1. फिर जो वचन यिर्मयाह सब लोगों से कहता था, उनको मत्तान के पुत्रा शपन्याह, पशहूर के पुत्रा गदल्याह, शेलेम्याह के पुत्रा यूकल और मल्किरयाह के पुत्रा पशहूर ने सुना,

1. And Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,

2. कि, यहोवा यों कहता है कि जो कोई इस नगर में रहेगा वह तलवार, पहंगी ओर मरी से मरेगा; परन्तु जो कोई कसदियों के पास निकल भागे वह अपना प्राण बचाकर जीवित रहेगा।

2. Thus says Yahweh, He who remains in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans will live, and his life will be to him for a prey, and he will live.

3. यहोवा यों कहता है, यह नगर बाबुल के राजा की सेना के वश में कर दिया जाएगा और वह इसको ले लेगा।

3. Thus says Yahweh, This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.

4. इसलिये उन हाकिमों ने राजा से कहा कि उस पुरूष को मरवा डाल, क्योंकि वह जो इस नगर में बचे हुए योद्वाओं और अन्य सब लोगों से ऐसे ऐसे वचन कहता है जिस से उनके हाथ पांव ढीले हो जाते हैं। क्योंकि वह पुरूष इस प्रजा के लोगों की भलाई नहीं वरन बुराई ही चाहता है।

4. Then the princes said to the king, Let this man, we pray you, be put to death; since he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man does not seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

5. सिदकिरयाह राजा ने कहा, सुनो, वह तो तुम्हारे वश में हे; क्योंकि ऐसा नहीं हो सकता कि राजा तुम्हारे विरूद्व कुछ कर सके।

5. And Zedekiah the king said, Look, he is in your+ hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you+.

6. तब उन्हों ने यिर्मयाह को लेकर राजपुत्रा मल्किरयाह के उस गड़हे में जो पहरे के आंगन में था, रस्सियों से उतारकर डाल दिया। और उस गड़हे मे पानी नहीं केवल दलदल था, और यिर्मयाह कीचड़ में धंस गया।

6. Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

7. उस समय राजा बिन्यामीन के फाटक के पास बैठा था सो जब एबेदमेलेक कूशी ने जो राजभवन में एक खोजा था, सुना, कि उन्हों ने यिर्मयाह को गड़हे में डाल दिया है---

7. Now when Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin),

8. तब एबेदमेलेक राजभवन से निकलकर राजा से कहने लगा,

8. Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,

9. हे मेरे स्वामी, हे राजा, उन लोगों ने यिर्मयाह भविष्यद्वक्ता से जो कुछ किया है वह बुरा किया है, क्योंकि उन्हों ने उसको गड़हे में डाल दिया है; वहां वह भूख से मर जाएगा क्योंकि नगर में कुछ रोटी नहीं रही है।

9. My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.

10. तब राजा ने एबेदमेलेक कूशी को यह आज्ञा दी कि यहां से तीस पुरूष साथ लेकर यिर्मयाह भविष्यद्वक्ता को मरने से पहिले गड़हे में से निकाल।

10. Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.

11. सो एबेदमेलेक उतने पुरूषों को साथ लेकर राजभवन के भण्डार के तलघर में गया; और वहां से फटेपुराने कपड़े और चिथड़े लेकर यिर्मयाह के पास उस गड़हे में रस्सियों से उतार दिए।

11. So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

12. और एबेदमेलेक कूशी ने यिर्मयाह से कहा, ये पुराने कपड़े और चिथढ़े अपनी कांखों में रस्सियों के नीचे रख ले। सो यिर्मयाह ने वैसा ही किया।

12. And Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, Put now these rags and worn-out garments under your armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.

13. तब उन्हों ने यिर्मयाह को रस्सियों से खींचकर, गड़हे में से निकाला। और यिर्मयाह पहरे के आंगन में रहने लगा।

13. So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

14. सिदकिरयाह राजा ने यिर्मयाह भविष्यद्वक्ता को यहोवा के भवन के तीसरे द्वार में अपने पास बुलवा भेजा। और रजा ने यिर्मयाह से कहा, मैं तुझ से एक बात पुछता हूँ; मुझ से कुछ न छिपा।

14. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of Yahweh: and the king said to Jeremiah, I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me.

15. यिर्मयाह ने सिदकिरयाह से कहा, यदि मैं तुझे बताऊं, तो क्या तू मुझे मरवा न डालेगा? और चाहे मैं तुझे सम्मति भी दूं, तौभी तू मेरी न मानेगा।

15. Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.

16. तब सिदकिरयाह राजा ने अकेले में यिर्मयाह से शपथ खाई, यहोवा जिस ने हमारा यह जीव रचा है, उसके जीवन की सौगन्ध न मैं तो तुझे मरवा डालूंगा, और न उन मनुष्यों के वश में कर दूंगा जो तेरे प्राण के खोजी हैं।

16. So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As Yahweh lives, that made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.

17. यिर्मयाह ने सिदकिरयाह से कहा, सेनाओं का परमेश्वर यहोवा जो इस्राएल का परमेश्वर है, वह यों कहता है, यदि तू बाबुल के राजा के हाकिमों के पास सचमुच निकल जाए, तब तो तेरा प्राण बचेगा, और यह नगर फूंका न जाएगा, और तू अपने घराने समेत जीवित रहेगा।

17. Then said Jeremiah to Zedekiah, Thus says Yahweh, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burned with fire; and you will live, and your house.

18. परन्तु, यदि तू बाबुल के राजा के हाकिमों के पास न निकल जाए, तो यह नगर कसदियों के वश में कर दिया जाएगा, ओर वे इसे फूंक देंगे, और तू उनके हाथ से बच न सकेगा।

18. But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then will this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you will not escape out of their hand.

19. सिदकिरयाह ने यिर्मयाह से कहा, जो यहूदी लोग कसदियों के पास भाग गए हैं, मैं उन से डरता हूँ, ऐसा न हो कि मैं उनके वश में कर दिया जाऊं और वे मुझ से ठट्ठा करें।

19. And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen away to the Chaldeans, in case they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.

20. यिर्मयाह ने कहा, तू उनके वश में न कर दिया जाएगा; जो कुछ मैं तुझ से कहता हूँ उसे यहोवा की बात समझकर मान ले तब तेरा भला होगा, और तेरा प्राण बचेगा।

20. But Jeremiah said, They will not deliver you. Obey, I urge you, the voice of Yahweh, in that which I speak to you: so it will be well with you, and your soul will live.

21. और यदि तू निकल जाना स्वीकार न करे तो जो बात यहोवा ने मुझे दर्शन के द्वारा बताई है, वह यह हैे

21. But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that Yahweh has shown me:

22. देख, यहूदा के राजा के रनवास में जितनी स्त्रियां रह गई हैं, वे बाबुल के राजा के हाकिमों के पास निकाल कर पहुंचाई जाएंगी, और वे तुझ से कहेंगी, तेरे मित्रों ने तुझे बहकाया, और उनकी इच्छा पूरी हो गई; और जब तेरे पांव कीच में धंस गए तो वे पीछे फिर गए हैं।

22. look, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house will be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women will say, Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you: [now that] your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.

23. तेरी सब स्त्रियां और लड़केबाले कसदियों के पास निकाल कर पहुंचाए जाएंगे; और तू भी कसदियों के हाथ से न बचेगा, वरन तू पकड़कर बाबुल के राजा के वश में कर दिया जाएगा ओर इस नगर के फूंके जाने का कारण तू ही होगा।

23. And they will bring out all your wives and your sons to the Chaldeans; and you will not escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and you will cause this city to be burned with fire.

24. तब सिदकिरयाह ने यिर्मयाह से कहा, इन बातों को कोई न जानने पाए, तो तू मारा न जाएगा।

24. Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and you will not die.

25. यदि हाकिम लोग यह सुनकर कि मैं ने तुझ से बातचीत की है तेरे पास आकर कहने लगें, हमें बता कि तू ने राजा से क्या कहा, हम से कोई बात न छिपा, और हम तुझे न मरवा डालेंगे; और यह भी बता, कि राजा ने तुझ से क्या कहा,

25. But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and say to you, Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don't hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you:

26. तो तू उन से कहना, कि मैं ने राजा से गिड़गिड़ाकर बिनती की थी कि मुझे योनातान के घर में फिर बापिस न भेज नहीं तो वहां मर जाऊंगा।

26. then you will say to them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.

27. फिर सब हाकिमों ने यिर्मयाह के पास आकर पूछा, और जैसा राजा ने उसको आज्ञा दी थी, ठीक वैसा ही उस ने उनको उत्तर दिया। सो वे उस से और कुछ न बोले और न वह भेद खुला।

27. Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.

28. इस प्रकार जिस दिन यरूशलेम ले लिया गया उस दिन तक वह पहरे के आंगन ही में रहा।

28. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken. And it came to pass that Jerusalem was taken.
