1. और यहोवा का दूत गिलगाल से बोकीम को जाकर कहने लगा, कि मैं ने तुम को मि से ले आकर इस देश में पहुंचाया है, जिसके विषय में मैं ने तुम्हारे पुरखाओं से शपथ खाई थी। और मैं ने कहा था, कि जो वाचा मैं ने तुम से बान्धी है, उसे मैं कभी न तोडूंगा;

1. GOD's angel went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, 'I brought you out of Egypt; I led you to the land that I promised to your fathers; and I said, I'll never break my covenant with you--never!

2. इसलिये तुम इस देश के निवासियों से वाचा न बान्धना; तुम उनकी वेदियों को ढा देना। परन्तु तुम ने मेरी बात नहीं मानी। तुम ने ऐसा क्यों किया है?

2. And you're never to make a covenant with the people who live in this land. Tear down their altars! But you haven't obeyed me! What's this that you're doing?

3. इसलिये मैं कहता हूं, कि मैं उन लोगों को तुम्हारे साम्हने से न निकालूंगा; और वे तुम्हारे पांजर में कांटे, और उनके देवता तुम्हारे लिये फंदे ठहरेंगे।

3. 'So now I'm telling you that I won't drive them out before you. They'll trip you up and their gods will become a trap.'

4. जब यहोवा के दूत ने सारे इस्राएलियों से ये बातें कहीं, तब वे लोग चिल्ला चिल्लाकर रोने लगे।

4. When GOD's angel had spoken these words to all the People of Israel, they cried out--oh! how they wept!

5. और उन्हों ने उस स्थान का नाम बोकीम रखा। और वहां उन्हों ने यहोवा के लिये बलि चढ़ाया।।

5. They named the place Bokim (Weepers). And there they sacrificed to GOD.

6. जब यहोशू ने लोगों को विदा किया था, तब इस्राएली देश को अपने अधिकार में कर लेने के लिये अपने अपने निज भाग पर गए।

6. After Joshua had dismissed them, the People of Israel went off to claim their allotted territories and take possession of the land.

7. और यहोशू के जीवन भर, और उन वृद्ध लोगों के जीवन भर जो यहोशू के मरने के बाद जीवित रहे और देख चुके थे कि यहोवा ने इस्राएल के लिये कैसे कैसे बड़े काम किए हैं, इस्राएली लोग यहोवा की सेवा करते रहे।

7. The people worshiped GOD throughout the lifetime of Joshua and the time of the leaders who survived him, leaders who had been in on all of GOD's great work that he had done for Israel.

8. निदान यहोवा का दास नून का पुत्रा यहोशू एक सौ दस वर्ष का होकर मर गया।

8. Then Joshua son of Nun, the servant of GOD, died. He was 110 years old.

9. और उसको तिम्नथेरेस में जो एप्रैम के पहाड़ी देश में गाश नाम पहाड़ की उत्तर अलंग पर है, उसी के भाग में मिट्टी दी गई।

9. They buried him in his allotted inheritance at Timnath Heres in the hills of Ephraim north of Mount Gaash.

10. और उस पीढ़ी के सब लोग भी अपने अपने पितरों में मिल गए; तब उसके बाद जो दूसरी पीढ़ी हुई उसके लोग न तो यहोवा को जानते थे और न उस काम को जो उस ने इस्राएल के लिये किया था।।

10. Eventually that entire generation died and was buried. Then another generation grew up that didn't know anything of GOD or the work he had done for Israel.

11. इसलिये इस्राएली वह करने लगे जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में बुरा है, और बाल नाम देवताओं की उपासना करने लगे;

11. The People of Israel did evil in GOD's sight:

12. वे अपने पूर्वजों के परमेश्वर यहोवा को, जो उन्हें मि देश से निकाल लाया था, त्यागकर पराये देवताओं की उपासना करने लगे, और उन्हें दण्डवत् किया; और यहोवा को रिस दिलाई।

12. they served Baal-gods; they deserted GOD, the God of their parents who had led them out of Egypt; they took up with other gods, gods of the peoples around them. They actually worshiped them! And oh, how they angered GOD

13. वे यहोवा को त्याग कर के बाल देवताओं और अशतोरेत देवियों की उपासना करने लगे।

13. as they worshiped god Baal and goddess Astarte!

14. इसलिये यहोवा का कोप इस्राएलियों पर भड़क उठा, और उस ने उनको लुटेरों के हाथ में कर दिया जो उन्हें लूटने लगे; और उस ने उनको चारों ओर के शत्रुओं के आधीन कर दिया; और वे फिर अपने शत्रुओं के साम्हने ठहर न सके।

14. GOD's anger was hot against Israel: He handed them off to plunderers who stripped them; he sold them cheap to enemies on all sides. They were helpless before their enemies.

15. जहां कहीं वे बाहर जाते वहां यहोवा का हाथ उनकी बुराई में लगा रहता था, जैसे यहोवा ने उन से कहा था, वरन यहोवा ने शपथ खाई थी; इस प्रकार से बड़े संकट में पड़ गए।

15. Every time they walked out the door GOD was with them--but for evil, just as GOD had said, just as he had sworn he would do. They were in a bad way.

16. तौभी यहोवा उनके लिये न्यायी ठहराता था जो उन्हें लूटनेवाले के हाथ से छुड़ाते थे।

16. But then GOD raised up judges who saved them from their plunderers.

17. परन्तु वे अपने न्यायियों की भी नहीं मानते थे; वरन व्यभिचारिन की नाईं पराये देवताओं के पीछे चलते और उन्हें दण्डवत् करते थे; उनके पूर्वज जो यहोवा की आज्ञाएं मानते थे, उनकी उस लीक को उन्हों ने शीघ्र ही छोड़ दिया? और उनके अनुसार न किया।

17. But they wouldn't listen to their judges; they prostituted themselves to other gods--worshiped them! They lost no time leaving the road walked by their parents, the road of obedience to GOD's commands. They refused to have anything to do with it.

18. और जब जब यहोवा उनके लिये न्यायी को ठहराता तब तब वह उस न्यायी के संग रहकर उसके जीवन भर उन्हें शत्रुओं के हाथ से छुड़ाता था; क्योंकि यहोवा उनका कराहना जो अन्धेर और उपद्रव करनेवालों के कारण होता था सुनकर दु:खी था।

18. When GOD was setting up judges for them, he would be right there with the judge: He would save them from their enemies' oppression as long as the judge was alive, for GOD was moved to compassion when he heard their groaning because of those who afflicted and beat them.

19. परन्तु जब न्यायी मर जाता, तब वे फिर पराये देवताओं के पीछे चलकर उनकी उपासना करते, और उन्हें दण्डवत् करके अपने पुरखाओं से अधिक बिगड़ जाते थे; और अपने बुरे कामों और हठीली चाल को नहीं छोड़ते थे।

19. But when the judge died, the people went right back to their old ways--but even worse than their parents!--running after other gods, serving and worshiping them. Stubborn as mules, they didn't drop a single evil practice.

20. इसलिये यहोवा का कोप इस्राएल पर भड़क उठा; और उस ने कहा, इस जाति ने उस वाचा को जो मैं ने उनके पूर्वजों से बान्धी थी तोड़ दिया, और मेरी बात नहीं मानी,

20. And GOD's anger blazed against Israel. He said, 'Because these people have thrown out my covenant that I commanded their parents and haven't listened to me,

21. इस कारण जिन जातियों को यहोशू मरते समय छोड़ गया है उन में से मैं अब किसी को उनके साम्हने से न निकालूंगा;

21. I'm not driving out one more person from the nations that Joshua left behind when he died.

22. जिस से उनके द्वारा मैं इस्राएलियों की परीक्षा करूं, कि जैसे उनके पूर्वज मेरे मार्ग पर चलते थे वैसे ही ये भी चलेंगे कि नहीं।

22. I'll use them to test Israel and see whether they stay on GOD's road and walk down it as their parents did.'

23. इसलिये यहोवा ने उन जातियों को एकाएक न निकाला, वरन रहने दिया, और उस ने उन्हें यहोशू के हाथ में भी उनको न सौंपा था।।

23. That's why GOD let those nations remain. He didn't drive them out or let Joshua get rid of them.
