा।

12. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the LORD hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.

13. और योनातान अपने हाथों और पावों के बल चढ़ गया, और उसका हथियार ढोनेवाला भी उसके पीछे पीछे चढ़ गया। और पलिश्ती योनातान के साम्हने गिरते गए, और उसका हथियार ढोनेवाला उसके पीछे पीछे उन्हें मारता गया।

13. And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew them after him.

14. यह पहिला संहार जो योनातान और उसके हथियार ढोनेवाल से हुआ, उस में आधे बीघे भूमि में बीस एक पुरूष मारे गए।

14. And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men within as it were half a furrows length in an acre of land.

15. और छावनी में, और मैदान पर, और उन सब लोगों में थरथराहट हुई; और चौकीवाले और नाश करनेवाले भी थरथराने लगे; और भुईंडोल भी हुआ; और अत्यन्त बड़ी थरथराहट हुई।

15. And there was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled: and the earth quaked; so there was an exceeding great trembling.

16. और बिन्यामीन के गिबा में शाऊल के पहरूओं ने दृष्टि करके देखा कि वह भीड़ घटती जाती है, और वे लोग इधर उधर चले जाते हैं।।

16. And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went {cf15i hither} and thither.

17. तब शाऊल ने अपने साथ के लोगों से कहा, अपनी गिनती करके देखो कि हमारे पास से कौन चला गया है। उन्हों ने गिनकर देखा, कि योनातान और उसका हथियार ढोनेवाला यहां नहीं है।

17. Then said Saul unto the people that were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

18. तब शाऊल ने अहिरयाह से कहा, परमेश्वर का सन्दूक इस्राएलियों के साथ था।

18. And Saul said unto Ahijah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was {cf15i there} at that time with the children of Israel.

19. शाऊल याजक से बातें कर रहा था, कि पलिश्तियों की छावनी में हुल्लड़ अधिक होता गया; तब शाऊल ने याजक से कहा, अपना हाथ खींच।

19. And it came to pass, while Saul talked unto the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said unto the priest, Withdraw thine hand.

20. तब शाऊल और उसके संग के सब लोग इकट्ठे होकर लड़ाई में गए; वहां उन्हों ने क्या देखा, कि एक एक पुरूष की तलवार अपने अपने साथी पर चल रही है, और बहुत कोलाहल मच रहा है।

20. And Saul and all the people that were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and, behold, every mans sword was against his fellow, {cf15i and there was} a very great discomfiture.

21. और जो इब्री पहिले की नाईं पलिश्तियों की ओर के थे, और उनके साथ चारों ओर से छावनी में गए थे, वे भी शाऊल और योनातान के संग के इस्राएलियों में मिल गए।

21. Now the Hebrews that were with the Philistines as beforetime, which went up with them into the camp {cf15i from the country} round about; even they also {cf15i turned} to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Jonathan.

22. और जितने इस्राएली पुरूष एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश में छिप गए थे, वे भी यह सुनकर कि पलिश्ती भागे जाते हैं, लड़ाई में आ उनका पीछा करने में लग गए।

22. Likewise all the men of Israel which had hid themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.

23. तब यहोवा ने उस दिन इस्राएलियों को छुटकार दिया; और लड़नेवाले बेतावेन की परली ओर तक चले गए।

23. So the LORD saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over by Bethaven.

24. परन्तु इस्राएली पुरूष उस दिन तंग हुए, क्योंकि शाऊल ने उन लोगों को शपथ धराकर कहा, शापित हो वह, जो सांझ से पहिले कुछ खाए; इसी रीति मैं अपने शत्रुओं से पलटा ले सकूंगा। तब उन लोगों में से किसी ने कुछ भी भोजन न किया।

24. And the men of Israel were distressed that day: but Saul adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until it be evening, and I be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted food.

25. और सब लोग किसी वन में पहुंचे, जहां भूमि पर मधु पड़ा हुआ था।

25. And all the people came into the forest; and there was honey upon the ground.

26. जब लोग वन में आए तब क्या देखा, कि मधु टपक रहा है, तौभी शपथ के डर के मारे कोई अपना हाथ अपने मुंह तक न ले गया।

26. And when the people were come unto the forest, behold, the honey dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.

27. परन्तु योनातान ने अपने पिता को लोगों को शपथ धराते न सुना था, इसलिये उस ने अपने हाथ की छड़ी की नोक बढ़ाकर मधु के छत्ते में डुबाया, और अपना हाथों अपने मुंह तक लगाया; तब उसकी आंखों में ज्योति आई।

27. But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.

28. तब लोगों में से एक मनुष्य ने कहा, तेरे पिता ने लोगों को दृढ़ता से शपथ धरा के कहा, शापित हो वह, जो आज कुछ खाए। और लोग थके मांदे थे।

28. Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food this day. And the people were faint.

29. योनातान ने कहा, मेरे पिता ने लोगों को कष्ट दिया है; देखो, मैं ने इस मधु को थोड़ा सा चखा, और मुझे आंखों से कैसा सूझने लगा।

29. Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30. यदि आज लोग अपने शत्रुओं की लूट से जिसे उन्हों ने पाया मनमाना खाते, तो कितना अच्छा होता; अभी तो बहुत पलिश्ती मारे नहीं गए।

30. How much more, if haply the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for now hath there been no great slaughter among the Philistines.

31. उस दिन वे मिकमाश से लेकर अरयालोन तक पलिश्तियों को मारते गए; और लोग बहुत ही थक गए।

31. And they smote of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon: and the people were very faint.

32. सो वे लूट पर टूटे, और भेड़- बकरी, और गाय- बैल, और बछड़े लेकर भूमि पर मारके उनका मांस लोहू समेत खाने लगे।

32. and the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.

33. जब इसका समाचार शाऊल को मिला, कि लोग लोहू समेत मांस खाकर यहोवा के विरूद्ध पाप करते हैं। तब उस ने उन से कहा; तुम ने तो विश्वासघात किया है; अभी एक बड़ा पत्थर मेरे पास लुढ़का दो।

33. Then they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against the LORD, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have dealt treacherously: roll a great stone unto me this day.

34. फिर शाऊल ने कहा, लोगों के बीच में इधर उधर फिरके उन से कहो, कि अपना अपना बैल और भेड़ शाऊल के पास ले जाओ, और वहीं बलि करके खाओ; और लोहू समेत खाकर यहोवा के विरूद्ध पाप न करो। तब सब लोगों ने उसी रात अपना अपना बैल ले जाकर वहीं बलि किया।

34. And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slew them there.

35. तब शाऊल ने यहोवा के लिये एक वेदी बनवाई; वह तो पहिली वेदी है जो उस ने यहोवा के लिये बनवाई।।

35. And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the first altar that he built unto the LORD.

36. फिर शाऊल ने कहा, हम इसी राज को पलिश्तियों का पीछा करके उन्हें भोर तक लूटते रहें; और उन में से एक मनुष्य को भी जीवित न छोड़ें। उन्हों ने कहा, जो कुछ तुझे अच्छा लगे वही कर। परन्तु याजक ने कहा, हम इधर परमेश्वर के समीप आएं।

36. And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God.

37. तब शाऊल ने परमेश्वर से पुछवाया, कि क्या मैं पलिश्तियों का पीछा करूं? क्या तू उन्हें इस्राएल के हाथ में कर देगा? परन्तु उसे उस दिन कुछ उत्तर न मिला।

37. And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.

38. तब शाऊल ने कहा, हे प्रजा के मुख्य लोगों, इधर आकर बूझो; और देखो कि आज पाप किस प्रकार से हुआ है।

38. And Saul said, Draw nigh hither, all ye chiefs of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day.

39. क्योंकि इस्राएल के छुड़ानेवाले यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, यदि वह पाप मेरे पुत्रा योनातान से हुआ हो, तौभी निश्चय वह मार डाला जाएगा। परन्तु लोगों में से किसी ने उसे उत्तर न दिया।

39. For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But there was not a man among all the people that answered him.

40. तब उस ने सारे इस्राएलियों से कहा, तुम एक ओर हो, और मैं और मेरा पुत्रा योनातान दूसरी और होंगे। लोगों ने शाऊल से कहा, जो कुछ तुझे अच्छा लगे वही कर।

40. Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.

41. तब शाऊल ने यहोवा से कहा, हे इस्राएल के परमेश्वर, सत्य बात बता। तब चिट्ठी योनातान और शाऊल के नाम पर निकली, और प्रजा बच गई।

41. Therefore Saul said unto the LORD, the God of Israel, Shew the right. And Jonathan and Saul were taken {cf15i by lot}: but the people escaped.

42. फिर शाऊल ने कहा, मेरे और मेरे पुत्रा योनातान के नाम पर चिट्ठी डालो। तब चिट्ठी योनातान के नाम पर निकली।

42. And Saul said, Cast {cf15i lots} between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

43. तब शाऊल ने योनातान से कहा, मुझे बता, कि तू ने क्या किया है। योनातान ने बताया, और उस से कहा, मैं ने अपने हाथ की छड़ी की नोक से थोड़ा सा मधु चख तो लिया है; और देख, मुझे मरना है।

43. Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did certainly taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand; and, lo, I must die.

44. शाऊल ने कहा, परमेश्वर ऐसा ही करे, वरन इस से भी अधिक करे; हे योनातान, तू निश्चय मारा जाएगा।

44. And Saul said, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.

45. परन्तु लोगों ने शाऊल से कहा, क्या योनातान मारा जाए, जिस ने इस्राएलियों का ऐसा बड़ा छुटकारा किया है? ऐसा न होगा! यहोवा के जीवन की शपथ, उसके सिर का एक बाल भी भूमि पर गिरने न पाएगा; क्योंकि आज के दिन उस ने परमेश्वर के साथ होकर काम किया है। तब प्रजा के लोगों ने योनातान को बचा लिया, और वह मारा न गया।

45. And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid: as the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.

46. तब शाऊल पलिश्तियों का पीछा छोड़कर लौट गया; और पलिश्ती भी अपने स्थान को चले गए।।

46. Then Saul went up from following the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own place.

47. जब शाऊल इस्राएलियों के राज्य में स्थिर हो गया, तब वह मोआबी, अम्मोनी, एदोमी, और पलिश्ती, अपने चारों ओर के सब शत्रुओं से, और सोबा के राजाओं से लड़ा; और जहां जहां वह जाता वहां जय पाता था।

47. Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed {cf15i them}.

48. फिर उस ने वीरता करके अमालेकियों को जीता, और इस्राएलियों को लूटनेवालों के हाथ से छुड़ाया।।

48. And he did valiantly, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

49. शाऊल के पुत्रा योनातान, यिशबी, और मलकीश थे; और उसकी दो बेटियों के नाम ये थे, बड़ी का नाम तो मेरब और छोटी का नाम मीकल था।

49. Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchishua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

50. और शाऊल की स्त्री का नाम अहीनोअम था जो अहीमास की बेटी थी। और उसके प्रधान सेनापति का नाम अब्नेर था जो शाऊल के चचा नेर का पुत्रा था।

50. and the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of the captain of his host was Abner the son of Ner, Sauls uncle.

51. और शाऊल का पिता कीश था, और अब्नेर का पिता नेर अबीएल का पुत्रा था।

51. And Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52. और शाऊल जीवन भर पलिश्तियों से संग्राम करता रहा; जब जब शाऊल को कोई वीर वा अच्छा योद्धा दिखाई पड़ा तब तब उस ने उसे अपने पास रख लिया।।

52. And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him unto him.
