1. बेलशस्सर नाम राजा ने अपने हजार प्रधानों के लिये बड़ी जेवनार की, और उन हजार लोगों के साम्हने दाखमधु पिया।।

1. King Belshazzar gave a big dinner. He invited a thousand of his nobles to it. He drank wine with them.

2. दाखमधु पीते पीते बेलशस्सर ने आज्ञा दी, कि सोने- चान्दी के जो पात्रा मेरे पिता नबूकदनेस्सर ने यरूशलेम के मन्दिर में से निकाले थे, उन्हें ले आओ कि राजा अपने प्रधानों, और रानियों और रखेलियों समेत उन में से पीए।

2. While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to his servants. He commanded them to bring in some gold and silver cups. They were the cups his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem. Belshazzar had them brought in so everyone could drink from them. That included the king himself, his nobles, his wives and his concubines.

3. तब जो सोेने के पात्रा यरूशलेम में परमेश्वर के भवन के मन्दिर में से निकाले गए थे, वे लाए गए; और राजा अपने प्रधानों, और रानियों, और रखेलियों समेत उन में से पीने लगा।।

3. So the servants brought in the gold cups that had been taken from God's temple in Jerusalem. The king and his nobles drank from them. So did his wives and concubines.

4. वे दाखमधु पी पीकर सोने, चान्दी, पीतल, लोहे, काठ और पत्थर के देवताओं की स्तुति कर ही रहे थे,

4. As they drank the wine, they praised their gods. The statues of those gods were made out of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood or stone.

5. कि उसी घड़ी मनुष्य के हाथ की सी कई उंगलियां निकलकर दीवट के साम्हने राजमन्दिर की भीत के चूने पर कुछ लिखने लगीं; और हाथ का जो भाग लिख रहा था वह राजा को दिखाई पड़ा।

5. Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared. They wrote something on the plaster of the palace wall. It happened near the lampstand. The king watched the hand as it wrote.

6. उसे देखकर राजा भयभीत हो गया, और वह अपने सोच में घबरा गया, और उसकी कटि के जोड़ ढ़ीले हो गए, और कांपते कांपते उसके घुटने एक दूसरे से लगने लगे।

6. His face turned pale. He became so afraid that his knees knocked together. His legs couldn't hold him up any longer.

7. तब राजा ने ऊंचे शब्द से पुकारकर तन्त्रियों, कसदियों और और होनहार बतानेवालों को हाजिर करवाने की आज्ञा दी। जब बाबुल के पण्डित पास आए, तब राज उन से कहने लगा, जो कोई वह लिखा हुआ पढ़कर उसका अर्थ मुझे समझाए उसे बैंजनी रंग का वस्त्रा और उसके गले में सोने की कण्ठमाला पहिनाई जाएगी; और मेरे राज्य में तीसरा वही प्रभुता करेगा।

7. The king sent for those who try to figure things out by using magic. He also sent for those who study the heavens. All of them were wise men in Babylon. He ordered that they be brought to him. He said to them, 'I want one of you to read this writing and tell me what it means. If you do, you will be dressed in purple clothes. A gold chain will be put around your neck. And you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.'

8. तब राजा के सब पण्डित लोग भीतर आए, परन्तु उस लिखे हुए को न पढ़ सके और न राजा को उसका अर्थ समझा सके।

8. Then all of the king's wise men came in. But they couldn't read the writing. They couldn't tell him what it meant.

9. इस पर बेलशस्सर राजा निपट घबरा गया और भयातुर हो गया; और उसके प्रधान भी बहुत व्याकुल हुए।।

9. So King Belshazzar became even more terrified. His face grew more pale. And his nobles were bewildered.

10. राजा और प्रधानों के वचनों को सुनकर, रानी जेवनार के घर में आई और कहने लगी, हे राजा, तू युगयुग जीवित रहे, अपने मन में न घबरा और न उदास हो।

10. The queen heard the king and his nobles talking. So she came into the dining hall. 'King Belshazzar, may you live forever!' she said. 'Don't be afraid! Don't look so pale!

11. तेरे राज्य में दानिरयेल एक पुरूष है जिसका नाम तेरे पिता ने बेलतशस्सर रखा था, उस में पवित्रा ईश्वरों की आत्मा रहती है, और उस राजा के दिनों में उस में प्रकाश, प्रवीणता और ईश्वरों के तुल्य बुद्धि पाई गई। और हे राजा, तेरा पिता जो राजा था, उस ने उसको सब ज्योतिषियों, तन्त्रियों, कसदियों और और होनहार बतानेवालों का प्रधान ठहराया था,

11. I know a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. He has understanding and wisdom and good sense just like the gods. That was discovered when your father Nebuchadnezzar was king. Nebuchadnezzar appointed him chief of those who tried to figure things out by using magic. He also put him in charge of those who studied the heavens.

12. क्योंकि उस में उत्तम आत्मा, ज्ञान और प्रवीणता, और स्वप्नों का फल बताने और पहेलियां खोलने, और सन्देह दूर करने की शक्ति पाई गई। इसलिये अब दानिरयेल बुलाया जाए, और वह इसका अर्थ बताएगा।।

12. The man's name is Daniel. Your father called him Belteshazzar. He has a clever mind and knowledge and understanding. He is also able to tell what dreams mean. He can explain riddles and solve hard problems. Send for him. He'll tell you what the writing means.'

13. तब दानिरयेल राजा के साम्हने भीतर बुलाया गया। राजा दानिरयेल से पूछने लगा, क्या तू वही दानिरयेल है जो मेरे पिता नबूकदनेस्सर राजा के यहूदा देश से लाए हुए यहूदी बंधुओं में से है?

13. So Daniel was brought to the king. The king said to him, 'Are you Daniel? Are you one of the prisoners my father the king brought here from Judah?

14. मैं ने तेरे विषय में सुना है कि ईश्वर की आत्मा तुझ में रहती है; और प्रकाश, प्रवीणता और उत्तम बुद्धि तुझ में पाई जाती है।

14. I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you. I've also heard that you have understanding and good sense and special wisdom.

15. देख, अभी पण्डित और तन्त्री लोग मेरे साम्हने इसलिये लाए गए थे कि यह लिखा हुआ पढ़ें और उसका अर्थ मुझे बताएं, परन्तु वे उस बात का अर्थ न समझा सके।

15. The wise men and those who practice magic were brought to me. They were asked to read this writing and tell me what it means. But they couldn't.

16. परन्तु मैं ने तेरे विषय में सुना है कि दानिरयेल भेद खोल सकता और सन्देह दूर कर सकता है। इसलिये अब यदि तू उस लिखे हुए को पढ़ सके और उसका अर्थ भी मुझे समझा सके, तो तुझे बैंजनी रंग का वस्त्रा, और तेरे गले में सोने की कण्ठमाला पहिनाई जाएगी, और राज्य में तीसरा तू ही प्रभुता करेगा।।

16. 'I have heard that you are able to explain things and solve hard problems. I hope you can read this writing and tell me what it means. If you can, you will be dressed in purple clothes. A gold chain will be put around your neck. And you will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.'

17. दानिरयेल ने राजा से कहा, अपने दान अपने ही पास रख; और जो बदला तू देना चाहता है, वह दूसरे को दे; वह लिखी हुई बात मैं राजा को पढ़ सुनाऊंगा, और उसका अर्थ भी तुझे समझाऊंगा।

17. Then Daniel answered the king. He said, 'You can keep your gifts for yourself. You can give your rewards to someone else. But I will read the writing for you. I'll tell you what it means.

18. हे राजा, परमप्रधान परमेश्वर ने तेरे पिता नबूकदनेस्सर को राज्य, बड़ाई, प्रतिष्ठा और प्रताप दिया था;

18. 'King Belshazzar, the Most High God was good to your father Nebuchadnezzar. He gave him authority and greatness and glory and honor.

19. और उस बड़ाई के कारण जो उस ने उसको दी थी, देश- देश और जाति जाति के सब लोग, और भिन्न- भिन्न भाषा बोलनेवाले उसके साम्हने कांपते और थरथराते थे, जिसे वह चाहता उसे वह घात करता था, और जिसको वह चाहता उसे वह जीवित रखता था जिसे वह चाहता उसे वह ऊंचा पद देता था, और जिसको वह चाहता उसे वह गिरा देता था।

19. God gave him a high position. Then all of the people from every nation and language became afraid of the king. He put to death anyone he wanted to. He spared anyone he wanted to spare. He gave high positions to anyone he wanted to. And he brought down anyone he wanted to bring down.

20. परन्तु जब उसका मन फूल उठा, और उसकी आत्मा कठोर हो गई, यहां तक कि वह अभिमान करने लगा, तब वह अपने राजसिंहासन पर से उतारा गया, और उसकी प्रतिष्ठा भंग की गई;

20. 'But his heart became very stubborn and proud. So he was removed from his royal throne. His glory was stripped away from him.

21. वह मनुष्यों में से निकाला गया, और उसका मन पशुओं का सा, और उसका निवास जंगली गदहों के बीच हो गया; वह बैलों की नाईं घास चरता, और उसका शरीर आकाश की ओस से भीगा करता था, जब तक कि उस ने जान न लिया कि परमप्रधान परमशॆवर मनुष्यों के राज्य में प्रभुता करता है और जिसे चाहता उसी को उस पर अधिकारी ठहराता है।

21. He was driven away from people. He was given the mind of an animal. He lived like the wild donkeys. He ate grass just as cattle do. His body became wet with the dew of heaven. He stayed that way until he recognized that the Most High God rules over all of the kingdoms of men. He puts anyone he wants to in charge of them.

22. तौभी, हे बेलशस्सर, तू जो उसका पुत्रा है, और यह सब कुछ जानता था, तौभी तेरा मन नम्र न हुआ।

22. 'But you knew all of that, Belshazzar. After all, you are Nebuchadnezzar's son. In spite of that, you are still proud.

23. वरन तू ने स्वर्ग के प्रभु के विरूद्ध सिर उठाकर उसके भवन के पात्रा मंगवाकर अपने साम्हने धरवा लिए, और अपने प्रधानों और रानियों और रखेलियों समेत तू ने उन में दाखमधु पिया; और चान्दी- सोने, पीतल, लोहे, काठ और पत्थर के देवता, जो न देखते न सुनते, न कुछ जानते हैं, उनकी तो स्तुति की, परन्तु परमेश्वर, जिसके हाथ में तेरा प्राण है, और जिसके वश में तेरा सब चलना फिरना है, उसका सन्मान तू ने नहीं किया।।

23. You have taken your stand against the Lord of heaven. You had your servants bring cups from his temple to you. You and your nobles drank wine from them. So did your wives and concubines. You praised your gods. The statues of those gods are made out of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood or stone. They can't see or hear or understand anything. But you didn't honor the God who holds in his hand your very life and everything you do.

24. तब ही यह हाथ का एक भाग उसी की ओर से प्रगट किया गया है और वे शब्द लिखे गए हैं।

24. So he sent the hand that wrote on the wall.

25. और जो शब्द लिखे गए वे ये हैं, मने, मने, तकेल, और ऊपर्सीन।

25. Here is what was written. mene, mene, tekel, parsin

26. इस वाक्य का अर्थ यह है, मने, अर्थात् परमेश्वर ने तेरे राज्य के दिन गिनकर उसका अन्त कर दिया है।

26. 'And here is what those words mean. #1 means that God has limited the time of your rule. He has brought it to an end.

27. तकेल, तू मानो तराजू में तौला गया और हलका पाया गया।

27. #1 means that you have been weighed on scales. And you haven't measured up to God's standard.

28. परेस, अर्थात् तेरा राज्य बांटकर मादियों और फारसियों को दिया गया है।।

28. #1 means that your authority over your kingdom will be taken away from you. It will be given to the Medes and Persians.'

29. तब बेलशस्सर ने आज्ञा दी, और दानिरयेल को बैंजनी रंग का वस्त्रा और उसके गले में सोने की कण्ठमाला पहिनाई गई; और ढिंढोरिये ने उसके विषय में पुकारा, कि राज्य में तीसरा दानिरयेल ही प्रभुता करेगा।।

29. Then Belshazzar commanded his servants to dress Daniel in purple clothes. So they did. They put a gold chain around his neck. And he was made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

30. उसी रात कसदियों का राजा बेलशस्सर मार डाला गया।

30. That very night Belshazzar, the king of Babylonia, was killed.

31. और दारा मादी जो कोई बासठ वर्ष का था राजगद्दी पर विराजमान हुआ।।

31. His kingdom was given to Darius the Mede. Darius was 62 years old.
