1. जब योशिरयाह राज्य करने लगा तब वह आठ वर्ष का था, और यरूशलेम में इकतीस वर्ष तक राज्य करता रहा।

1. Yoshiyahu was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Yerushalayim.

2. उस ने वह किया जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में ठीक है, और जिन माग पर उसका मूलपुरूष दाऊद चलता रहा, उन्हीं पर वह भी चला करता था और उस से न तो दाहिनी ओर मूड़ा, और न बाईं ओर।

2. He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn't turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

3. वह लड़का ही था, अर्थात उसको गद्दी पर बैठे आठ वर्ष पूरे भी न हुए थे कि अपने मूलमुरूष दाऊद के परमेश्वर की खोज करने लगा, और बारहवें वर्ष में वह ऊंचे स्थानों और अशॆरा नाम मूरतों को और खुदी और ढली हुई मूरतों को दूर करके, यहूदा और यरूशलेम को शुठ्ठ करने लगा।

3. For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Yehudah and Yerushalayim from the high places, and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

4. और बालदेवताओं की वेदियां उसके साम्हने तोड़ डाली गई, और सूर्य की प्रतिमायें जो उनके ऊपर ऊंचे पर थी, उस ने काट डालीं, और अशेरा नाम, और खुदी और ढली हुई मूरतों को उस ने तोड़कर पीस डाला, और उनकी बुकनी उन लोगों की कबरों पर छितरा दी, जो उनको बलि चढ़ाते थे।

4. They broke down the altars of the Ba`alim in his presence; and the sun-images that were on high above them he hewed down; and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

5. और पुजारियों की हडि्डयां उस ने उन्हीं की वेदियों पर जलाई। यों उस ने यहूदा और यरूशलेम को शुठ्ठ किया।

5. He burnt the bones of the Kohanim on their altars, and purged Yehudah and Yerushalayim.

6. फिर मनश्शे, एप्रैम और शिमोन के बरन नप्ताली तक के नगरों के खणडहरों में, उस ने वेदियों को तोड़ डाला,

6. So did he in the cities of Menashsheh and Efrayim and Shim`on, even to Naftali, in their ruins round about.

7. और अशेरा नाम और खुदी हुई मूरतों को पीसकर बुकनी कर डाला, और इस्राएल के सारे देश की सूर्य की सब प्रतिमाओं को काटकर यरूशलेम को लौट गया।

7. He broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the engraved images into powder, and hewed down all the sun-images throughout all Eretz-Yisra'el, and returned to Yerushalayim.

8. फिर अपने राज्य के अठारहवें वर्ष में जब वह देश और भवन दोनों को शुठ्ठ कर चुका, तब उस ने असल्याह के पुत्रा शापान और नगर के हाकिम मासेयाह और योआहाज के पुत्रा इतिहास के लेखक योआह को अपने परमेश्वर यहोवा के भवन की मरम्मत कराने के लिये भेज दिया।

8. Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shafan the son of Atzalyahu, and Ma`aseyah the governor of the city, and Yo'ach the son of Yo'achaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

9. सो उन्हों ने हिल्किरयाह महायाजक के पास जाकर जो रूपया परमेश्वर के भवन में लाया गया था, अर्थात् जो लेवीय दरबानों ने मनश्शियों, एप्रैमियों और सब बचे हुए इस्राएलियों से और सब यहूदियों और बिन्यामीनियों से और यरूशलेम के निवासियों के हाथ से लेकर इकट्ठा किया था, उसको सौंप दिया।

9. They came to Hilkiyah the Kohen Gadol, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Menashsheh and Efrayim, and of all the remnant of Yisra'el, and of all Yehudah and Binyamin, and of the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.

10. अर्थात् उन्हों ने उसे उन काम करनेवालों के हाथ सौंप दिया जो यहोवा के भवन के काम पर मुखिये थे, और यहोवा के भवन के उन काम करनेवालों ने उसे भवन में जो कुछ टूटा फूटा था, उसकी मरम्मत करने में लगाया।

10. They delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and the workmen who labored in the house of the LORD gave it to mend and repair the house;

11. अर्थात् उन्हों ने उसे बढ़इयों और राजों को दिया कि वे गढ़े हुए पत्थर और जोड़ों के लिये लकड़ी मोल लें, और उन घरों को पाटें जो यहूदा के राजाओं ने नाश कर दिए थे।

11. even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Yehudah had destroyed.

12. और वे मनुष्य सच्चाई से काम करते थे, और उनके अधिकारी मरारीय, यहत और ओबद्याह, लेवीय और कहाती, जकर्याह और मशुल्लाम काम चलानेवाले और गाने- बजाने का भेद सब जाननेवाले लेवीय भी थे।

12. The men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Yachat and `Ovadyah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zekharyah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kehati, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.

13. फिर वे बोझियों के अधिकारी थे और भांति भांति की सेवकाई और काम चलानेवाले थे, और कुछ लेवीय मुंशी सरदार और दरबान थे।

13. Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every manner of service: and of the Levites there were Sofrim, and officers, and porters.

14. जब वे उस रूपये को जो यहोवा के भवन में पहुंचाया गया था, निकाल रहे थे, तब हिल्किरयाह याजक को मूसा के द्वारा दी हुई यहोवा की व्यवस्था की पुस्तक मिली।

14. When they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiyah the Kohen found the book of the law of the LORD given by Moshe.

15. तब हिल्किरयाह ने शापान मंत्री से कहा, मुझे यहोवा के भवन में व्यवस्था की पुस्तक मिली है; तब हिल्किरयाह ने शापान को वह पुस्तक दी।

15. Hilkiyah answered Shafan the Sofer, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. Hilkiyah delivered the book to Shafan.

16. तब शापान उस पुस्तक को राजा के पास ले गया, और यह सन्देश दिया, कि जो जो काम तेरे कर्मचारियों को सौंपा गया था उसे वे कर रहे हैं।

16. Shafan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

17. और जो रूपया यहोवा के भवन में मिला, उसको उन्हों ने उणडेलकर मुखियों और कारीगरों के हाथों में सौंप दिया है।

17. They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.

18. फिर शापान मंत्री ने राजा को यह भी बता दिया कि हिल्किरयाह याजक ने मुझे एक पुस्तक दी है तब शपान ने उस में से राजा को पढ़कर सुनाया।

18. Shafan the Sofer told the king, saying, Hilkiyah the Kohen has delivered me a book. Shafan read therein before the king.

19. व्यवस्था की वे बातें सुनकर राजा ने अपने वस्त्रा फाढ़े।

19. It happened, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.

20. फिर राजा ने हिल्किरयाह शापान के पुत्रा अहीकाम, मीका के पुत्रा अब्दोन, शापान मंत्री और असायाह नाम अपने कर्मचारी को आज्ञा दी,

20. The king commanded Hilkiyah, and Achikam the son of Shafan, and `Avdon the son of Mikhah, and Shafan the Sofer, and `Asayah the king's servant, saying,

21. कि तुम जाकर मेरी ओर से और इस्राएल और यहूदा में रहनेवालों की ओर से इस पाई हुई पुस्तक के वचनों के विष्य यहोवा से पूछो; क्योंकि यहोवा की बड़ी ही जलजलाहट हम पर इसलिये भड़की है कि हमारे पुरखाओं ने यहोवा का वचन नहीं माना, और इस पुस्तक में लिखी हुई सब आज्ञाओं का पालन नहीं किया।

21. Go you, inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Yisra'el and in Yehudah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book.

22. तब हिल्करयाह ने राजा के और और दूतों समेत हुल्दा नबिया के पास जाकर उस से उसी बात के अनुसार बातें की, वह तो उस शल्लूम की स्त्री थी जो तोखत का पुत्रा और हस्रा का पोता और वस्त्रालय का रखवाला था : और वह स्त्री यरूशलेम के नये टोले में रहती थी।

22. So Hilkiyah, and they whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhat, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Yerushalayim in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect.

23. उस ने उन से कहा, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, कि जिस पुरूष ने तुम को मेरे पास भेजा, उस से यह कहो,

23. She said to them, Thus says the LORD, the God of Yisra'el: Tell you the man who sent you to me,

24. कि यहोवा यों कहता है, कि सुन, मैं इस स्थान और इस के निवासियों पर विपत्ति डालकर यहूदा के राजा के साम्हने जो पुस्तक पढ़ी गई, उस में जितने शाप लिखे हैं उन सभों को पूरा करूंगा।

24. Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on the inhabitants of it, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Yehudah.

25. उन लोगों ने मुझे त्यागकर पराये देवताओं के लिये धूप जलाया है और अपनी बनाई हुई सब वस्तुओं के द्वारा मुझे रिस दिलाई है, इस कारण मेरी जलजलाहट इस स्थान पर भड़क उठी है, और शान्त न होगी।

25. Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.

26. परन्तु यहूदा का राजा जिस ने तुम्हें यहोवा के पूछने को भेज दिया है उस से तुम यों कहो, कि इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है,

26. But to the king of Yehudah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you tell him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Yisra'el: As touching the words which you have heard,

27. कि इसलिये कि तू वे बातें सुनकर दीन हुआ, और परमेश्वर के साम्हने अपना सिर नवाया, और उसकी बातें सुनकर जो उसने इस स्थान और इस के निवासियों के विरूद्ध कहीं, तू ने मेरे साम्हने अपना सिर नवाया, और वस्त्रा फाड़कर मेरे साम्हने रोया है, इस कारण मैं ने तेरी सुनी है; यहोवा की यही बाणी है।

27. because your heart was tender, and you did humble yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against the inhabitants of it, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you, says the LORD.

28. सुन, मैं तुझे तेरे पुरखाओं के संग ऐसा मिलाऊंगा कि तू शांति से अपनी कब्र को पहुंचाया जायगा; और जो विपत्ति मैं इस स्थान पर, और इसके निवासियों पर डालना चाहता हूँ, उस में से तुझे अपनी आंखों से कुछ भी देखना न पड़ेगा। तब उन लोगों ने लौटकर राजा को यही सन्देश दिया।

28. Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in shalom, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on the inhabitants of it. They brought back word to the king.

29. तब राजा ने सहूदा और यरूशलेम के सब पुरनियों को इकट्ठे होने को बचलवा भेजा।

29. Then the king sent and gathered together all the Zakenim of Yehudah and Yerushalayim.

30. और राजा यहूदा के सब लोगों और यरूशलेम के सब निवासियों और याजकों और लेवियों वरन छोटे बड़े सारी प्रजा के लोगों को संग लेकर यहोवा के भवन को गया; तब उस न जो वाचा की पुस्तक यहोवा के भवन में मिली थी उस में की सारी बातें उनको पढ़कर सुनाई।

30. The king went up to the house of the LORD, and all the men of Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and the Kohanim, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

31. तब राजा ने अपने स्थान पर खड़ा होकर, यहोवा से इस आशय की वाचा बान्धी कि मैं यहोवा के पीछे पीछे चलूंगा, और अपने पूर्ण मन और पूर्ण जीव से उसकी आज्ञाएं, चितौनियों और विधियों का पालन करूंगा, और इन वाचा की बातों को जो इस पुस्तक में लिखी हैं, पूरी करूंगा।

31. The king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his mitzvot, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

32. और उस ने उन सभों से जो यरूशलेम में और बिन्यामीन में थे वैसी ही वाचा बन्धाई। और यरूशलेम के निवासी, परमेश्वर जो उनके पितरों का परमेश्वर था, उसकी वाचा के अनुसार करने लगे।

32. He caused all who were found in Yerushalayim and Binyamin to stand to it. The inhabitants of Yerushalayim did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

33. और योशिरयाह ने इस्राएलियों के सब देशों में से सब घिनौनी वस्तुओं को दूर करके जितने इस्राएल में मिले, उन सभों से उपासना कराई; अर्थात् उनके परमेश्वर सहोवा की उपासना कराई। और उसके जीवन भर उन्हों ने अपने पूवजों के परमेश्वर यहोवा के पीछे चलना न छोड़ा।

33. Yoshiyahu took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Yisra'el, and made all who were found in Yisra'el to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. All his days they didn't depart from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
