1. भला होता, कि मेरा सिर जल ही जल, और मेरी आंखें आँसुओं का सोता होतीं, कि मैं रात दिन अपने मारे हुए लोगों के लिये रोता रहता।

1. Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

2. भला होता कि मुझे जंगल में बटोहियों का कोई टिकाब मिलता कि मैं अपने लोगों को छोड़कर वहीं चला जाता ! क्योंकि वे सब व्यभिचारी हैं, वे विश्वासघातियों का समाज हैं।

2. Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of way-faring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they {are} all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

3. अपनी अपनी जीभ को वे धनुष की नाई झूठ होलने के लिये तैयार करते हैं, और देश में बलवन्त तो हो गए, परन्तु सच्चाई के लिये नहीं; वे बुराई पर बुराई बढ़ाते जाते हैं, और वे मुझ को जानते ही नहीं, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

3. And they bend their tongues {like} their bow {for} lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.

4. अपने अपने संगी से चौकस रहो, अपने भाई पर भी भरोसा न रखो; क्योंकि सब भाई निश्चय अड़ंगा मारेंगे, और हर एक पड़ोसी लुतराई करते फिरेंगे।

4. Take ye heed every one of his neighbor, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders.

5. वे एक दूसरे को ठगेंगे और सच नहीं बोलेंगे; उन्हों ने झूठ ही बोलना सीखा है; और कुटिलता ही में परिश्रम करते हैं।

5. And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, {and} weary themselves to commit iniquity.

6. तेरा निवास छल के बीच है; छल ही के कारण वे मेरा ज्ञान नहीं चाहते, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

6. Thy habitation {is} in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

7. इसलिये सेनाओं का यहोवा यों कहता है, देख, मैं उनको तपाकर परखूंगा, क्योंकि अपनी प्रजा के कारण मैं उन से और क्या कर सकता हूं?

7. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

8. उनकी जीभ काल के तीर के समान बेधनेवाली है, उस से छल की बातें निकलती हैं; वे मुंह से तो एक दूसरे से मेल की बात बोलते हैं पर मन ही मन एक दूसरे की घात में लगे रहते हैं।

8. Their tongue {is as} an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: {one} speaketh peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.

9. क्या मैं ऐसी बातों का दणड न दूं? यहोवा की सह वाणी है, क्या मैं ऐसी जाति से अपना पलटा न लूं?

9. Shall I not visit them for these {things}? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10. मैं पहाड़ों के लिये रो उठूंगा और शोक का गीत गाऊंगा, और जंगल की चराइयों के लिये विलाप का गीत गाऊंगा, क्योंकि वे ऐसे जल गए हैं कि कोई उन में से होकर नहीं चलता, और उन में ढोर का शब्द भी नहीं सुनाई पड़ता; पशु- पक्षी सब भाग गए हैं।

10. For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through {them}; neither can {men} hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast have fled; they are gone.

11. मैं यरूशलेम को डीह ही डीह करके गीदड़ों का स्थान बनाऊंगा; और यहूदा के नगरों को ऐसा उजाड़ दूंगा कि उन में कोई न बसेगा।

11. And I will make Jerusalem heaps, {and} a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.

12. जो बुध्दिमान मुरूष हो वह इसका भेद समझ ले, और जिस ने यहोवा के मुख से इसका कारण सुना हो वह बता दे। देश का नाश क्यों हुआ? क्यों वह जंगल की नाई ऐसा जल गया कि उस में से होकर कोई नहीं चलता?

12. Who {is} the wise man that may understand this? and {who is he} to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth {and} is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?

13. और यहोवा ने कहा, क्योंकि उन्हों ने मेरी व्यवस्था को जो मैं ने उनके आगे रखी थी छोड़ दिया; और न मेरी बात मानी और न उसके अनुसार चले हैं,

13. And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;

14. वरन वे उपने हठ पर बाल नाम देवताओं के पीछे चले, जैसा उनके पुरखाओं ने उनको सिखलाया।

14. But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

15. इस कारण, सेनाओं का यहोवा, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यों कहता है, सुन, मैं अपनी इस प्रजा को कड़वी वस्तु खिलाऊंगा और विष पिलाऊंगा।

15. Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, {even} this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

16. और मैं उन लोगों को ऐसी जातियों में तितर बितर करूंगा जिन्हें न तो वे न उनके पुरखा जानते थे; और जब तक उनका अन्त न हो जाए तब तक मेरी ओर से तलवार उनके पीछे पड़ेगी।

16. I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.

17. सेनाओं का यहोवा यों कहता है, सोचो, और विलाप करनेवालियों को बुलाओ; बुध्दिमान स्त्रियों को बतलवा भेजो;

17. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for skillful {women}, that they may come:

18. वे फुत करके हम लोगों के लिये शोक का गीत गाएं कि हमारी आंखों से आंसू बह चलें और हमारी पलकें जल बहाए।

18. And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

19. सिरयोन से शोक का यह गीत सुन पड़ता है, हम कैसे नाश हो गए ! हम क्यों लज्जा में पड़ गए हैं, क्योंकि हम को अपना देश छोड़ना पड़ा और हमारे घर गिरा दिए गए हैं।

19. For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we laid waste! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast {us} out.

20. इसलिये, हे स्त्रियो, यहोवा का यह वचन सुनो, और उसकी यह आज्ञा मानो; तुम अपनी अपनी बेटियों को शोक का गीत, और अपनी अपनी पड़ोसिनों को विलाप का गीत सिखाओ।

20. Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation.

21. क्योंकि मृत्यु हमारी खिड़कियों से होकर हमारे महलों में घुस आई है, कि, हमारी सड़कों में बच्चों को और चौकों में जवानों को मिटा दे।

21. For death hath come up into our windows, {and} hath entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, {and} the young men from the streets.

22. तू कह, यहोवा यों कहता है, मनुष्यों की लोथें ऐसी पड़ी रहेंगी जैसा खाद खेत के ऊपर, और पूलियां काटनेवाले के पीछे पड़ी रहती हैं, और उनका कोई उठानेवाला न होगा।

22. Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcasses of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvest-man, and none shall gather {them}.

23. यहोवा यों कहता है, बुध्दिमान अपनी बुध्दि पर घमणड न करे, न वीर अपनी वीरता पर, त धनी अपने धन पर घमणड करे;

23. Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise {man} glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty {man} glory in his might, let not the rich {man} glory in his riches:

24. परन्तु जो घमणड करे वह इसी बात पर घमणड करे, कि वह मुझे जानता और समझता हे, कि मैं ही वह यहोवा हूँ, जो पृथ्वी पर करूणा, न्याय और धर्म के काम करता है; क्योंकि मैं इन्हीं बातों से प्रसन्न रहता हूँ।

24. But let him that glorieth, glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I {am} the LORD who exercise loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these {things} I delight, saith the LORD.

25. देखो, यहोवा की यह वाणी है कि ऐसे दिन आनेवाले हैं कि जिनका खतना हुआ हो, उनको खतनारहितों के समान दणड दूंगा,

25. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all {them who are} circumcised with the uncircumcised;

26. अर्थात् मिस्रियों, यहूदियों, एदोमियों, अम्मोनियों, मोआबियों को, और उन रेगिस्तान के निवासियों के समान जो अपने गाल के बालों को मुंड़ा डालते हैं; क्योंकि ये सब जातियें तो खतनारहित हैं, और इस्राएल का सारा घराना भी मन में खतनारहित है।

26. Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all {that are} in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all {these} nations {are} uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel {are} uncircumcised in the heart.
