1. जब योशिरयाह राज्य करने लगा, तब वह आठ वर्ष का था, और यरूशलेम में एकतीस वर्ष तक राज्य करता रहा। और उसकी माता का नाम यदीदा था जो बोस्कतवासी अदाया की बेटी थी।

1. Josiah was eight year old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Ididah the daughter of Adaiah of Bezecath.

2. उस ने वह किया, जो यहोवा की दृष्टि में ठीक है और जिस मार्ग पर उसका मूलपुरूष दाऊद चला ठीक उसी पर वह भी चला, और उस से न तो दाहिनी ओर और न बाई ओर मुड़ा।

2. And he did that seemed right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and bowed neither to the right hand nor to the left.

3. अपने राज्य के अठारहवें वर्ष में राजा योशिरयाह ने असल्याह के पुत्रा शापान मंत्री को जो मशुल्लाम का पोता था, यहोवा के भवन में यह कहकर भेजा, कि हिलकिरयाह महायाजक के पास जाकर कह,

3. And the eighteenth year of his reign king Josiah sent Saphan the son of Azaliah the son of Mesulam the scribe to the house of the LORD, saying: go to Helkiah the high priest,

4. कि जो चान्दी यहोवा के भवन में लाई गई है, और द्वारपालों ने प्रजा से इकट्ठी की है,

4. and let him sum the silver that is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the doors have gathered of the people,

5. उसको जोड़कर, उन काम करानेवालों को सौंप दे, जो यहोवा के भवन के काम पर मुखिये हैं; फिर वे उसको यहोवा के भवन में काम करनेवाले कारीगरों को दें, इसलिये कि उस में जो कुछ टूटा फूटा हो उसकी वे मरम्मत करें।

5. and let them deliver it into the hands of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of the LORD, which shall give it to them that work upon the house of the LORD, to repair the decayed places thereof,

6. अर्थात् बढ़इयों, राजों और संगतराशों को दें, और भवन की मरम्मत के लिये लकड़ी और गढ़े हुए पत्थर मोल लेने में लगाएं।

6. even unto carpenters and masons, and for to buy timber and free stone to repair the house.

7. परन्तु जिनके हाथ में वह चान्दी सौंपी गई, उन से हिसाब न लिया गया, क्योंकि वे सच्चाई से काम करते थे।

7. How be it let no reckoning be made with them of the money that is delivered into their hands, but let them do it of their conscience.

8. और हिलकिरयाह महायाजक ने शापान मंत्री से कहा, मुझे यहोवा के भवन में रयवस्था की पुस्तक मिली है; तब हिलकिरयाह ने शापान को वह पुस्तक दी, और वह उसे पढ़ने लगा।

8. And Helkiah the high priest said to Saphan the scribe: I have found the book of the law in the temple of the LORD, and Helkiah gave the book to Saphan, and he read it.

9. तब शापान मंत्री ने राजा के पास लौटकर यह सन्देश दिया, कि जो चानदी भवन में मिली, उसे तेरे कर्मचारियो ने थैलियों में डाल कर, उनको सौंप दिया जो यहोवा के भवन में काम करानेवाले हैं।

9. And then Saphan the scribe went to the king and brought him word again, and said: thy servants poured out the silver that was found in the temple, and have delivered it unto the workmen that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.

10. फिर शपान मंत्री ने राजा को यह भी बता दिया, कि हिलकिरयाह याजक ने उसे एक पुस्तक दी है। तब शपान उसे राजा को पढ़कर सुनाने लगा।

10. Furthermore Saphan the scribe shewed the king saying: Helkiah the priest hath delivered me here a book. And Saphan read it before the king.

11. रयवस्था की उस पुस्तक की बातें सुनकर राजा ने अपने वस्त्रा फाड़े।

11. And the king as soon as he had heard the words of the book of the law, he rent his clothes

12. फिर उस ने हिलकिरयाह याजक, शापान के पुत्रा अहीकाम, मीकायाह के पुत्रा अकबोर, शापान मंत्री और असाया ताम अपने एक कर्मचारी को आज्ञा दी,

12. and commanded Helkiah the priest and Ahikam the son of Saphan and Achobor the son of Michaiah, and Saphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying:

13. कि यह पुस्तक जो मिली है, उसकी बातों के विष्य तुम जाकर मेरी ओर प्रजा की और सब सहूदियों की ओर से यहोवा से पूछो, क्योंकि यहोवा की बड़ी ही जलजलाहट हम पर इस कारण भड़की है, कि हमारे पुरखाओं ने इस पुस्तक की बातें न मानी कि कुछ हमारे लिये लिखा है, उसके अनुसार करते।

13. go ye and seek of the LORD for me and the people and for all Juda, concerning the words of this book that is found. For it is a great wrath of the LORD that is kindled upon us, that our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do in all points as it is written therein.

14. हिलकिरयाह याजक और अहीकाम, अकबोर, शापान और असाया ने हुल्दा नबिया के पास जाकर उस से बातें की, वह उस शल्लूम की पत्नी थी जो तिकवा का पुत्रा और हर्हस का पोता और वस्त्रों का रखवाला था, ( और वह स्त्री यरूशलेम के नये टोले में रहती थी ) ।

14. And Helkiah the high priest and Ahikam, Achobor, Saphan, Asahiah went unto Oldah the Prophetess wife of Selum the son of Tekuah the son of Haraham keeper of the robes, which Prophetess dwelt in Jerusalem in the second ward, and communed with her.

15. उस ने उन से कहा, इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा यों कहता है, कि जिस पुरूष ने तुम को मेरे पास भेजा, उस से यह कहो,

15. And she said to them: thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel. Tell the man that sent you to me:

16. यहोवा यों कहता है, कि सुन, जिस पुस्तक को यहूदा के राजा ने पढ़ा है, उसकी सब बातों के अनुसार मैं इस स्थान और इसके निवासियों पर विपत्ति डाला चाहता हूँ।ं

16. thus sayeth the LORD: behold I will bring evil upon this place and on the dwellers therein: even all the words of the book which the king of Juda hath read,

17. उन लोगों ने मुझे त्याग कर पराये देवताओं के लिये धूप जलाया और अपनी बनाई हुई सब वस्तुओं के द्वारा मुझे क्रोध दिलाया है, इस कारण मेरी जलजलाहट इस स्थान पर भड़केगी और फिर शांत न होगी।

17. because they have forsaken me and have brent offerings unto other gods, to anger me with all the works of their hands. Therefore is my wrath kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.

18. परन्तु यहूदा का राजा जिस ने तुम्हें यहोवा से पूछने को भेजा है उस से तुम यों कहो, कि इस्राएल का परमेश्वर यहोवा कहता है।

18. But to the king of Juda which sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say: thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel, as touching the words which thou heardest.

19. इसलिये कि तू वे बातें सुनकर दीन हुआ, और मेरी वे बातें सुनकर कि इस स्थान और इसके निवासियों को देखकर लोग चकित होंगे, और शप दिया करेंगे, तू ने यहोवा के साम्हने अपना सिर नवाया, और अपने वस्त्रा फाड़कर मेरे साम्हने रोया है, इस कारण मैं ने तेरी सुनी है, यहोवा की यही वाणी है।

19. Because thine heart did melt and thou meekedest thyself before me the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place and the inhabiters of the same, how that it should be destroyed and made accursed: and tearest thy clothes and weepest before me: of that also I have heard sayeth the LORD.

20. इसलिये देख, मैं ऐसा करूंगा, कि तू अपने पुरखाओं के संग मिल जाएगा, और तू शांति से अपनी कबर को पहुंचाया जाएगा, और जो विपत्ति मैं इस स्थान पर डाला चाहता हूँ, उस में से तुझे अपनी ओखों से कुछ भी देखना न पड़ेगा। तब उन्हों ने लौटकर राजा को यही सन्देश दिया।

20. And therefore see, I will receive ye unto thy fathers and will fetch thee unto thy grave in peace, thine eyes shall see none of the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
