1. तब हाग्गै नामक नबी और इद्दॊ का पोता जकर्याह यहूदा और यरूशलेम के यहूदियों से नबूवत करने लगे, उन्हों ने इस्राएल के परमेश्वर के नाम से उन से नबूवत की।

1. Then were moved to prophesy, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo, the prophets, unto the Jews who were in Judaea and in Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, unto them.

2. तब शालतीएल का पुत्रा जरूब्बाबेल और योसादाक का पुत्रा येशू, कमर बान्धकर परमेश्वर के भवन को जो यरूशलेम में है बनाने लगे; और परमेश्वर के वे नबी उनका साथ देते रहे।

2. Then arose Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, and, with them, were the prophets of God, strengthening them.

3. उसी समय महानद के इस पार का तत्तनै नाम अधिपति और शतब जनै अपने सहचरियों समेत उनके पास जाकर यों पूछने लगे, कि इस भवन के बनाने और इस शहरपनाह के खड़े करने की किस ने तुम को आज्ञा दी है?

3. At that time, came unto them Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their associates, and, thus, spake they unto them, Who hath issued unto you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

4. तब हम लोगों से यह कहा, कि इस भवन के बनानेवालों के क्या क्या नाम हैं?

4. Then, after this manner, spake we unto them, What are the names of these men, who, this building, do rear?

5. परन्तु यहूदियों के पुरनियों के परमेश्वर की दृष्टि उन पर रही, इसलिये जब तक इस बात की चर्चा दारा से न की गई और इसके विषय चिट्ठी के द्वारा उत्तर न मिला, तब तक उन्हों ने इनको न रोका।

5. Nevertheless, the eye of their God, was upon the elders of Judah, and they did not forbid them, until the matter, unto Darius, should come, and, then, answer be returned by letter, concerning this.

6. जो चिट्ठी महानद के इस पार के अधिपति तत्तनै और शतब जनै और महानद के इस पार के उनके सहचरी अपार्सकियों ने राजा दाना के पास भेजी उसकी नकल यह है;

6. A copy of the letter which Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his associates, the Apharsachites, who were Beyond the Rivet, sent unto Darius the king:

7. उन्हों ने उसको एक चिट्ठी लिखी, जिस में यह लिखा था : कि राजा दारा का कुशल क्षेम सब प्रकार से हो।

7. a message, sent they unto him, and, thus, was it written therein, Unto Darius the king, all prosperity!

8. राजा को विदित हो, कि हम लोग यहूदा नाम प्रान्त में महान परमेश्वर के भवन के पास गए थे, वह बड़े बड़े पत्थ्रों से बन रहा है, और उसकी भीतों में कड़ियां जुड़ रही हैं; और यह काम उन लोगों से फुत के साथ हो रहा है, और सुफल भी होता जाता है।

8. Be it known unto the king, that we journeyed into the province of Judah, unto the house of the Great God, and, the same, is being built with large stones, and, timber, is being laid in the walls, and, this work, with speed, is being done, and is prospering in their hands.

9. इसलिये हम ने उन पुरनियों से यों पूछा, कि यह भवन बनवाने, और यह शहरपनाह खड़ी करने की आज्ञा किस ने तुम्हें दी?

9. Then asked we of these elders, thus, we said to them, Who hath issued to you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

10. और हम ने उनके नाम भी पूछे, कि हम उनके मुख्य पुरूषों के नाम लिखकर तुझ को जता सकें।

10. Yea, their names also, asked we of them, to certify thee, that we might write the name, of the men who are at their head.

11. और उन्हों ने हमें यों उत्तर दिया, कि हम तो शकाश और पृथ्वी के परमेश्वर के दास हैं, और जिस भवन को बहुत वर्ष हुए इस्राएलियों के एक बड़े राजा ने बनाकर तैयार किया था, उसी को हम बना रहे हैं।

11. And, thus, returned they, answer, to us saying, We, are servants of the God of the heavens and the earth, and are building the house which was built these many years ago, which, a great king of Israel, built and completed.

12. जब हमारे पुरखाओं ने स्वर्ग के परमेश्वर को रिस दिलाई थी, तब उस ने उन्हें बाबेल के कसदी राजा नबूकदनेस्सर के हाथ में कर दिया था, और उस ने इस भवन को नाश किया और लोगों को बन्धुआ करके बाबेल को ले गया।

12. But, after that our fathers had provoked the God of the heavens to wrath, he delivered them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, and, this house, he destroyed, and, the people, he exiled to Babylon.

13. परन्तु बाबेल के राजा कुस्रू के पहिले वर्ष में उसी कुस्रू राजा ने परमेश्वर के इस भवन के बनाने की आज्ञा दी

13. Howbeit, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king, issued an edict, this house of God, to build.

14. और परमेश्वर के भवन के जो सोने और चान्दी के पात्रा नबूकदनेस्सर यरूशलेम के मन्दिर में से निकलवाकर बाबेल के मन्दिर में ले गया था, उनको राजा कुस्रू ने बाबेल के मन्दिर में से निकलवाकर शेशबस्सर नामक एक पुरूष को जिसे उस ने अधिपति ठहरा दिया था, सौंप दिया।

14. Moreover also, the utensils of the house of God, of gold and silver, which, Nebuchadnezzar, had brought forth out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, and had brought into the temple of Babylon, Cyrus the king, brought them forth, out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered to one Sheshbazzar by name, whom he made, pasha;

15. और उस ने उससे कहा, ये पात्रा ले जाकर यरूशलेम के मन्दिर में रख, और परमेश्वर का वह भवन अपने स्थान पर बनाया जाए।

15. and said to him These utensils, take, go carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let, the house of God, be built in its place.

16. तब उसी शेशबस्सर ने आकर परमेश्वर के भवन की जो यरूशलेम में है नेव डाली; और तब से अब तक यह बन रहा है, परन्तु अब तक नहीं बन पाया।

16. Then, this Sheshbazzar, came, he laid the foundations of the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, and, since then, even until now, it hath been in building, and is not finished.

17. अब यदि राजा को अच्छा लगे तो बाबेल के राजभणडार में इस बात की खोज की जाए, कि राजा कुस्रू ने सचमुच परमेश्वर के भवन के जो यरूशलेम में है बनवाने की आज्ञा दी थी, या नहीं। तब राजा इस विषय में अपनी इच्छा हम को बताए।

17. Now, therefore, if, unto the king, it seem good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king which is there, in Babylon, whether it be so, that, from Cyrus the king, issued an edict, to build this house of God, in Jerusalem, and, the pleasure of the king concerning this, let him send unto us.
