1. अरयूब ने और भी अपनी गूढ़ बात उठाई और कहा,

2. भला होता, कि मेरी दशा बीते हुए महीनों की सी होती, जिन दिनों में ईश्वर मेरी रक्षा करता था,

2. Who yyueth to me, that I be bisidis the elde monethis, bi the daies in whiche God kepte me?

3. जब उसके दीपक का प्रकाश मेरे सिर पर रहता था, और उस से उजियाला पाकर मैं अन्धेरे में चलता था।

3. Whanne his lanterne schynede on myn heed, and Y yede in derknessis at his liyt.

4. वे तो मेरी जवानी के दिन थे, जब ईश्वर की मित्राता मेरे डेरे पर प्रगट होती थी।

4. As Y was in the daies of my yongthe, whanne in priuete God was in my tabernacle.

5. उस समय तक तो सर्वशक्तिमान मेरे संग रहता था, और मेरे लड़केबाले मेरे चारों ओर रहते थे।

5. Whanne Almyyti God was with me, and my children weren in my cumpas;

6. तब मैं अपने पगों को मलाई से धोता था और मेरे पास की चट्टानों से तेल की धाराएं बहा करती थीं।

6. whanne Y waischide my feet in botere, and the stoon schedde out to me the stremes of oile;

7. जब जब मैं नगर के फाटक की ओर चलकर खुले स्थान में अपने बैठने का स्थान तैयार करता था,

7. whanne Y yede forth to the yate of the citee, and in the street thei maden redi a chaier to me.

8. तब तब जवान मुझे देखकर छिप जाते, और पुरनिये उठकर खड़े हो जाते थे।

8. Yonge men, `that is, wantoun, sien me, and weren hid, and elde men risynge vp stoden;

9. हाकिम लोग भी बोलने से रूक जाते, और हाथ से मुंह मूंदे रहते थे।

9. princes ceessiden to speke, and puttiden the fyngur on her mouth;

10. प्रधान लोग चुप रहते थे और उनकी जीभ तालू से सट जाती थी।

10. duykis refreyneden her vois, and her tunge cleuyde to her throte.

11. क्योंकि जब कोई मेरा समाचार सुनता, तब वह मुझे धन्य कहता था, और जब कोई मुझे देखता, तब मेरे विषय साक्षी देता था;

11. An eere herynge blesside me, and an iye seynge yeldide witnessyng to me;

12. क्योंकि मैं दोहाई देनेवाले दीन जन को, और असहाय अनाथ को भी छुड़ाता था।

12. for Y hadde delyueride a pore man criynge, and a fadirles child, that hadde noon helpere.

13. जो नाश होने पर था मुझे आशीर्वाद देता था, और मेरे कारण विधवा आनन्द के मारे गाती थी।

13. The blessyng of a man `to perische cam on me, and Y coumfortide the herte of a widewe.

14. मैं धर्म को पहिने रहा, और वह मुझे ढांके रहा; मेरा न्याय का काम मेरे लिये बागे और सुन्दर पगड़ी का काम देता था।

14. Y was clothid with riytfulnesse; and Y clothide me as with a cloth, and with my `doom a diademe.

15. मैं अन्धों के लिये आंखें, और लंगड़ों के लिये पांव ठहरता था।

15. Y was iye `to a blynde man, and foot to a crokyd man.

16. दरिद्र लोगों का मैं पिता ठहरता था, और जो मेरी पहिचान का न था उसके मुक़ मे का हाल मैं पूछताछ करके जान लेता था।

16. Y was a fadir of pore men; and Y enqueride most diligentli the cause, which Y knew not.

17. मैं कुटिल मनुष्यों की डाढ़ें तोड़ डालता, और उनका शिकार उनके मुंह से छीनकर बचा लेता था।

17. Y al tobrak the grete teeth of the wickid man, and Y took awei prey fro hise teeth.

18. तब मैं सोचता था, कि मेरे दिन बालू के किनकों के समान अनगिनत होंगे, और अपने ही बसेरे में मेरा प्राण छूटेगा।

18. And Y seide, Y schal die in my nest; and as a palm tre Y schal multiplie daies.

19. मेरी जड़ जल की ओर फैली, और मेरी डाली पर ओस रात भर पड़ी,

19. My roote is openyde bisidis watris, and deew schal dwelle in my repyng.

20. मेरी महिमा ज्यों की त्यों बनी रहेगी, और मेरा धनुष मेरे हाथ में सदा नया होता जाएगा।

20. My glorie schal euere be renulid, and my bouwe schal be astorid in myn hond.

21. लोग मेरी ही ओर कान लगाकर ठहरे रहते थे और मेरी सम्मति सुनकर चुप रहते थे।

21. Thei, that herden me, abiden my sentence; and thei weren ententif, and weren stille to my counsel.

22. जब मैं बोल चुकता था, तब वे और कुछ न बोलते थे, मेरी बातें उन पर मेंह की ताई बरसा करती थीं।

22. Thei dursten no thing adde to my wordis; and my speche droppide on hem.

23. जैसे लोग बरसात की वैसे ही मेरी भी बाट देखते थे; और जैसे बरसात के अन्त की वर्षा के लिये वैसे ही वे मुंह पसारे रहते थे।

23. Thei abididen me as reyn; and thei openyden her mouth as to the softe reyn `comynge late.

24. जब उनको कुछ आशा न रहती थी तब मैं हंसकर उनको प्रसन्न करता था; और कोई मेरे मुंह को बिगाड़ न सकता था।

24. If ony tyme Y leiyide to hem, thei bileueden not; and the liyt of my cheer felde not doun in to erthe.

25. मैं उनका मार्ग चुन लेता, और उन में मुख्य ठहरकर बैठा करता था, और जैसा सेना में राजा वा विलाप करनेवालों के बीच शान्तिदाता, वैसा ही मैं रहता था।

25. If Y wolde go to hem, Y sat the firste; and whanne Y sat as kyng, while the oost stood aboute, netheles Y was comfortour of hem that morenyden.
