1. हे बाबुल की कुमारी बेटी, उतर आ और धूलि पर बैठ; हे कसदियों की बेटी तू बिना सिंहासन भूमि पर बैठ! क्योंकि तू अब फिर कोमल और सुकुमार न कहलाएगी।

1. But as for thee (O daughter, thou virgin Babylon) thou shalt sit in the dust. Thou shalt sit upon the ground, and not in a throne, (O thou maiden of Chaldea) Thou shalt no more be called tender and pleasant.

2. चक्की लेकर आटा पीस, अपना घूंघट हटा और घाघरा समेंट ले और उघारी टांगों से नदियों को पार कर।

2. Thou shalt bring forth the quern and grind meal, put down thy stomacher make bare thy knees, and shalt wade thorow the water rivers.

3. तेरी नग्नता उघाड़ी जाएगी और तेरी लज्जा प्रगट होगी। मैं बदला लूंगा और किसी मनुष्य को ग्रहण न करूंगा।।

3. Thy shame shall be discovered, and thy previties shall be seen. For I will avenge me of thee, and no man shall let me:

4. हमारा छुटकारा देनेवाले का नाम सेनाओं का यहोवा और इस्राएल का पवित्रा है।।

4. sayeth our redeemer, which is called the LORD of Hosts, the holy one of Israel.

5. हे कसदियों की बेटी, चुपचाप बैठी रह और अन्धियारे में जो; क्योंकि तू अब राज्य राज्य की स्वामिन न कहलाएगी।

5. Sit still, hold thy tongue, and get thee into some dark corner, O daughter Chaldea, for thou shalt no more be called lady of kingdoms.

6. मैं ने अपनी प्रजा से क्रोधित होकर अपने निज भाग को अपवित्रा ठहराया और तेरे वश में कर दिया; तू न उन पर कुछ दया न की; बूढ़ों पर तू ने अपना अत्यन्त भारी जूआ रख दिया।

6. I was so wroth with my people, that I punished mine inheritance, and gave them into thy power. Nevertheless, thou shewdest them no mercy, but even the very aged men of them, didst thou oppress right sore with thy yoke,

7. तू ने कहा, मैं सर्वदा स्वामिन बनी रहूंगी, सो तू ने अपने मन में इन बातों पर विचार न किया और यह भी न सोचा कि उनका क्या फल होगा।।

7. and thou thoughtest thus. I shall be lady for ever. And beside all that, thou hast not regarded these things, neither cast, what should come after.

8. इसलिये सुन, तू जो राग- रंग में उलझी हुई निडर बैठी रहती है और मन में कहती है कि मैं ही हूं, और मुझे छोड़ कोई दूसरा नहीं; मैं विधवा की नाईं न बैठूंगी और न मेरे लड़केबोल मिटेंगे।

8. Hear now therefore, thou willful, that sittest so careless, and speakest thus in thine heart: I am alone, and without me is there none: I shall never be widow, nor desolate again.

9. सुन, ये दोनों दु:ख अर्थात् लड़कों का जाता रहता और विधवा हो जाना, अचानक एक ही दिन तुझ पर आ पडेंगे। तेरे बहुत से टोनों और तेरे भारी भारी तन्त्रा- मन्त्रों के रहते भी ये तुझ पर अपने पूरे बल से आ पड़ेंगे।।

9. And yet both these things shall come to thee upon one day in the twinkling of an eye: Namely widowhood, and desolation. They shall mightily fall upon thee, for the multitude of thy witches, and for the great heap of thy conjurers.

10. तू ने अपनी दुष्टता पर भरोसा रखा, तू ने कहा, मुझे कोई नहीं देखता; तेरी बुद्धि और ज्ञान ने तुझे बहकाया और तू ने अपने मन में कहा, मैं ही हूं और मेरे सिवाय कोई दूसरा नहीं।

10. For thou hast comforted thyself in thy deceitfulness, and hast said: No man seeth me. Thine own wisdom and cunning hath deceived thee. In that thou hast said: I am alone, and without me there is none.

11. परन्तु तेरी ऐसी दुर्गती होगी जिसका मन्त्रा तू नहीं जानती, और तुझ पर ऐसी विपत्ति पड़ेगी कि तू प्रायश्चित करके उसका निवारण न कर सकेगी; अचानक विनाश तुझ पर आ पड़ेगा जिसका तुझे कुछ भी पता नहीं।।

11. Therefore shall trouble come upon thee, and thou shalt not know, from whence it shall arise. Mischief shalt fall upon thee, which thou shalt not be able to put off. A sudden(sodane) misery shall come upon thee, or ever thou be aware.(awarre)

12. अपने तन्त्रा मन्त्रा और बहुत से टोनहों को, जिनका तू ने बाल्यावस्था ही से अभ्यास किया है उपयोग में ला, सम्भव है तू उन से लाभ उठा सके या उनके बल से स्थिर रह सके।

12. Now go to thy conjurers, and to the multitude of thy witches (whom thou hast been acquainted withal from thy youth) if they may help thee, or strengthen thee.

13. तू तो युक्ति करते करते थक गई है; अब तेरे ज्योतिषी जो नक्षत्रों को ध्यान से देखते और नये नये चान्द को देखकर होनहार बताते हैं, वे खड़े होकर तुझे उन बातों से बचाए जो तुझ पर घटेंगी।।

13. Thou hast hither to had many counsels of them, so let the heaven gazers and the beholders of stars come on now and deliver thee: yea and let them shew, when these new things shall come upon thee.

14. देख; वे भूसे के समान होकर आग से भस्म हो जाएंगे; वे अपने प्राणों को ज्वाला से न बचा सकेंगे। वह आग तापने के लिये नहीं, न ऐसी होगी जिसके साम्हने कोई बैठ सके!

14. Behold, they shall be like straw, which if it be kindled with fire, no man may rid it for the vehemence of the flame: And yet it giveth no cinders to warm a man by, nor clear fire to sit by.

15. जिनके लिये तू परिश्रम करती आई है वे सब तेरे लिये वैसे ही होंगे, और जो तेरी युवावस्था से तेरे संग व्योपार करते आए हैं, उन मेसे प्रत्येक अपनी अपनी दिशा की ओर चले जाएंगे; तेरा बचानेवाला कोई न रहेगा।।

15. Even so shall they be unto thee whom thou hast used and occupied from thy youth. Every one shall shew thee his erroneous way, yet shall none of them defend thee.
