1. और भिवष्यद्वक्ताओं के चेलों में से किसी ने एलीशा से कहा, यह स्थान जिस में हम तेरे साम्हने रहते हैं, वह हमारे लिये सकेत है।

1. The sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too tight for us.

2. इसलिये हम यरदन तक जाएं, और वहां से एक एक बल्ली लेकर, यहां अपने रहने के लिये एक स्थान बना लें; उस ने कहा, अच्छा जाओ।

2. Let us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and each one take a beam from there, and let us make us a place there where we may dwell. And he answered, Go.

3. तब किसी ने कहा, अपने दासों के संग चलने को प्रसन्न हो, उस ने कहा, चलता हूँ।

3. And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4. तो वह उनके संग चला और वे यरदन के तीर पहुंचकर लकड़ी काटने लगे।

4. So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down the wood.

5. परन्तु जब एक जन बल्ली काट रहा था, तो कुल्हाड़ी बेंट से निकलकर जल में गिर गई; सो वह चिल्लाकर कहने लगा, हाय ! मेरे प्रभु, वह तो मंगनी की थी।

5. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water, and he cried and said, Alas, master! It was borrowed.

6. परमेश्वर के भक्त ने पूछा, वह कहां गिरी? जब उस ने स्थान दिखाया, तब उस ने एक लकड़ी काटकर वहां डाल दी, और वह लाहा पानी पर तैरने लगा।

6. And the man of God said, Where did it fall? And he showed him the place. Then he cut down a stick and cast it in there and caused the iron to swim.

7. उस ने कहा, उसे उठा ले, तब उस ने हाथ बढ़ाकर उसे ले लिया।

7. And he said unto him, Take it. And he put out his hand and took it.

8. ओैर अराम का जाजा इस्राएल से युठ्ठ कर रहा था, और सम्मति करके अपने कर्मचारियों से कहा, कि अमुक स्थान पर मेरी छावनी होगी।

8. Then the king of Syria warred against Israel and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place [shall be] my camp.

9. तब परमेश्वर के भक्त ने इस्राएल के राजा के पास कहला भेजा, कि चौकसी कर और अमुक स्थान से होकर न जाना क्योंकि वहां अरामी चढ़ाई करनेवाले हैं।

9. And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware to not pass through such [and such] a place, for the Syrians are going there.

10. तब इस्राएल के राजा ने उस स्थान को, जिसकी चर्चा करके परमेश्वर के भक्त ने उसे चिताया था, भेजकर, अपनी रक्षा की; और उस प्रकार एक दो बार नहीं वरन बहुत बार हुआ।

10. Then the king of Israel sent to the place, which the man of God told him and warned him of and kept himself from there, not once nor twice.

11. इस कारण अराम के राजा का मन बहुत घबरा गया; सो उस ने अपने कर्मचारियों को बुलाकर उन से पूछा, क्या तुम मुझे न बताओगे कि हम लोगों में से कौन इस्राएल के राजा की ओर का है? उसके एक कर्मचारी ने कहा, हे मेरे प्रभु ! हे राजा ! ऐसा नहीं,

11. Therefore, the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled over this thing, and he called his servants and said unto them, Will ye not show me which of us [is] for the king of Israel?

12. एलीशा जो इस्राएल में भविष्यद्वक्ता है, वह इस्राएल के राजा को वे बातें भी बताया करता है, जो तू शयन की कोठरी में बोलता है।

12. Then one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king, but Elisha, the prophet that [is] in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

13. राजा ने कहा, जाकर देखो कि वह कहां है, तब मैं भेजकर उसे पहड़वा मंगाऊंगा। और उसको यह समाचार मिला कि वह दोतान में है।

13. And he said, Go and spy where he [is], that I may send and take him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, [he is] in Dothan.

14. तब उस ने वहां घोड़ों और रथों समेत एक भारी दल भेजा, और उन्हों ने रात को आकर नगर को घेर लिया।

14. So he sent horsemen and chariots there and a great host, who came by night and compassed the city about.

15. भोर को परमेश्वर के भक्त का टहलुआ उठा और निकलकर क्या देखता है कि घोड़ों और रथों समेत एक दल नगर को घेरे हुए पड़ा है। और उसके सेवक ने उस से कहा, हाय ! मेरे स्वामी, हम क्या करें?

15. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early to go forth, behold, a host compassed the city both with horsemen and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! What shall we do?

16. उस ने कहा, मत डर; क्योंकि जो हमारी ओर हैं, वह उन से अधिक हैं, जो उनकी ओर हैं।

16. And he answered, Fear not; for those that [are] with us [are] more than those that [are] with them.

17. तब एलीशा ने यह प्रार्थना की, हे यहोवा, इसकी आंखें खोल दे कि यह देख सके। तब यहोवा ने सेवक की आंखें खोल दीं, और जब वह देख सका, तब क्या देखा, कि एलीशा के चारों ओर का पहाड़ अग्निमय घोड़ों और रथों से भरा हुआ है।

17. And Elisha prayed and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain [was] full of horsemen and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18. जब अरामी उसके पास आए, तब एलीशा ने यहोवा से प्रार्थना की कि इस दल को अन्धा कर डाल। एलीशा के इस वचन के अनुसार उस ने उन्हें अन्धा कर दिया।

18. And when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD and said, Smite these people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

19. तब एलीशा ने उन से कहा, यह तो मार्ग नहीं है, और न यह नगर है, मेरे पीछे हो लो; मैं तुम्हें उस पनुष्य के पास जिसे तुम ढूंढ़ रहे हो पहुंचाऊंगा। तब उस ने उन्हें शोमरोन को पहुंचा दिया।

19. And Elisha said unto them, This [is] not the way, neither [is] this the city; follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria.

20. जब वे शोमरोन में आ गए, तब एलीशा ने कहा, हे यहोवा, इन लोगों की आंखें खोल कि देख सकें। तब यहोवा ने उनकी आंखें खोलीं, और जब वे देखने लगे तब क्या देखा कि हम शोमरोन के मध्य में हैं।

20. And when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these [men], that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, [they were] in the midst of Samaria.

21. उनको देखकर इस्राएल के राजा ने एलीशा से कहा, हे मेरे पिता, क्या मैं इनको मार लूं? मैं उनको मार लूं?

21. And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite [them]? Shall I smite [them]?

22. उस ने उत्तर दिया, मत मार। क्या तू उनको मार दिया करता है, जिनको तू तलवार और धनुष से बन्धुआ बना लेता है? तू उनको अन्न जल दे, कि खा पीकर अपने स्वामी के पास चले जाएं।

22. And he answered, Thou shalt not smite [them]; would thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and return to their master.

23. तब उस ने उनके लिये बड़ी जेवनार की, और जब वे खा पी चुके, तब उस ने उन्हें बिदा किया, और वे अपने स्वामी के पास चले गए। इसके बाद अराम के दल इस्राएल के देश में फिर न आए।

23. And he prepared great provision for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

24. परन्तु इसके बाद अराम के राजा बेंन्हदद ने अपनी समस्त सेना इकट्ठी करके, शोमरोन पर चढ़ाई कर दी और उसको घेर लिया।

24. And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad, king of Syria, gathered all his host and went up and besieged Samaria.

25. तब शोमरोन में बड़ा अकाल पड़ा और वह ऐसा घिरा रहा, कि अन्त में एक गदहे का सिर चान्दी के अस्सी टुकड़ों में और कब की चौथाई भर कबूतर की बीट पांच टुकड़े चान्दी तक बिकने लगी।

25. And there was a great famine in Samaria as they besieged it until an ass's head was [sold] for eighty [pieces] of silver and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five [pieces] of silver.

26. और इस्राएल का राजा शहरपनाह पर टहल रहा था, कि एक स्त्री ने पुकार के उस से कहा, हे प्रभु, हे राजा, बचा।

26. And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, a woman cried unto him, saying, Save me, my lord, O king.

27. उस ने कहा, यदि यहोवा तुझे न बचाए, तो मैं कहां से तुझे बचाऊं? क्या खलिहान में से, वा दाखरस के कुण्ड में से?

27. And he said, If the LORD does not save thee, from where shall I save thee? Out of the threshingfloor, or out of the winepress?

28. फिर राजा ने उस से पूछा, तुझे क्या हुआ? उस ने उत्तर दिया, इस स्त्री ने मुझ से कहा था, मुझे अपना बेटा दे, कि हम आज उसे खा लें, फिर कल मैं अपना बेटा दूंगी, और हम उसे भी खाएंगी।

28. And the king said unto her, What ails thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.

29. तब मेरे बेटे को पकाकर हम ने खा लिया, फिर दूसरे दिन जब मैं ने इस से कहा कि अपना बेटा दे कि हम उसे खा लें, तब इस ने अपने बेटे को छिपा रखा।

29. So we boiled my son and ate him. And I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son that we may eat him. But she has hid her son.

30. उस स्त्री की ये बातें सुनते ही, राजा ने अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े ( वह तो शहरपनाह पर टहल रहा था ), जब लोगों ने देखा, तब उनको यह देख पड़ा कि वह भीतर अपनी देह पर टाट पहिने है।

30. And when the king heard the words of the woman, he rent his clothes; and he passed by [like this] upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, [he had] sackcloth within upon his flesh.

31. तब वह बोल उठा, यदि मैं शापात के वुत्रा एलीशा का सिर आज उसके घड़ पर रहने दूं, तो परमेश्वर मेरे साथ ऐसा ही वरन इस से भी अधिक करे।

31. Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha, the son of Shaphat, shall remain upon him today.

32. एलीशा अपने घर में बैठा हुआ था, और पुरनिये भी उसके संग बैठे थे। सो जब राजा ने अपने पास से एब जन भेजा, तब उस दूत के पहुंचने से पहिले उस ने पुरनियों से कहा, देखो, इस खूनी के बेटे ने किसी को मेरा सिर काटते को भेजा है; इसलिये जब वह दूत आए, तब किवाड़ बन्द करके रोके रहना। क्या उसके स्वामी के पांव की आहट उसके पीछे नहीं सुन पड़ती?

32. And Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and [the king] sent a man unto him. But before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door; [is] not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

33. वह उन से यों बातें कर ही रहा था कि दूत उसके पास आ पहुंचा। और राजा कहने लगा, यह विपत्ति यहोवा की ओर से है, अब मैं आगे को यहोवा की बाट क्यों जोहता रहूं?

33. And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him; and he said, Behold, this evil [is] of the LORD; for what should I wait for the LORD any longer?:
