1. अरयूब ने और भी अपनी गूढ़ बात उठाई और कहा,

1. Job continued to speak. He said,

2. भला होता, कि मेरी दशा बीते हुए महीनों की सी होती, जिन दिनों में ईश्वर मेरी रक्षा करता था,

2. 'How I long for the good old days! That's when God watched over me.

3. जब उसके दीपक का प्रकाश मेरे सिर पर रहता था, और उस से उजियाला पाकर मैं अन्धेरे में चलता था।

3. The light of his lamp shone on me. I walked through darkness by his light.

4. वे तो मेरी जवानी के दिन थे, जब ईश्वर की मित्राता मेरे डेरे पर प्रगट होती थी।

4. Those were the best days of my life. That's when God's friendship blessed my house.

5. उस समय तक तो सर्वशक्तिमान मेरे संग रहता था, और मेरे लड़केबाले मेरे चारों ओर रहते थे।

5. The Mighty One was still with me. My children were all around me.

6. तब मैं अपने पगों को मलाई से धोता था और मेरे पास की चट्टानों से तेल की धाराएं बहा करती थीं।

6. The path in front of me was like sweet cream. It was as if the rock poured out olive oil for me.

7. जब जब मैं नगर के फाटक की ओर चलकर खुले स्थान में अपने बैठने का स्थान तैयार करता था,

7. 'In those days I went to the city gate. I took my seat as a member of the council.

8. तब तब जवान मुझे देखकर छिप जाते, और पुरनिये उठकर खड़े हो जाते थे।

8. Young people who saw me stepped to one side. Old people stood up as I approached.

9. हाकिम लोग भी बोलने से रूक जाते, और हाथ से मुंह मूंदे रहते थे।

9. The leaders stopped speaking. They covered their mouths with their hands.

10. प्रधान लोग चुप रहते थे और उनकी जीभ तालू से सट जाती थी।

10. The voices of the nobles became quiet. Their tongues stuck to the roofs of their mouths.

11. क्योंकि जब कोई मेरा समाचार सुनता, तब वह मुझे धन्य कहता था, और जब कोई मुझे देखता, तब मेरे विषय साक्षी देता था;

11. Everyone who heard me said good things about me. Those who saw me honored me.

12. क्योंकि मैं दोहाई देनेवाले दीन जन को, और असहाय अनाथ को भी छुड़ाता था।

12. That's because I saved poor people who cried out for help. I saved helpless children whose fathers had died.

13. जो नाश होने पर था मुझे आशीर्वाद देता था, और मेरे कारण विधवा आनन्द के मारे गाती थी।

13. Those who were dying gave me their blessing. I made the hearts of widows sing.

14. मैं धर्म को पहिने रहा, और वह मुझे ढांके रहा; मेरा न्याय का काम मेरे लिये बागे और सुन्दर पगड़ी का काम देता था।

14. I put on a godly life as if it were my clothes. Fairness was my robe and my turban.

15. मैं अन्धों के लिये आंखें, और लंगड़ों के लिये पांव ठहरता था।

15. I was like eyes for those who were blind. I was like feet for those who couldn't walk.

16. दरिद्र लोगों का मैं पिता ठहरता था, और जो मेरी पहिचान का न था उसके मुक़ मे का हाल मैं पूछताछ करके जान लेता था।

16. I was like a father to needy people. I stood up for strangers in court.

17. मैं कुटिल मनुष्यों की डाढ़ें तोड़ डालता, और उनका शिकार उनके मुंह से छीनकर बचा लेता था।

17. Sinners are like animals that have powerful teeth. But I took from their mouths the people they had caught.

18. तब मैं सोचता था, कि मेरे दिन बालू के किनकों के समान अनगिनत होंगे, और अपने ही बसेरे में मेरा प्राण छूटेगा।

18. 'I thought, 'I'll die in my own house. The days of my life will be as many as the grains of sand.

19. मेरी जड़ जल की ओर फैली, और मेरी डाली पर ओस रात भर पड़ी,

19. My roots will reach down to the water. The dew will lie all night on my branches.

20. मेरी महिमा ज्यों की त्यों बनी रहेगी, और मेरा धनुष मेरे हाथ में सदा नया होता जाएगा।

20. I will remain healthy and strong. My bow will stay as good as new in my hand.'

21. लोग मेरी ही ओर कान लगाकर ठहरे रहते थे और मेरी सम्मति सुनकर चुप रहते थे।

21. 'People wanted to hear what I had to say. They waited silently for the advice I gave them.

22. जब मैं बोल चुकता था, तब वे और कुछ न बोलते थे, मेरी बातें उन पर मेंह की ताई बरसा करती थीं।

22. After I had spoken, they didn't speak anymore. My words fell gently on their ears.

23. जैसे लोग बरसात की वैसे ही मेरी भी बाट देखते थे; और जैसे बरसात के अन्त की वर्षा के लिये वैसे ही वे मुंह पसारे रहते थे।

23. They waited for me just as they would wait for showers. They drank my words just as they would drink the spring rain.

24. जब उनको कुछ आशा न रहती थी तब मैं हंसकर उनको प्रसन्न करता था; और कोई मेरे मुंह को बिगाड़ न सकता था।

24. When I smiled at them, they could hardly believe it. The light of my face lifted their spirits.

25. मैं उनका मार्ग चुन लेता, और उन में मुख्य ठहरकर बैठा करता था, और जैसा सेना में राजा वा विलाप करनेवालों के बीच शान्तिदाता, वैसा ही मैं रहता था।

25. I chose the way they should go. I sat as their chief. I lived as a king lives among his troops. I was like someone who comforts those who are sad.
