1. यहोवा ने मुझ से यों कहा, जाकर सनी की एक पेटी मोल ले, उसे कमर में बान्ध और जल में मत भीगने दे।

1. The Lord said to me, 'Go and buy a linen belt. Put it around your waist. But do not let it get wet.'

2. तब मैं ने एक पेटी मोल लेकर यहोवा के वचन के अनुसार अपनी कमर में बान्ध ली।

2. So I bought a belt, just as the Lord had told me to do. And I put it around my waist.

3. तब तूसरी बार यहोवा का यह वचन मेरे पास पहुंचा कि

3. Then another message came to me from the Lord. He said,

4. जो पेटी तू ने मोल लेकर कटि में कस ली है, उसे परात के तीर पर ले जा और वहां उसे कड़ाडे पर की एक दरार में छिपा दे।

4. 'Take off the belt you bought and are wearing around your waist. Go to Perath. Hide the belt there in a crack in the rocks.'

5. यहोवा की इस आज्ञा के अनुसार मैं ने उसको परात के तीर पर ले जाकर छिपा दिया।

5. So I went and hid it at Perath. I did just as the Lord had told me to do.

6. बहुत दिनों के बाद यहोवा ने मुझ से कहा, उठ, फिर परात के पास जा, और जिस पेटी को मैं ने तुझे वहां छिपाने की आज्ञा दी उसे वहां से ले ले।

6. Many days later the Lord spoke to me again. He told me, 'Go to Perath. Get the belt I told you to hide there.'

7. तब मैं परात के पास गया ओर खोदकर जिस स्थान में मैं ने पेटी को छिपाया था, वहां से उसको निकाल लिया। और देखो, पेटी बिगड़ गई थी; वह किसी काम की न रही।

7. So I went to Perath. I dug up the belt. I took it from the place where I had hidden it. But it had rotted. It was completely useless.

8. तब यहोवा का यह वचन मेरे पास पहुचा, यहोवा यों कहता है,

8. Then another message came to me from the Lord. He said,

9. इसी प्रकार से मैं यहूदियों का गर्व, और यरूशलेम का बड़ा गर्व नष्ट कर दूंगा।

9. 'In the same way, I will destroy Judah's pride. And I will destroy the great pride of Jerusalem.

10. इस दुष्ट जाति के लोग जो मेरे वचन सुनने से इनकार करते हैं जो अपने मन के हठ पर चलते, दूसरे देवताओं के पीछे चलकर उनकी उपासना करते ओर उनको दण्डवत् करते हैं, वे इस पेटी के समान हो जाएंगे जो किसी काम की नहीं रही।

10. Those people are evil. They refuse to listen to what I say. They do what their stubborn hearts want them to do. They chase after other gods. They serve them and worship them. So they will be like this belt. They will be completely useless.

11. यहोवा की यह वाणी है कि जिस प्रकार से पेटी मनुष्य की कमर में कसी जाती है, उसी प्रकार से मैं ने इस्राएल के सारे घराने और यहूदा के सारे घराने को अपनी कटि में बान्ध लिया था कि वे मेरी प्रजा बनें और मेरे नाम और कीर्त्ति और शोभा का कारण हों, परन्तु उन्हों ने न माना।

11. A belt is tied around a man's waist. In the same way, I tied all of the people of Israel and Judah to me,' announces the Lord. 'I wanted them to be my people. They should have brought me fame and praise and honor. But they have not listened to me.

12. इसलिये तू उन से यह वचन कह, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, दाखमधु के सब कुप्पे दाखमधु से भर दिए जाएंगे। तब वे तुझ से कहेंगे, क्या हम नहीं जानते कि दाखमधु के सब कुप्पे दाखमधु से भर दिए जाएंगे?

12. 'Tell them, 'The Lord is the God of Israel. He says, 'Every wineskin should be filled with wine.' ' 'The people might say to you, 'Don't we know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?'

13. तब तू उन से कहना, यहोवा यों कहता है, देखो, मैं इस देश के सब रहनेवालों को, विशेष करके दाऊदवंश की गद्दी पर विराजमान राजा और याजक और भविष्यद्वक्ता आदि यरूशलेम के सब निवासियों को अपनी कोपरूपी मदिरा पिलाकर अचेत कर दूंगा।

13. If they do, tell them, 'The Lord says, 'I am going to fill with wine everyone who lives in this land. I will make the kings who sit on David's throne drunk. And I will fill with wine the priests, the prophets and everyone who lives in Jerusalem.

14. तब मैं उन्हें एक दूसरे से टकरा दूंगा; अर्थात् बाप को बेटे से, और बेटे को बाप से, यहोवा की यह वाणी है। मैं उन पर कोमलता नहीं दिखाऊंगा, न तरस खऊंगा और न दया करके उनको नष्ट होने से बचाऊंगा।

14. I will smash them against one another. I will punish parents and children alike,' announces the Lord. 'I will not feel sorry for them. I will not show them any kindness. My tender love for them will not keep me from destroying them.' ' '

15. देखो, और कान लगाओ, गर्व मत करो, क्योंकि यहोवा ने यों कहा है।

15. People of Judah, listen to me. Pay attention. Don't be proud. The Lord has spoken.

16. अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा की बड़ाई करो, इस से पहिले कि वह अन्धकार लाए और तुम्हारे पांव अन्धेरे पहाड़ों पर ठोकर खाएं, और जब तुम प्रकाश का आसरा देखो, तब वह उसको मृत्यु की छाया से बदल और उसे घोर अन्धकार बना दे।

16. Give glory to the Lord your God. Honor him before he sends darkness to cover the land. Do it before you trip and fall on the darkened hills. You hope that light will come. But he will turn it into thick darkness. He will change it to deep shadows.

17. और यदि तुम इसे न सुनो, तो मैं अकेले में तुम्हारे गर्व के कारण रोऊंगा, और मेरी आंखों से आंसुओं की धारा बहती रहेगी, क्योंकि यहोवा की भेड़ें बंधुआ कर ली गई हैं।

17. If you don't listen, I will sob in secret. Because you are so proud, I will sob bitterly. Tears will flow from my eyes. The Lord's flock will be taken away as prisoners.

18. राजा और राजमाता से कह, नीचे बैठ जाओ, क्योंकि तुम्हारे सिरों के शोभायमान मुकुट उतार लिए गए हैं।

18. Speak to the king and his mother. Tell them, 'Come down from your thrones. Your glorious crowns are about to fall from your heads.'

19. दक्खिन देश के नगर घेरे गए हैं, कोई उन्हें बचा न सकेगा; सम्पूर्ण यहूदी जाति बन्दी हो गई है, वह पूरी रीति से बंधुआई में चली गई है।

19. The gates of the cities in the Negev Desert will be shut tight. There won't be anyone to open them. You will be carried away as prisoners. You will be taken away completely.

20. अपनी ओखें उठाकर उनको देख जो उत्तर दिशा से आ रहे हैं। वह सुन्दर झुण्ड जो तुझे सौंपा गया था कहां है?

20. Jerusalem, look up! Your enemies are coming from the north. Where is the flock you were supposed to take care of? Where are the sheep you were so proud of?

21. जब वह तेरे उन मित्रों को तेरे ऊपर प्रधान ठहराएगा जिन्हें तू ने अपनी हानि करने की शिक्षा दी है, तब तू क्या कहेगी? क्या उस समय तुझे ज़च्चा की सी पीड़ाएं न उठेंगी?

21. You have worked hard to make special friends. But the Lord will let them rule over you. Then what will you say? Suffering will take hold of you. It will be like the pain of a woman having a baby.

22. और यदि तू अपने मन में सोचे कि ये बातें किस कारण मुझ पर पड़ी हैं, तो तेरे बड़े अधर्म के कारण तेरा आंचल उठाया गया है और तेरी एड़ियां बरियाई से नंगी की गई हैं।

22. Suppose you ask yourself, 'Why has this happened to me?' It's because you have committed so many sins. That's the reason your skirt has been torn off. That's why your body has been treated so badly.

23. क्या हबशी अपना चमड़ा, वा चीता अपने धब्बे बदल सकता है? यदि वे ऐसा कर सकें, तो तू भी, जो बुराई करना सीख गई है, भलाई कर सकेगी।

23. Can people from Ethiopia change their skin? Can leopards change their spots? It's the same with you. You have always done what is evil. So how can you do what is good?

24. इस कारण मैं उनको ऐसा तितर- बितर करूंगा, जैसा भूसा जंगल के पवन से तितर- बितर किया जाता है।

24. The Lord says, 'I will scatter you like straw that the desert wind blows away.

25. यहोवा की यह वाणी है, तेरा हिस्सा और मुझ से ठहराया हुआ तेरा भाग यही है, क्योंकि तू ने मुझे भूलकर झूठ पर भरोसा रखा है।

25. That is what will happen to you. I have appointed it for you,' announces the Lord. 'You have forgotten me. You have trusted in other gods.

26. इसलिये मैं भी तेरा आंचल तेरे मुंह तक उठाऊंगा, तब तेरी लाज जानी जाएगी।

26. So I will pull your skirt up over your face. Then people will see the shame of your naked body.

27. व्यभिचार और चोचला और छिनालपन आदि तेरे घिनौने काम जो तू ने मैदान और टीलों पर किए हैं, वे सब मैं ने देखे हैं। हे यरूशलेम, तुझ पर हाय ! तू अपने आप को कब तक शुठ्ठ न करेगी? और कितने दिन तक तू बनी रहेगी?

27. They will see that you have not been faithful to me. You have committed adultery with other gods. And you have acted like a prostitute who does not have any shame. I have seen what you did on the hills and in the fields. And I hate it. How terrible it will be for you, Jerusalem! How long will you choose to be 'unclean'?'
